OT, but related to driving. Squad car accident on midnights the other day in 015. The lower control arm cracked in 2 pieces right at the ball joint on a TAHOE. Sideswiped a parked car, bought a wrought iron fence, too. Coppers OK. Tire/wheel assembly sitting in the middle of the street with steering knuckle, etc. still attached. Gotta love them TAHOES!

That happens 3 or 4 times a week on Ashland, at the Pershing overpass. Watched many a car, driven by people both sober and intoxicated, launch their vehicles off that divider. That overpass needs to be removed.

Think my CPD friends. I am a copper with another agency, I've done a fair amount of labor negotiations.

My take on this is the city is going to let manpower dwindle until your union is willing to award significant concessions, probably up to a two-tier system, just to get some bodies on the street to help.

Just my two sense.

Best of luck brothers, hope you all stay safe.

Wow thanks for your upstanding comments. Most of us believe the same HOWEVER please remember that this is NOT about this officer drinking or being drunk. That is besides the point and none of us know if that was true or if any other officer "covered" for him as you are insinuating. The fact is the two deceased people WERE drinking and DRUNK and ran a stop sign in front of this officer. From the damage to their car it is CLEAR that they were in the intersection when they were not supposed to be. If someone plows right in front of you while you have the right of way, and you cannot stop in time but strike them - post your name and I'll be sure to ask for jail time for you. Get your facts straight officer. If you are even an officer.

I for one hope the FOP never gives any concessions no matter what. If it gets bad enough we just stop going to calls and pay attention to officer safety. When the citizens feel the shortage acutely let them take up the cry. When they call 911 and no one shows up for an hour or more let the citizens see mayor mumbles for what he is, election time is coming.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the other driver blow a stop sign? I know the accident happened at a T intersection and Ardelean had the right of way.

If that was the case why didn't our esteemed media investigate what the driver of the other vehicle was doing shortly before the accident?

Nice attitude. Apparently you haven't been on the job long enough to realize that you can get into trouble just by doing your job.

More P.O.'s have been screwed over false allegations than actual willful actions.

We all know that this story would have died less than a week after the accident if it involved anyone else. But since it was a P.O., now they have the opportunity to sell more papers and up their ratings by sensationalizing the story. A good example of this would be the recent accident in 024 in which a drunk (oops, I'm sorry.......alleged drunk) driver hit a parked car, pushing it forward just as a 10 yr old kid was crossing and killing him.

How long did that story last in the media?

Thought so.

***********************************

I sure hope you aren't the police. If so you are a dumb shit. Just keep regurgitating what you read in the newspapers and hear on talk radio.

There was no cover up or improper actions by the officers. Nobody put anybody in the trick bag.

The officers on scene didn't believe he was impaired. Some versions of the story say he declined a breath test. That's his right. Many citizens pulled over for DUI also refuse to submit to testing.

Officer gets arrested. Notifications are made. Hours later a Lieutenant shows up and gives the officer a direct order to submit to test (administrative blow) or be terminated. No recourse, so the officer blows. He's under the legal threshold for impairment.

Two victims die in the accident, that appears they are mainly at fault in causing. The State decides to use the results of the officers administrative blow (which he can't refuse)to charge him. This was never done before. The judge made the correct decision in making it inadmissible in a criminal proceding and threw it out. Not popular with the media or public, but a brave move by the judge.

I mean these same (police haters) are so outraged or offended that police may have compelled confessions from remorseless career criminals.(Burge case) But then want the department to compel their officers to force it's members to submit to breath tests (testimony/confession,etc) to be used against them.

I actually heard a host of WLS on Saturday actually rail against this officer and talk about a cover up and thin blue line, yada, yada, yada. Essentially this jag off police hater was just making up shit to support his anti police agenda.

An officer called in and tried to explain the case. The host was rude and kept interrupting him. The officer related that the victims were partially responsible, as they ran a stop sign and were also impaired.

The host disconnected the caller and in essence said "he's lying, the two victims were given a breathalyzer on scene and both passed it they weren't drunk!"

How was that possible?

I would guess that blood was drawn at their autopsies and blood gases analyzed. But a breath test on scene as they lay dying..give me a break! This host was a condesending, know-it-all, pompous, asshole!..Just like you, you 2 yr wonder!

-----------------------------
In these economically trying times, Daley and his cronies need to keep spending on things like police as low as possible so they can spend it in areas where there is more opportunity for graft.

Things are going to get very, very dangerous in Chicago soon.
----------------------------------
It already is. Its just not real apparent to the public at large, yet. There are pockets of Chicago that are relatively safe but those pockets are shrinking.

Just remember one thing, the dept has the authority to delay your retirement. It is more cost effective to let guys retire, but it is an option they have if chicago keeps looking more like detroit.

You sound like the typical idiot white shirt on this job. White shirts handled the DUI investigation and a LT made the decision for a administrative blow. The DUI investigation was a simple task if the white shirts had one officer knowledgable about DUI. Mandatory blood draw. Instead they wait 7 hours to make a command decision. This department is soooo fucked.
