Excuse Me While I Resign
Must be nice to leave under a cloud and collect $100,000 a year:
- Chicago Fire Commissioner John Brooks has informed officials that he is retiring, months after the city began looking into allegations that a sexual harassment complaint against him was swept under the rug.
Brooks contacted the Fire Department's pension board this morning and told officials he is retiring, according to mayoral spokesman Jacquelyn Heard. "That's how we found out about it," she said. The investigation will continue into how the sexual harrassment complaint was handled by the city's then-Office of Compliance chief, Anthony Boswell, Heard said.
There sure seems to be a lot of that 1950's/1960's treat underlings as objects in the different bureaus. Didn't Shortshanks just hide someone in the Police Department with a history of harassment beefs? But he's connected, so no one asks questions about him.

How recently was this? Can he still resign with full benefits while under investigation, or is that part of the "deal"; he gets his money as long as he goes away...perhaps to turn up again in some other city job?

Brooks is a Goof!! My Father worked with him of the fire dept...Its not news to anyone, but this guy was in way over his head anyway...

The Mayor and the WEISel didn't just go and HIDE someone in the CPD with a history of harassment beefs...they promoted him to CHIEF of OCD last year!!

Can't fault the guy for resigning. I was wondering why it took him so long. Daley dropped his support for the guy almost immediately after this thing hit the press. Although I'll state here that the investigation
probably won't reveal any obvious wrongdoing, Brooks should have bailed before now. It's doubtful to believe he'll get the full Commish pension, as he didn't hold the job down for any serious length of time.

At least he doesn't get a gold braid pension. The best he can do is retire at B/C pay.
Now if he was a just a no clout guy on the CPD, personnel and IAD wouldn't give him his retirement id and star. But being a clout heavy product of affirmative action the CFD will probably give him a city hall party, all his retirement perks and a higher paying job.
Hope this rest of his do nothing, dumb as a box of rocks minions follow him out the door!

He only had the top job for two years, which means he misses out on the big pension, but the reasons he is in trouble are the same reasons he did not leave sooner, and they are arrogance and stupidity. If you doubt he is arrogant and stupid, explain away his thinking he is handsome.

He has been the Commissioner for 2 yrs and before that the 1st Dep Com. so his pension will come out to be over $120,000 a yr for the time on the job. Just because he did some stupid stuff won't justify them taking his money. He didn't commit a felony.

whoever the new commish is wont be doing anything without the approval of shortshanks so I wouldnt get your hopes up to much about any house cleaning

Is that for sure? He was a district chief before commisioner and not sure if he was a deputy district chief before that. But as long as he has four years as an exempt rank he gets some form of gold braid pension

When did the fire dept get the gold braid Up until a few years ago, the CFD did not have the gold braid bill and if that is still true, he would only get the career service pension and if they have the gold braid he would get it because he had a higher rank than capt for 4 years
Tiger Brooks had another woman come forward. A proctor from the last Lt. exam walked into Chinatown to give a statement, a couple of months ago. A buddy of mine was there when it happened. Funny how it never made the news. At any rate, Hoff won't be chief and even if he were, he'll clean nothing. You don't get the job if you don't tow the line.

Are you forgetting where you are? CHICAGO There will be no house cleaning here, just shit swept under the rug. And no one will be named fire commish without the proper political pedigree. Two Lambert Tree awards look nice in a parade but a family tie to the daley's will make it happen. They don't make heros bosses here.
It all depends on how fast you answer the mayor's phone calls and how sincere you sound when stammering out "Yeah boss, sure thing boss, anything you say boss."
Another phony bites the dust! City Hall is full of phony, do nothing, lazy "playas!" Brooksy will walk away and return to another job somewhere in the giant website for the city, county or state! Anyone ever try to look up people in the giant "abyss" of the "Gov rank" site of thousands of job positions that people are hiding in? It is truly amazing! The job titles alone would infuriate most of you! But so would how much they are paying them! Lots of familar last names too!

Brass bill as its called in the CFD
Needs 4 years for commissioner pension. Needs to be born before 1955 for brass bill pension. (what cpd calls gold braid) Otherwise he retires at Battalion Chief rate.
Sorry to say that I don't usually like working for guys born in the 1950's and 1960's. For the most part, but not always, they see women as inferior and beneath them.
I've got two brother sparky's of the ancient order getting ready to retire and I say good riddance to both. One was a skirt chaser, the other a hard nosed jerk. Either way being a woman and working for them was miserable.
He WILL get the full Commissioner pension. Brass bill born before date and time in grade does not apply to the Commissioner rank. It only applies to DDC thru 1st Deputy.
I heard of something called the "Quinn Bill" alledgedly states a Fire Commissioner has to work only 1 day, thats right, 1 day in office and he entitled to the full pension -- not like the current bill we have where you have to be 2 or 4 years at the current rank to get the money....If this is true...just another way we are getting "rammed"
