We're going to be hearing about this for the next few weeks:
Dressed in a black suit, tie, and blue shirt, former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge on Thursday spun around in his chair and seemed to struggle a bit as he stood up.
"Morning, ladies and gentlemen," said the man who for decades has been accused of torturing murder suspects.
- While Burge and his underlings have long been accused of torturing suspects into giving confessions, he is not on trial for those actual acts. Burge is accused of lying on a sworn questionnaire that probed him of the alleged practices.

Thanks to the statute of limitations, you beat the more serious cases they "put" on you.
And while certainly not a walk in the park, this trial will ultimately prove you innocent.

Has Flint Taylor paid individuals to publicly demonstrate relating to claims of misconduct at area 2/3?
Did Flint Taylor admit, when asked under oath, that he only accepts a police misconduct case after he conducts a cost benefit analysis and determines that he can make a profit from the allegation?
Is it possible that the so-called victims are looking for "get out of jail" cards or "jackpot justice" awards. Have they committed perjury and have they been coached by anyone?
Will the Federal government prosecute any of Taylor's clients for perjury when it is determined that they have lied in their claims?
Will Aaron Patterson, Madison Hobley or the other individuals who received multi-million dollar settlements from the City testify in the coming trial? Why not?
The media needs to look closely at what Taylor is up too?

Not gonna happen. This effort against Jon Burge and CPD in general is a Coalition of the Cadillac Commies. Medill is part of it, as well as the Norhwestern & U of C academics.

Burge is not being tried for Violation of Civil Rights, or Torture of Suspects but for false statements and perjury.

I'm an Irish Police Officer and I
don't like the Irish U.S. Attorney, I think he is a phoney, and I don't like what happened to Cozzi, and I don't like the Irish Mayor. I know Burg is being railroaded, So will this neutralize the Irish part?
I read the Sun Times story today and I find it difficult to believe that Mikie McDermott did or saw anything inappropriate. Mike is a great guy and a wonderful detective.
I went to yahoo.com today and was able to locate all of the motions filed in this case by entering united states vs. jon burge. A website called chicagojustice.org lists them, interesting reading.

From what I heard, unconfirmed, the Feds got something on McDermott and put the screws to him until they finally gave him immunity to testify against Burge, for making an untrue statement to the feds, not anything to do with torture but perjury in 2003.
As for why FOP is paying the freight for his defense, the FOP board made that decision. They said that Burge was an FOP member when he was in that D unit and voted to pay the bill.
Like it or not, that was the decision of the FOP Board of directors.
