One Night in 006
- We've been to Baghdad and Bosnia, in hurricanes and earthquakes, at riots and at Ground Zero. But how the I-Team could safely report on one night in Chicago prompted just as serious discussions in our newsroom. And with good reason. Just as we were arriving in the Gresham police district, 10 miles due south of Chicago's Loop, before we even reached for the cameras, five shots were fired across the street from us and where detectives were making a drug arrest.
Detectives making drug arrests? Whoa.
- One hundred and twenty four people have been killed so far in 2010 - one per day - nearly the number of Americans killed during the same period in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. So this one night in Chicago, in the small swath of urbanity where almost all the victims have died, we stayed to find out what it's like on the firing line and when the gun smoke clears; for an elderly man limping down the street at midnight; the neighbor on the phone at 2 a.m.; the people in the laundromat at all hours.
Are we misunderstanding this? Most homicides are occurring in 006? Or most of the people shot in 006 die?
Goudie points out something we've been saying for a few years now:
Goudie points out something we've been saying for a few years now:
- The police data reveals one statistic has changed. In 1991, Chicago police solved 67 percent of all murder cases, most with an arrest and prosecution. That clearance rate has plummeted. In 2008, the last year sampled, only one of every three murders in the city was solved.
And Chuck throws a bone to the police:
- At the Laundromat, Laura who declined to give her last name, told me she would like to see Illinois National Guard soldiers on the streets of her community. She said Mayor Daley should set aside pride and politics and remind gangs who actually owns the streets. She stopped short of suggesting that the mayor himself spend one night in her neighborhood. But if Mr. Daley did, he would see that police seem to be doing all they can with what they have.
And what we have isn't much.
Chuck ought to spend a night following the police around from call to call to call in addition to the "shots fired" jobs that seem to be the focus of his piece. If he did, he might see why Shortshanks and J-Fled have killed proactive policing in a matter of two years and endangered the lives of tens of thousands.

He should follow the police from call to call to call to see the baby mama drama. Or the "can't get junior to do homework so I'll call the police" calls. Or the "Well I have an order of protection against him/her but I let him/her back into the house because....." calls.
Re: detectives making drug arrests. It's pretty common in civilian circles to believe those guys in jeans and black vests and hoodies are 'detectives'. Can't tell you how many times I've heard friends and relatives call tactical teams (I spelled it out for you media guys) 'detectives'. Who knows why, but they do.
FYI, media, detectives are the folks in business attire, who arrive after the crime has occurred and after the uniforms have done the initial contact with victims, offenders and witnesses.
and he mentioned that most homicides rarely occur with "assault" type rifles
006 is leading the city in homicides, which is nothing new. It always is in the top five in homicides, and it always has one or two beats that lead the city in homicides.
People underestimate how bad that district is. I used to work there and I got out. That zone never stopped. Its worst than 007 and 011.
Fuck Chuck Goudie and the I-Team.
The people have spoken loud and clear, and the Democrats shepherding them have reiterated their wishes through the decimation of the once-proud CPD.
No more proactive policing by anyone but a handful of Hair Gels that have yet to see the big picture because they're stupid, they don't bother to read a paper and/or listen to the advice of tenured officers.
As stated before: the good people of Chicago will be left to fend for themselves because they were indirect co-conspirators when they bought into the liberal Democratic ideals that the police are evil for handling business the way it's SUPPOSED to be handled.
You are reaping what you've sown, liberal America.
I'll be the cop with the smirk on my face while I'm cutting you the report for the burglary to your house, your carjacking, your robbery after being hit in the head with a bat and left for dead.
You got the CPD you wanted, Chicago. Enjoy!
GOD help us and GOD help the CPD
May you always catch the bad guy and NEVER get hurt in doing so...
Thank You for SPEAKING the TRUTH..
you reap what you sow. the media killed proactive policing with their "police are the bad guys. here's a video of them using bad language or slapping a 6 time convicted felon"
How ironic you made this a post, because two hours ago I asked this question. We had over 900 murders in the early 90s,so what was the clearance rate back then? And please dont blame john burge.
Now we have 400 murders, and we all know our clearance rate now. Approximately 30 percent.
Go figure.
Oh, it must have been because back in the day we told the bad guys to "knock it off."
Your comment on detectives making drugs arrest intrigued me. It is true. All units, per dugan mind you, must focus on violent crimes. His unspoken definition of violent crime is dope and guns. Doesnt' matter what unit you are in, doesn't matter what our unit was designed to focus on, doesn't matter about manpower. Just like the "motivational" email that Weis wrote. Figure it out, make it happen, search warrants galore, arrests galore, no probable cause necessary - OR ELSE BYE BYE.
Smarten the FK up. Dont do it. Stand tall with integrity. Dont let the users use you.
Hey Goudie...
Show the people the numbers...
How many hired...
How many retired...
How many are left...
Jody Weis is a hatchet man, cost cutter who is here to slash the budget so Shorty can spend the money on stuff he wants. And if people die, it's the guns fault, not ages of gimme what's mine politics. Daley and Jody's cost cutting ax has gotten people and cops killed. Taxpayers are still paying for a 13,550 man force, but we are far short of that.
Where's the money?
Tough neighborhood.
Well it was refreshing to see Chuck Goudie 'on the network the mouse bought' reporting that that in 2008, 77 percent of all city murders were committed with handguns that are already banned.
But I couldn't see if Chuck had his yellow Breitling Emergency watch on that he wore when reporting from Katrina ravaged Louisiana just in case he was kidnapped off the streets by some of those upstanding honor students that didn't want their faces on T.V., yet.
Proactive policing died way before J-Fed! We have absolutely no powers, cameras everywhere ready to catch us being physical in any way, bullshit lawsuits for everything we do, and this liberal city who hates the police and wants to save the world from us! Oh and did I mention the morons of COP-WATCH!
We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
--Mother Teresa
No SCC, you didn't misunderstand anything, 006 is leading the city in murders, so yes, most of the homicides are occurring in 006.
To West Side, Inside Do-Nothing; Sometimes I agree with you, sometimes I don't. As for today, touch 'em all cause you knocked it out of the park. It's just a shame that this town is so chock full of goofs that will continue to vote in mutts like Daley, Gutierrez, and the alderrats. This city is beyond hope.
But still, nothing about WHO is causing the mayhem in these areas.
Let's not forget the role the courts have played in shutting down pro-active policing. It's easy in a calm quiet courtroom to say "Awwww, that nice young fellow calling out to passing cars at midnight on a block where hundreds of drug arrests have taken place . . . it's clear he was only being friendly. Let's give him $50,000."

And you felt it was important to mention this? Why don't you ask your friends and relatives why they call them " detectives"? You must not get out on the street much, much less know what a detective looks like or what his duty or assignment may be. So go back to being a house mouse and watching detective shows on tv. Maybe someday you'll hit the streets and get a clue "DETECTIVE".
I was at Jewel the other day standing by the cash register to check out. Trying to be a good samaritan and ready to help out this PREGNANT WOMAN who couldn't pay for her groceries, but, as soon as I heard the cashier told his manager " please void check, she forgot her LINK CARD" I quickly bit my lip and told myself " Fuck her, she's the reason the CPD doesn't have a contract right now". Pregnant and she's receiving a LINK CARD?? What the fuck is wrong with this picture??
Middle/Upper class blacks in 006 are getting fed up. Lower class blacks in 007 are also fed up, but are either too poor or turn a blind eye, since they know who is doing the dirt.
ot 2 f/w robbed at 104 & talman a week ago by a m/1
offender fled on foot
we need some more police in west beverly and mt greenwood
buy your wife or girlfriend a 22
it may save them from a rape or robbery from these cowards
Could the lower homicide clearance rate have anything to do with the massive restrictions that have been put in place on police regarding the interrogation of suspects and witnesses?
Could it have anything to do with the bogus judgements against police officers and detectives by jurors who live in or near the city?
Could it be that the people of this city are finally getting what they asked for?
If he did, he might see why Shortshanks and J-Fled have killed proactive policing in a matter of two years and endangered the lives of tens of thousands.
The death of proactive policing started way before J-Fled.
If we get a 30 percent homicide clearance rate this year, it will be the same equivalent probability as as a Chicago Cub batting .400 for the season.
Truth is, the clearance rate is probably less than 25 percent, and that is even couunting the salm dunks such as the old guy who killed his two sons and himself. That one was two for two, and would cover seven uncleared homocides for a rate of .222, which is acceptable in most Areas.
proactive police work was done for me long before mr. possum head came to town... his being here just has exacerbated the problem... if you get out of the car and put your hands on people you better do it by the numbers... the one who will screw you the hardest is none other than your employer, the chicago police department---- ask anyone who has been in some form of trouble on this job and they will tell you 100 percent that the disciplinary arm of this department fucked them over more than anyone else ever could...
maybe chuck could go do a lunch run with the two bobbsey twins for the bosses and then leave early just like them
Go Gresham! The 006th District is fucked up as always. Homicides, shootings, rapes and everything else in between. It was always fun driving to work and trying to avoid the bullets before I started the graveyard shift. Handling those homicides 99 was interesting.
On the hot weekends, 7 out of 9 cars working 99 on 1st watch. It's only going to get more interesting with the manpower shortage and the fucked up contract Shortshanks shoved up the coppers asses. Be thankful you got a job idiots say. Fuckyou!
Daley Inc. media spin machine fuckery!
We agree SCC, it must be sweeps week.
We'll go out on a limb and address the big-ass fuckin' elephant in the room.
A news flash if you will, for the media, 42 extra-short, j-fled, the exempts, the alderfools, the running-dog rev'runs and their congregants & sympathizers...
Guess what, you morons?
You fools are so fixated on silencing and destroying CPD that you've fucked it it beyond salvaging.
Policemen in general just DO NOT GIVE A FUCK ANYMORE!
J-fled & duggie can kill every fuckin' tree in this country to print up bullshit, nonsensical, contradictory and flat out unethical and ILLEGAL directives and conjure up horseshit units to pull manpower from Patrol ("Where Excellence Is On Display 24 Hours A Day") in order to present the illusion that Police are everywhere and there is no manpower shortage!
The average blue-shirt doesn't give a fuck anymore!
J-fled can speech-ify, bluster and bullshit about "we got your back when you're right." FUCK THAT NOISE!
Policing is bloody, chaotic, messy and UNPREDICTABLE! We don't need anyone to have our backs when we're right. Support would be nice when a copper rolls the dice on a 50/50 with shit in one hand and a smoking pistol in the other in hope of surviving/making the best of a bad situation while worrying about j-fled siccing the feebs on you for hurting someone's feelings.
Oh well. Policemen have no rights that anyone of note is bound to honor or respect. First responders have been reduced to second class citizens and indentured servitude in this town.
It has been all about enduring this current climate of "Blame the Police for everything," keeping each other safe and trying to keep a watchful eye on where most of us live.
Who gives a fuck about US but US?
Apparently nobody.
Just read the comments of pravda uhhh, scum times & fibune whenever there's a story involving the Police.
Criminals are tearing this city apart but "fuck the police and their overtime, sweet pensions and early retirement," etc.
These fools in charge have been reduced to the equivalent of monkeys at the zoo. Not an original thought among them (other than picking a Policeman's pockets) on how to fix this colossal failure of j-fleds tenure other than flinging shit against the wall of assorted fucked up ideas to run with whatever sticks.
How's that Morale Survey lads? Is it suppressed because coppers don't give a fuck anymore?
Afraid of the truth being revealed to the FEW citizens who know that as the Police Department goes, their freedom from fear and crime goes?
Those citizens SHOULD BE DEATHLY AFRAID and CONCERNED!
The mouth-breathers and resolute non-contributors dance with joy because they've increased to a number to be of more value to shortshanks and the alderfools than those who do the actual working and tax paying. All hail to the "Catered to Constituency!" You tax payers shut up that noise and keep the money coming. Shorty has only stolen between $12 Billion and $15 Billion since he's been in office. (and those figures are conservative to say the least)
42 extra-short is playing chicken with EVERYONE'S safety. The only one in Chicago that's truly safe IS the miserable stuttering prick!
Everyone else is on their own and of course it's all the Policeman's fault.
Fuck It.
It'll all come out in the end that Chicago has elected and kept re-elected a raging psychopath as mayor...
They forget to mention that most of the "shots fired", "person with a gun", "kidnapping in progress", "criminal sexual assault in progress" are B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T and thus end up wasting a lot of our time.
The ghetto rats don't like to wait for police service and thus always say "he got a gun". And what do we as police do? Well we go lights and siren full speed ahead. In other words, we are enabling their bad behavior.
And you felt it was important to mention this? Why don't you ask your friends and relatives why they call them " detectives"? You must not get out on the street much, much less know what a detective looks like or what his duty or assignment may be. So go back to being a house mouse and watching detective shows on tv. Angry much? Now, take a deep breath. Go back and read the original post. SCC quotes (in the first paragraph) "across the street from us where detectives were making a drug arrest".
Now, re-read the comment you're all bent out of shape over. Perhaps your brain can now associate the two things in a rational manner.
2% is as 2% does.
At least old man Chuckie didn't get pelted with eggs, as our Glorious Leader J-Feld did in a recent visit to the Gresham.
Hey Chuck you dumbass some of that file footage you bull shit I team was from 013 district. The double murder suicide to be exact.
Still NO KILLING IN NORWOOD PARK!
Laura needs to stop letting the GDs hide their pistols in the laundromat & her nephews from hiding in her apartment cuz the po-po is lookn for them. A community highly tolerant of aberrant behavior & criminal mischief. These plighted neighborhoods didnt appear overnight...

Yeah really, what the hell was that guy talking about?
Anyway, I don't know why people think guys wearing street clothes are "detectives." Growing up we always called them narcs.
Time to launch the 6 district Commander?
What're you waiting for J-Fled?
A song dedicated to the WLS I-Team
(to the tune of the 80s hit song "One Night in Bangkok")
Gresham, a Midwestern setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the ghetto in a
Show with everything but Rev. Phleger
Time flies -- doesn't seem a minute
Since the lock-up had the home boys in it
All change -- don't you know that when you
Bang at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Oakland -- or the Motor City -- or Brooklyn -- or --
or this place!
One night in Gresham and Chuck Goudie’s squirmin’
Store fronts are churches once you get inside
You'll find a pimp providing every sermon
And if you're lucky then the gunshots are wide
There just aint nothing like Chicago’s south side
Well shortshanks.....I think it's time to throw in the towel. Bring in the US Military already. I think you are fresh out of band-aids.

Not gonna happen you squirming, hate filled wanna be cop.
That DC is a great boss, doing a great job, and most of his numbers look good, the community and most of his officers love him, and the only place he's going is up.
You sound like a John Doty fan. Go join him and meritorious Milt at the U of C PD, where he's suspending, firing , and demoting everyone. Everybody hates him, with good reason.
Hey Chuck you dumb fuck you included 003, 007 and 004 in your broadcast and painted these districts like they're all 006.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Easy on any "praise" for Chuckie.. He is his own best friend and only likes the police when he can use us to his advantage.
fucking media is as soft as my puppy's shit. everyone knows that
speaking of the Link card...was at the one grocery store in Englewood and a woman who was telling me about her kids was purchasing a pregnancy test WITH THE LINK CARD!!!!!!!
SPEND A NIGHT IN 007 MEDIA!!! FYI....GRESHAM DOES NOT RUN FROM 63-85, DAN RYAN TO WESTERN.....THATS MOSTLY 007...THE WORST DISTRICT IN THE WHOLE CITY
Still NO KILLING IN NORWOOD PARK!
This is the homeland I walk out at any time of the night or day, the streets are clean my neighbors say hello. Someone is always working on cleaning the front of the house.
Keep up the good work 16th dist.
To hell with what the Jello police say keep the homeland safe.
