Gun "Rules" Begin Today

And should fall after court challenges. Some highlights from ABC 7:
  • Chicago's new gun ordinance goes into effect Monday, allowing residents to have handguns in their homes.
"...allowing residents"? The City cannot "allow" what is an inalienable Right enshrined in the Constitution. This "allowing" bullshit is the media, once again, catering to an egomaniac who is attempting to circumvent citizens rights.
  • The new ordinance has a number of strict requirements. It will require training before residents apply for a city firearms permit that will cost $125. Only one gun a month per adult may be registered, and owners must have no violent crime or DUI convictions in their history.
$125? That seems certain to be struck down at some point. Charging an exorbitant fee for a Constitutionally guaranteed right? The "registering one gun a month" provision is in effect criminalizing people who are able to buy multiple weapons at a time. It appears the City is attempting to create their own "bottleneck" at the registration step and the Courts may look upon that as a bad faith effort on the City's part - kind of like when they negotiate a contract.
  • A spokesperson for the city of Chicago said the Chicago Police Department is still hammering out the specifics on the training requirements and regulations needed to get a city gun permit.

Sources say that should be completed by Sunday for Monday, when Chicago's new handgun ordinance goes into effect.

We sense a lot of problems on this end.

The DUI thing is interesting...

The "NO" bar is usually set at "felony, period". Obviously, there is some trickiness involving domestic violence convictions and active restraining orders as it pertains to gun ownership and buying... I don't profess to know much about that...

But denying someone the right to defend their home because of a past DUI? We're not talking about habitual offenders or falling-down drunkards here. Lots of average Janes and Joes made that mistake before, paid whatever price the courts said and have since moved on, having learned well from their mistake. Is Chicago seriously going to deny handgun permits over a past DUI?

Any connoisseur of quintessential American comedic culture has seen the film Animal House and is intimately familiar with the exploits of Delta Tau Chi House at Faber College. As the, “worst house on campus,” the fraternity is an assortment of slackers, misfits and childish sorts more interested in debauchery and partying than learning. Because of this the Deltas run afoul of the College administration time and again and are expelled.

This leads up to a climatic, impassioned but ultimately ignorant speech by John “Bluto” Blutarsky in which he tries to rally the Deltas to go out with a bang. During that speech is when he utters the iconic phrase of stupidity, which sums up so neatly why the Deltas were being expelled, “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!” Bluto then charges out of the Fraternity House and half-heartedly the rest of the members eventually follow. They then proceed to wreak havoc during the College’s annual homecoming parade destroying property and committing mischief.

This scene resembles remarkably well the way liberals act in real life and nothing illustrates this better than the recent case of McDonald v. Chicago where the onerous gun ban imposed by the City of Chicago was successfully challenged and struck down by the United States Supreme Court. The reason the city of Chicago lost the case is obvious to anyone more interested in the truth and who has not spent their time seeking out in debauchery while partying on the tax payer’s dime. Mayor Richard Daley however is not such a person.

The City of Chicago lost the case because despite years liberals who are unkind to liberty trying desperately to rewrite the meaning of the Second Amendment to our Federal Constitution into some non-individual right and only a right of the state they were unsuccessful. In defiance of the case’s outcome Mayor Richard “Bluto” Daley essentially stood up and made his own ignorant proclamation that this was not over. He has promised a new gun law which will be, by his own admission, a burdensome mishmash regulations designed to allow gun ownership but only after applicants have jumped though a myriad of hoops and paid some hefty fees to the coffers. What he will ultimately try to establish is a way to skirt the rights and privileges of Chicago residents by allowing them to technically own guns but to make doing so so difficult that so that few, if any, will be able to meet all the requirements he will set forth.

This is not unusual for the political left to act this way. Their entire philosophy is that anything they want, regardless of its legitimacy, will be the law and if they don’t get their way it will be Hell on Earth until they get it.

"It will require training before residents apply for a city firearms permit that will cost $125."

Who is to train whom where? Retired CPD still has to go to Will County to get their HR218 card.

Some training, a couple of evenings at a City College to teach basic safety, rules of engagement and don't shoot just because somebody pissed you off would be a good thing.

Will they next require that they be registered Democrats. Daley was even hinky about the fact that there were shooting events in the 'Limpics he wanted soooo bad.

I wonder if these are still there. At the Area Detective Headquarters, they use to have standard eye test charts hanging up on the walls. This was to test anyone who wanted to register a gun who didn't have a drivers license to prove they could see to shoot. Just curious, anyone know?

Sorry Daley, your new gun laws are a big yawn and nothing at the Tackleberry residence where I have been breaking your stupid guns laws for more than 20 years. At my house, when seconds matter and the police are 20-30 minutes away (through no fault of their own), I am the security. I will arm it with what I see fit in an array of lethal and non-lethal weapons, develop tactical defensive and offensive positions within my home and property and deploy what is necessary when needed. I practice at suburban ranges both indoor and outdoor to maintain my profecincey (especially with my rifle)
and I have no need for crummy corrupt politicans telling me how I should live my life in violation of my constitutional protections from corrupt government.

The city should make that a side job for off duty range guys and coppers who are NRA or ISRA qualified. The citizens should be given free training. The citizens should be able to use our outdoor police range (wishful thinking) whenever we aren't using it for a fee. Now thats CAPS in action.

Let Shore, Ray O'Herron, and some other local shops put up some advertising and such. Make it a quasi-government facility.

What is next from Daley, a permit to exercise free speech ? A permit to get due process maybe ?

I could be wrong but did anyone notice that new ordinance saying about the police getting free permits ? I didn’t see that so maybe everyone should get ready to pony up the cash.

Will someone PLEASE adjust the midgets' medicine dosage?

My God! This egomaniac has got to go. Being Mayor is one thing, but he definitely has a GOD complex.

Rule of law? There is no such thing in Chicago. If Daley doesn't like it, it's either ignored or tossed.

Anyone remember Meigs Field? On March 31, 2003 he had a PRIVATE company go in and gouge X's on the runway, thus stranding several aircraft that were parked on the field. Why did he do this? He claimed that with the airport closed, it would make the city safer from any terrorist attacks.

However, it seems like Shortshanks did not do his home work. When Meigs was open, the downtown area was within it's class D air space. A class D air space requires two-way radio communication with the airport tower. Now, with the airport gone, the downtown area air space is classified as E/G. This means that any airplane can LEGALLY fly as close as 1,000 ft. from these buildings with no radio communication at all.

Add to that the $33,000 fine imposed by the FAA for closing the field without the required 30 day notice and the city having to pay back the $1 million in misappropriated FAA Airport Improvement Program funds that it used to destroy the airfield and build the Northerly Island park.

Gee, I don't remember that second part being reported on in the local media.

Are you contending that it's better to be a victim than to defend oneself? That is, that one has a right to die or be seriously injured, raped, or otherwise terrorized because our local illegitimate government says so.

It is the constitution. Other cities and towns do not ban handguns and even allow citizens to carry concealed on the public way, and lo and behold, the horror stories of the liberals never came to pass! I predict that the new city ordinance will also be struck down by the courts. This is why I joined the NRA and the State Rifle Association, not because I own a lot of guns and like to hunt or shoot, but to protect our constitution from the liberals. One thing Daley said is correct, we need common sense gun laws and common sense tells me thios new oridinance will never fly!!

I would suggest for officers not to be quick in arresting anyone who is in possession of a handgun on their own property (garage/backyard/roof etc .) Daley and his screwy ideas could land you in the shitbag. An Officer does not have to enforce an UN-lawful law, like one that is against the United States Constitution as ruled by the Supreme Court several weeks ago. If a supervisor orders you to arrest someone for a questionable incident put it into the narrative of the arrest report.

Ignore the whole thing. Get your guns from out of state or from a Downstate dealer. Get an Illinois gun-owners card if you must; most downstaters don't. The gun dealers downstate know their customers and ignore it. Downstate people have plenty of guns -- I know; I grew up there and know lots of people down there who consider all the gun laws in Illinois to be a tiresome joke. Get your guns, keep them, use them if necessary, and ignore anything that the Shitty of Shitcago has to say about it. When a million Chicago people do that, the law will fail. It's obvious, because the criminals all have guns now, despite the now-invalidated ban.

I'll stay here in another state where I have guns with no registration or permission necessary, and criminals have to wonder if breaking into my home will end in their deaths. Yes, there is a permit to carry law, but most people ignore that, too.

Yes, only at the area HQs, not at the districts -- which, of course, could make for time off work and a long bus ride "for someone without a driver's license."

All part and parcel of a carefully-designed series of hurdles which began in trying to get registration forms from officers who claimed that the station was "out of them," continued in a search for a place to get acceptable photographs taken and trips to currency exchanges for money orders and notarizations (from the prying, wisecracking smartass safe behind his heavy glass) and ended when a re-registration was missed, making the weapon permanently unregisterable and illegal despite the citizen's best efforts and intentions.

As 7/12/2010 03:42:00 AM just said, "allowing them to technically own guns but to make doing so so difficult that so that few, if any, will be able to meet all the requirements he will set forth."

In the meantime, any vicious, eyelid-drooping, IQ 59 defective who wants a gun has learned that you can just grab one from a distracted policeman -- one who's injured and helpless after an auto accident, say, or some poor bastard struggling to change clothes in his car because the city's too thoughtless to provide a locker like every school kid has.

There is a lesson here somewhere -- and I really hate to think what it is.

"When Meigs was open, the downtown area was within it's class D air space. A class D air space requires two-way radio communication with the airport tower. Now, with the airport gone, the downtown area air space is classified as E/G. This means that any airplane can LEGALLY fly as close as 1,000 ft. from these buildings with no radio communication at all."

Gaa. Ah ha.

Ha.

Does the Mayor know this?

Even better -- it's obvious that there was no one in the entire city government with the backbone to tell him that he would be WORSENING the situation.

The Beech wavers, then steadies on its course, the turbochargers wailing as the pilot -- impassive behind his sunglasses -- pushes the throttles all the way forward. On and on he comes, every rivet and scratch on the plane becoming sharply visible...

Sweet dreams, Mr. Mayor.

"Yes, I want any citizen who wants to have a firearm in their home and is not a felon who be able to legally purchase and keep a firearm. And yes, I am a retired cop and I have thought this through."

Time for us to think, too, what a "felony" really is -- any offense technically punishable by 365 days or more imprisonment.

That's painting with an awfully broad brush, considering that this is the new, fearful/aggressive America, where everybody is screaming for somebody to do something about anything but the actual problem.

Some suburban kids in a passing car nailed a roadside police radar speed-display trailer with a watermelon. Felony!

This concept of eternal damnation, even for a first offense, with no "fresh start" to be found in any of the fifty states -- let alone over in the next town, like it used to be -- is really pretty modern, and reflects the underlying ineffectual hysteria of the miserable place this country has become.

I don't recall a judge ever reading off the multiple life sentences that come with a "felony" conviction -- life without a gun, life without a job, life without a place to live, life without ever being trusted or believed again, life in the shadows -- but they should be made to do so.

"Truth in sentencing," as it were.

$125 for a constitutional right? I wonder how these liberals would feel if there was a poll tax? I guess they'd be fine with it as long as it was for conservatives only. How about a license and registration fee for that free speech? How about a registration fee for that abortion that is no where mentioned as a right in either the Bill of Rights or the Constitution? These socialist, communist, liberal Nazis, yes, I said liberal Nazi, the Nazis were a socialist, left leaning group, would be cackling to the high heavens about that one.

But, you know, guns kill people. Just like your spoon kills your fat ass from eating too much
