J-Fled's Twisted Logic

Evidently, our brainy Supernintendo never took Logic 101. Otherwise he might understand that just because A and B are present, C isn't necessarily preordained. He unleashed this screamer at Sunday's press conference:
  • At the same news conference, Weis said a Country Club Hills woman who was shot during a heated card game might have still been alive if there had not been a gun in her friend's Calumet Heights home. Patricia Clark was shot multiple times Thursday after an argument with her friend, who went into a back bedroom, grabbed a gun and fired. Clark, 51, died Saturday.

"What a horrible loss of life over a card game," Weis said. "This is why it's so dangerous to have weapons in the house. People get upset, they get angry. ... If that gun wasn't in the house, there's probably an excellent chance that woman would be alive today."

How about this for a supposition:
  • If there wasn't a deck of cards in that house, there's an excellent chance that woman would be alive today.
Honest to pete, we almost choked to death on our Sunday chips and beer after hearing this stupidity. We mean, we understand J-Fled has to toe the company line working for the delusional midget, and $330,000 buys Shortshanks a lot of liberty with J-Fled's diminishing credibility, but geez. How good does that ass really taste?

Personally, I would like to congratulate our wonderful retired FBI overlord.

Monday afternoon I biked a good portion of our amazing lakefront. Just north of North Avenue I encountered five(5)blue shirts walking down the path. About a block later I saw a cop on horseback. Another block later in the North Avenue beach parking lot I saw an oversized wagon waiting for any troublemakers. At Olive Park, just north of Navy Pier, was a canine unit.

Now once I got south of Oak Street Beach I saw ZERO police presence out to McCormick Place where the FD Memorial is.

Thank you, Superintendent Weis. The amazing grasp of tactical deployment that you and your command staff has insured that trouble will not likely occur from Oak Street to North Avenue.

Now the rest of the lakefront... eh that might be another story.

Now I suspect one or two exempt members, and I do mean M E M B E R s, of the department may read this silly, relatively unknown blog.

If so I suggest you put on your thinking caps and invest in some prostate saving recumbent bikes for the "warriors" that work the lakefront.

http://lightfootcycles.com/ranger.php

Perhaps even a recumbent trike.

I ride a recumbent. Which is not as fun as riding Meghan Fox, but it does the job.

Just because the exempt staff suffers from erectile dysfunction doesn't mean the average cop has to.

Now get to work and order the bikes from Vanecko Cycles.

Maybe we're just looking at this the wrong way. Maybe Weis wants to be the next Chief of Police for Country Club Hills.

Why else would he meddle in, and comment on, someone else's town???

Oh, and the job only pays $115,000 a year.

SCC,

How about a post on British Petroleum and their destruction of the Gulf of Mexico?

The reality is that the leak is the worst ecological disaster in the history of the world.

The Exxon Valdez tanker spill was the worst disaster in North America, until this BP oil well disaster.

The BP spill is generating an oil spill the size of the Exxon Valdez every 2.5 days. This is UNREAL!

They have turned off the cameras, they have effectively lied about everything.

US President Barack Hussein Obama, is totally lying and ignoring the worst ecological disaster in world history.

BP, dumps two tons of poisonous toxic waste into Lake Michigan everyday at the Whiting, Indiana BP Refinery. This is done with the approval of the Federal and state government and is within 10 miles of the Chicago Water Department intake crypt, for our water.

British Petroleum is the largest supporter of the International Carbon Tax and dictates all laws through their puppet rulers.

BP, is NO GOOD! Don't buy their gasoline, their oil or anything they produce!

People kill people. Guns Don't kill people. Just a thought...... I guess since guns are so BAD, we should ban, knives, baseball bats, spoons, forks, bedframes (Van Der Sloot) rope, twine, string, needles, nailguns, nail files, stiletto heels, hammers, chainsaws, woodchippers, women's cuban stockings, t-ball posts, bathtubs (Petersons 2nd wife), pipes, etc etc etc..............

We would all be living in a bubble.. And the average citizen would be slaughtered by even MORE record numbers.........It has been proven time and time again the states with CCW have the least amount of GUNSHOT violence. Miami went 4 months last year without a single HOMICIDE.........Geeze I wonder why??? CCW....... That's why. Dude has to think twice before he tries to rob or kill the average Joe.

Look at Europe.....they are basically forbidden to own a gun.... BUT, death by knives are UP big time. Where there is a will there is a way.

I guess i am bitching because i like my paper plates and plastic forks and knives and don't want them to be illegal because they could be used in a commission of a crime.

The point is moot. The gun ban is still in effect and yet this woman is dead from being shot by another woman. How is this possible? The ban failed from day one. It is not possible to ban an item legal or not, just look at the drug trade. The ban was never about guns anyway. It was about controlling people and we can't control people who don't want to be controlled. The woman is dead because of criminal behavior and(I wouldn't doubt)lot's of alcohol and drugs that day. Yet they blame an inanimate object and not the criminal.

Sorry SSC, but I gotta disagree with you on this one. First off, I agree that the gun ban is a waste of effort, one that penalizes the law-abiding and one that is ignored by the law-breaking. And I agree that Weis is making his statement solely to support the Mayor's stance on handguns.

But the truth of the matter is that the availability of guns to people with poor foresight and zero impulse control is a huge contributor to the murder rate. It takes a lot longer to get a knife into a person's chest or a rope around their throat than it does to pull a trigger, and in such cases the victim has a chance to defend themselves while the offender has a chance to listen to the voice in their head that, hopefully, is saying, "hey, do you reallyh want to kill this woman over a freaking poker game?"

You play a significant role in setting the stage for debate here, SSC, and I commend you for it. Calling Weis out for backing City Hall's stance on this is noted, and appropriate, in my opinion. But to suggest that a deck of cards was just as responsible for this murder as the gun was reflects too strongly your own bias.

Yes, the cards might have made the murder, in the mind of one, appropriate (in the twisted logic of the shooter), but it was the gun that made it possible.

Maybe Weis thinks that's a Chicago neighborhood, like Chatham or Avondale or Pullman?

I wonder what it feels like to go ANYWHERE in this Department, any District, any Area, any Unit even any office at 35th Street and know that you are totally despised by absolutely everyone.

That the eyes of everyone are following you around the room and hoping that you leave, or melt down or get struck by lightning.

There are long-time bosses, and those Jody promoted himself with the approval of Shorty as well as Blueshirts that are praying for an act of God to save what's left of the CPD and we can start to rebuild.

And just what did the gun do that made this possible? A gun can't do anything on its own, it needs a person to anything. I am so sick of you people and your guns are bad mentality. When nirvana comes (I'm sure it's just around the corner, the messiah is in the white house and will make it possible) and no one needs anything, no one wants for anything and no one wants to take something from someone else, that which is not theirs, when we all can control our impulses and not commit violent acts, then you can ban firearms and when you can amend the US Constitution to prohibit firearms. Until then, shut the hell up with that nonsense.

I'm fairly old now and if 2 or 3 thugs decide to make me their victim, what the hell am I to do? Call dial a prayer, 911? Oh, I know, run like hell and pray these young monsters can't catch me? No, if flight is possible, I will consider that option, if standing my ground with my firearm seems like the best choice, then I will choose what I will do and I'd like to be able to choose what I will do WITHOUT your damn interference because you aren't the one that might die there, I am.

It's called "blaming the victim." Got the populace so well trained that they're echoing it when something happens to them.

Tried a little experiment in conversation this weekend and it worked again. You are an oddball if you lock things up, and you will get hostile responses; if you tell a story about how all your tools were stolen, it's har-de-har-har and you're one of the guys.

It's all abnormal, backwards -- part of the Great Inversion of Right and Wrong.

Just like that smartass on here who made some remark after I reported the difficulty of even getting a small refund from a supermarket these days. What's the point -- "Man up and take the hit?" That's stupid. I contacted the regional office, and you can bet I got my money back.

There were some other beneficial changes at the place too -- intrusive "guard" vanished, uniforms back on everyone else, and checkers keeping their mouths shut and ringing the sale correctly instead of yelling he-say-she-say back and forth like you weren't even there.

Did this before at another store nearby (all the big places are the same now) and Mr. 19-year-old-know-it-all-checker suddenly wasn't behind the register indoors in the warmth anymore, talking up the pretty Spanish-girl baggers and ringing up mistakes. He was out in the cold rain with a safety vest and a long strap, dragging eight squealing, wobbling shopping carts at a time back uphill through the parking lot to the store.

I got a nice letter from the manager, too. Funny.

You can make a difference, but you gotta do something.

On a warm summer's evenin' on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces,
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
so if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

Ev'ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
'Cause ev'ry hand's a winner and ev'ry hand's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep."

When he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

There are guns everywhere and they are not going to disappear. If, as the demegogues want us to believe, guns automatically lead to deaths, then the homicide count would be in the hundreds of thousands or millions. The real question is why some who have access to guns kill illegally and others with the same access do not. Get off this nonsense about the deck of cards and raise the right question. It would be better to limit the vitriol and the vulgarity and raise legitimate questions which make that little prick stutter. (Sorry, I couldn't help it.)
