Craig Lancaster wanted to prove that Chicago Police officers are treated the same as others when they break the law, Cook County prosecutors said.
So in a drunken argument with a friend last summer, prosecutors said, the 41-year-old veteran officer shot a gun in the air outside an Ashburn bowling alley where he also worked security -- and waited.
Within minutes, Lancaster appeared to have won the debate when officers arrived on the scene and arrested him. He was charged with two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm.
Earlier this week, Christian Sanchez, a former Bluebird Lanes receptionist, testified how he and Lancaster started discussing "how different police officers and civilians are treated in an unlawful situation" in the early morning hours on June 13, 2009.
The bowling alley was closed for the night when both men started drinking beer, Sanchez said. After arguing for five minutes, Sanchez said he followed Lancaster in an alley and saw the officer fire his weapon before the gun jammed.
Lancaster unjammed the gun and both men went inside, Sanchez said. Soon, officers arrived. Sanchez also was arrested for possession of cannabis.
This is about the stupidest story we've heard in a long time that didn't involve someone losing a limb in a traffic stunt.

Hopefully he is or will be an x-police officer. Too bad the act wasn't on video, so it could be replayed over over again on tv.
I used to work with Craig back when he was a civilian lockup keeper in 024. He got into a mess with J.L. (since fired for having a stolen MC), involving a shooting. He's also been involved in several other incidents involving guns after becoming a P.O.
Unlike G.C., he's the nicest guy in the world...sober. Give him a few drinks and the beer muscles and stupidity comes out.
Unless this incident has scared some sense into him, he's gonna become the M/1 version of G.C.
If this is the kid who was a civilian lock-up keeper in 024 years ago he was a nice kid.Some people ,maybe shouldn't drink?

Lancaster has a past of doing stupid things. When he was a civilian police aide in 024, he used to hang out with a long since fired PO who was a complete goof, and as it was proven later, also an auto thief.
On night in a drunken stupor about 10 or 12 years ago, the pair were hanging out at Granville and Winthrop and claimed that someone attempted to rob them. No one remembered seeing anything other than the ODPO shooting his gun down the block in all directions. The result was the PO ended up shooting several parked cars. That was the beginning of the end of a short police career for PO John Langston, but Craig Lancaster skated and eventually came on the job.

And why not; he was hired while stupid. Part of the hiring process ought to include an applicant getting drunk and observing how they behave. Do they run for the pistol and begin shooting in all directions? Better reject that one.
Do they jump in their SUV and tear off at 60mph? Uh, that's a no go also.
Do they go looking for a crack whore and want to act all lovey dovey with Sharethra? Not that one either.

Yes he is...
I heard she was actually the paper car for one of his "incidents" in 018, but didn't know he was involved until witnesses gave her the plate and she ran it. Ouch!

First off, it's Callahan. Secondly, while Craig hasn't hurt anybody yet, all of his incidents have involved a gun. Those bullets have to land someplace. Do you really want it to be in your ass or worse yet, in one of your loved ones?!

Actually, every time he messed up he WAS arrested. Yep, the Beat copper did his job. So did the line supervisor. Who put him back out? The politicians who pull the strings.
Watch for a public firing and a quiet rehiring by THE POLICE BOARD. The Board should be looked at with a magnifying glass. Incompetent or corrupt...they are one or another.
Every copper that has given us a black eye in the last decade has been before the Police Board and been reinstated. Look to them to keep doing the same.

God knows she has suffered enough having this self-destructive fool for a husband, and her reputation isn't tainted. Friends of hers have been urging her to get rid of this constant attorney drain of a husband for years now, to no avail. Maybe she'll wake up one day and see that he's doing nothing but dragging the whole family down, and she'll move on to greener pastures, but she is in no way responsible for Craig's constant foolishness. And Craig, if you're reading this, shame on you for not GROWING UP.
Thank you. Yes leave his wife out of this. She is a great person. She is doing what most would do sticking by her spouse. Yes Craig has a problem and he is getting help. He is a good copper. He is not the enemy keep the focus people. The enemy is Mike Masters and the policy group. No his wife was not the paper car on his incident in 018. If you are going to talk get your fact straight.
