Blackhawks

Evidently, our silence on the subject isn't bringing them any more luck, so we might as well have a post about it.

Yes, we are among the biggest Blackhawks fans and you wouldn't believe how much it has been killing us to maintain our self-imposed exile from the hockey world. It's just that earlier this season when we wrote about them, they seemed to lose more often than they won. And being the superstitious sort, we noticed that when we weren't writing about them, they went on a tear and ended up making a serious run for the President's Cup.

In any event, it's time for the Blackhawks to stop messing around and take advantage of the first opportunity in almost 50 years to win the Stanley Cup. We don't count the 1992 Finals appearance as a "chance to win" because they were completely dominated and destroyed by the Penguins that year.

This is the chance, this is what we've been waiting for, this is the "One Goal" talked about for years now. Don't give it away.

I'm very concerned about the Hawks. They seem to be getting pushed around by the Flyers with ease and aren't playing with the same heart either. When the Flyers aren't on a power play it often appears as though they are. The Hawks need to play as though they will never have another chance for the cup.

The rule is, you don't talk about a no-hitter while it's happening, or else you'll ruin it.

This applies to win streaks as well.

It is fair game to discuss losses, though, as open and frank discussion of losses does not impact the balance of the Karmic wheel and can only serve to motivate wins.

In the coming days, if you see a man in a Hawks jersey wandering the 04 flogging himself with a palm branch, waving a hockey stick covered with Rubber Chickens and chanting something indiscernible, please be kind to him and do not call in psych. That's just me doing my win dance...

I hate to say it, but the diapers that comprise the current Blackhawks roster don't stand a chance. They're much too immature to focus and get the job done when it counts.

While I wish otherwise, it's painfully obvious these guys are the Hair Gels of the NHL: young, dumb, inexperienced and supervised by a sub-par leader.

Enjoy the ride and all that goes with it now, but prepare for the inevitability of failure and disappointment...just like the CPD.

It's a recipe for disaster, just waiting for the timer to let us know it's done.

I read a comment in the newspaper that it's not always the best team that wins it's the team that's playing the best. As of right now I still think the Hawks are the better team but in games 3&4 the Flyers were playing better together and nit making the mental mistakes the Hawks were making.
It's still right there for the taking for the Hawks but Game 5 is an absolutely must win. I'd like to see them win with authority and put some doubt back in the Flyers.
Go Hawks!!!

I have watched all the playoff games that I could and in the past four games of the Stanley Cup it seems like the Hawks just aren't into winning. Sometimes when I watch it seems like there are more Flyers on the ice then Hawks. They seem to be everywhere. They seem to "want it" more.

I hope they get their act together and win the next two!

GO HAWKS!

To all the Sox fans who actually walked in the promised land...turn off the tv, save yourselves about 8 hours of your life and chalk this up to a Philly Cup! Chicago teams just dont know how to seal the deal. 2005 was lucky for the Sox (dont get me wrong, id kill for a lucky season!) but we saw what came of that team after that! So I can save you the drama...Philly in 6!

roenick hit the nail on the head. he said philly was ''all in''. all the players were playing 100% desperate to win. the hawks were not. the hawks are playing well in spurts only.this is a HUGE game tonight. the pressure is on the hawks. the heat is on coach q and toews....will they shine or melt? that ''hairgel'' comment might become true.

It's all good, Mary. :)

I do know that some people thought the Flyers would roll over and submit and the Hawks would have a sweep. The Flyers have overcome many obstacles to get where they are now.

To me, they're Destiny on Ice!

Glad to read your thoughts about the game, SCC. I always knew you were a huge hockey fan.

Looking forward to another fantastic game tonight.

GO FLYERS!!!!!!!

And btw, you all be safe out there.

I said before the playoffs began that the Hawks would be done in one, and am happy to say I was wrong.
But I also said that coach Q is NOT a Stanley cup coach.
He sticks with things too long hoping thongs will correct themselves. Over seven games one period can be too long.

The Hawks are being out hustled to the puck, shoved off the puck, aren't making passes, and look desperate and unsure when they get tge puck. And, they cry to the refs about it. Pronger has 20 years in the league do Buff or Q
think the refs aren't going to give him the slide on calls?

I would like to see Eager with Towes and Sharp and Buff with Kane and Hosa. It's time to make the Flyers worry about match-ups, which Q does to excess.

The Hawks can do this, they just have to play the games of their lives. Keep throwing pucks at the net.

MASTERS of gloom & doom, SCC, but your Hawks are just not up to what the Flyers have in their toolbox. While I too would savor a Hawks NHL Championship, I don't see it happening this year. We should all be thankful that they advanced as far as they did, and hope for a better showing next year, which they will most certainly accomplish.

Someone needs to drop Pronger. He's dominating and Big Buff is being smart about retaliating in front of the net. The refs certainly seem to respect the hardware in his trophy case. One clean open ice hit on him will stem the tide...

6/06/2010 01:01:00 AM

I totally agree. The refs were probably told by the league that this series is going to go longer than 4 games. They are letting Pronger and the Flyers get away with a lot of crap, like interference, and lots of stick-work, but they call bullshit on the Hawks. The Hawks are also taking stupid retaliation penalties, they need to be more disciplined. The Hawks will win game 5.

Yes, but the Hawks still won the first 2 games, and almost pulled out game 3 in Philly, it went into overtime before Philly could win it. No Hawk wins went into O.T. This easily could have been a 3 to 1 series lead for the Hawks, but not the other way around for Philly.

Still think Hawks have advantage even though the refs are trying to even things by swallowing their whistle and not calling infractions when Hawks are victimized, but not missing many of the Hawks infractions. If the refs continue this crap it will be a blow to the credibility of the N.H.L.

these refs suck, Pronger is like a lumberjack back there and he gets no penalties?!! I'm not worried yet, we managed to pull within one goal from lopsided officiating with 4 minutes left. game one Flyers- 0 penalties.
last game flyers- 1
blackhawks- 5!
yeah right.

then the refs call a scoresheet penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct so it doesn't look that bad. give me a break. tonights game is HUGE.
don't panic, don't give up.

Hey SCC,
Off topic and I apologize for that, but a disturbing trend has been occurring in A/2 and I was Detectives need to call ASAs to get felony approval have been knocked down by the Det. Sgts because they cannot or wont add to their case loads. Recent legit AGG Bats including last nites att. murder to P.O. in which a convicted felon attempted to run over several tact guys in 003 resulting in a four district chase eventually ending on the Dan Ryan was not given felony consideration because the Det. Sgt. wouldn't pursue or assign a detective for felonies. Several department vehicles were damaged by the offender but luckily no cops injured. Offender was processed in 003 and only charged with misdemeanors.
Its disturbing when the we can't even help each other out. Since the shortage has been made known with the detectives I've notice this happening more and more. I was wondering if the other Areas are noticing the same trends. You think this has come from on high or are the Detectives doing it on their own? Also does this cut down on the statistical reporting also?

O.T. It is amazing how this does not make the local rags but had to be found in the N.Y Timeshttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/us/06cncpulse.html

I especially like this quote "City officials said much of the increase was due to the fact that they had been a year behind in their payments to the group under the main contract between After School Matters and the city. In 2009, the city paid what was owed the group for both 2008 and 2009."

It doesn't matter that City workers are getting laid off or work years without a contract, it doesn't matter our pension is woefully underfunded as long as pet projects and connected contractors get their pork.

Just another day in the most corrupt city in America.
