Contract Up for Vote
The contract passed out of committee Tuesday. It goes to the full City Council tomorrow:
The City Council is poised to approve a new Chicago Police Department contract granting officers 2 percent average yearly raises after a committee recommended its passage without dissent today.
Police officers also will be subject to random alcohol testing starting in 2012 and have to submit to drug and alcohol tests if they fire their weapons on or off duty under the pact the council's Police and Finance committees recommended.
Fraternal Order of Police President Mark Donahue said today his members remain frustrated that an arbitrator didn't award them larger salary increases, but said he thinks they see it as fair given the weak economy.
We're pretty sure most coppers just wanted either what the teachers got (4%) or what the aldercreatures got (6%) or what the aldercreatures staff got (5%). It didn't happen.

I for one will no longer be doing any off duty police work. Why put my life on the line for off duty work, when this is how they treat us. They are opening us up for an extra civil suit if we are drinking.

Funny they never took this stance when they visited the roll calls. I don't recall hearing any P.O. say "they thought it was fair".

When it passes today, richie still has to sign it. If he signs it, the raise will be on the 16 June check. In the event that he doesn't, it takes effect in 30 days which means the raise will be on the 16 July check. Retro around 14-15 August no matter what happens.
Dont count on him signing it either.
If I get crumbs the city gets crumbs in return.
Negotiations for a new contract should begin immediately. The contract should be in place on the date which the current contract expires. Failure by the city to cooperate should result in marches around city hall, lawsuits, endorsements of new candidates, etc. After this last fiasco, we have nothing to lose by trying any of this.

I wanted the raise Hubberman gave himself, 17%, or the raise that idiot Monique Bonds got, 21%. Both well respected members in their feilds.......by Mayor Daley and no one else.

About the alcohol thing...
Let's say you're off duty and go to dinner with the spouse and have a glass of wine. After you exit the restaurant, Pookie approaches you in the parking lot with gun in hand and demands your wallet, threatening to kill you.
Okay, so now you have a choice...
Produce your weapon, announce your office and shoot Pookie in self defense and get sued by Pookie's family because of this stupid policy... OR... you and the spouse can just take a bullet or two because of the FEAR of the impending lawsuit (from Pookie's family) that will result in losing your house and going to prison if you decide to defend yourself after having a glass of wine. If you decide not to up your pistola, I guarantee that Pookie's gonna shoot you once he observes the police star sticking out of your wallet.

People have frequently told me that I'm delusional: That I do exaggerate, embellish and even hallucinate. I've even been accused of being a legend in my own mind!
So, I wasn't surprised when I thought (hallucinated) that the City Council (our aldercreatures) might step-up and scratch the arbitrator's ruling and give us the 16% Daley initially offered.
Well, boys and girls, that's why they call me the "Defective Detective."
I was shocked to hear Donahue express his opinion that he believed the arbitrator's award was FAIR!
Donahue is more delusional than I.
Just wait until the next contract!
We must sound and express our opinions at the next F.O.P. elections!!
Just be happy it's a raise, not a pay cut. People in the real world are getting cut and pay reductions.
The Mayor has shown us how much he values our NEW city-hall managed PD.

Ill agree on everyone with the exception of Angel; Angel was shot an seriously wounded on this job in 2005, yes he was made merit by Cline, but to me that's what merit should be about, and for those that don't know Angel, he is one of the hardest working coppers i've ever worked along side, always going the extra mile, he is an asset to this department as a Sgt but that should be it for merit promotions for him; Now for the others, I like Bobnby Lopez alot, he has been shown to be a good leader, well respected on this job, but yes he has been merit his entire career, when he was dumped he should have stayed dumped, when you are exempt you serve at the whim of the Supe and can be dimissed at any time, I lost respect for him after that incident, whether deserved or not, they are plenty of bosses who were dumped for no cause and returned to civil service rank or retired, they didn't cry to clout etc. ( except Ernie Brown)(thats another blog) Morado, was also shot on this job and merit everything ever since, he deserved one merit, that I believe is most deserved, the rest is ridiculous, he also forgot where he came from, how NOT legit he was his entire career until becoming a Lt. then amazingly everything is legit,anyone that worked with him knows exactly what i'm talking about, Simpson's comes to mind huh? he also became quite Hispanic as he rose through the ranks, everything was now racial and he became thoroughly entrenched in LAPA, seems that has finally backfired on him. I can't comment on the rest since I don't know them, this also isn't a anti-Hispanic rant, i know plenty of white and black coppers who have been merit their entire careers as well, i'm just tired of the merit nonsense and the politics in this department; Merit should be for people like Angel and Juan, who are shot, stabbed etc. or have done somthing extrordinary and then you get one promotion, that's it, earn the rest. Maybe I would be happy with it if the teachers didn't get a bigger raise, the do nothing aldermen didn't get a bigger raise, Daley didn't give himself a raise every year, Maggie didn't get paid over $100,000 for after school matters bullshit, Daleys family didn't get bullshit contract deals, Daleys son and nephew didn't fuck with our pension money, Jody didn't get $330,000 a fucking year.

My wife is a teacher and they did a survey and 70% voted not to take the 4% raise. They are doing this to save jobs and to keep class sizes at a managable level. They can't strike because they are within their contract. They are a union. We are a faternity, or joke.
I got thrown out of FOP because I knew something was fishy there. Now you guys know I was right.
Demand that I get my membership back along with my FOP book and stickers.
Now 11 dick's are getting detailed out to areas from my unit, B and A.
No freat here becuse I can handle the load and make arrests on the 2nd. watch.I just wish Roland was still around me as my driver. CPS now has Roland running the security like it should be.

2. is it really a good idea to begin negotiations 'immediately', given the nature of the current individuals on both sides of the table?
3. wouldn't it be better to work to change the faces of those on both sides of the table before entering into negotiations on the next contract?

I asked the bank for a loan modification and they told me to I had to miss 3 payments before they could help.
I did. They then REFUSED to modify my loan, and told me that would foreclose if I did not pay them 3 months mortgage (12K).
I then realized that with the cash I had saved in part due to not paying my mortgage, I could buy a home outright.
And I did.
Ladies and gents, DO NOT give the banks rivers of cash on a home that is not worth 50% of it's former value.
DO find a foreclosure and walk away but only if it make financial sense as walking away is not for everyone.

How irresponsible to just walk away from a mortgage just because the house value tanked. Alot of our homes lost their value, but decent, responsible people believe when you signed the contract and have the ability to pay, you pay. Our home values tank more because of idiots like you and then us responsible people get stuck with the bill for your homes you abandoned. If you couldn't afford the $4,000 per month mortgage you shouldn't have taken it on. I hope your credit goes to shit and I hope you don't have the opportunity to buy property again.
