An Inspiration

How many times do we hear about someone this giving being taken so unfairly?
  • "I want people to know that he's a great man and gave the Chicago police a great name," said Mazen Istanbouli, a DePaul University professor and close friend of the officer. "He was a giver. He never thought of himself and always thought of others."

Istanbouli, who is blind, said he and Soderberg had known each other for about three years and met because they shared a love of running. He said the officer helped him train and competed by his side in triathlons in New York and Chicago, running, biking and swimming alongside him and serving as his guide.

The two most recently ran together this spring at a race for fallen police officers in Chicago. Istanbouli said he brought up Soderberg's name earlier Wednesday because he wanted the officer to accompany him at an upcoming bicycle race.
Not just training and participating in triathlons, which is incredibly demanding. But doing it with someone who would otherwise have no chance of ever fulfilling their ambition to run, swim and bike because of crappy hand life dealt them.

This should be Thor Soderberg's legacy. He helped others succeed and overcome obstacles and live their dreams. Truly an inspiration to all he touched.

And we should also never forget that he was stolen from us by someone with none of that.

I wish that the family would sue the city for not properly prosecuting this POS. If he would have been locked up then this wouldn't have happened. I know it seems low but please do it. A message needs to be sent.

The more we hear about this guy, it's clear why they had him as an academy trainer. He was a role-model type human being. This is just awful. Positively fucking disgusting to lose a man of this caliber because of some subhuman criminal turd.

I hope some administrative consideration is given to instillation security, at least for those stations located deep in 'Indian Country'. This should never be allowed to happen again.

I was watching WGNs coverage and they were interviewing the blnd professors trainer who was a white female in her early fifties. She commented that officer soderberg wasn't an aggressive officer but a kind and gentle person and that all police should be like that.

In this liberal bitchs mind the streets of Chicago should be some sort of testing ground for feel good policing policies.

While most of us are in agreement that proactive policing should be on the backburner, that doesn't mean we should ever drop our guard and attentiveness to our surroundings. Protect your space and your partners with vigilance.

Was touched by his wife's statement too: "In his honor, please use a kind word, a smile -- as much as you can give to help someone in need. Every one of us can do a tremendous amount of good to impact a child, even one that isn't ours."

This fallen Police Officer is the example of most rank and file Police Officers, a Police Officer committed to his job, fellow Police Officers, and the community, and not what the present leadership of the Chicago Police Department exhibits. Thank You Officer, You will not be forgotton.

Police don't mean shit to them. There are no nordic reverends to appease on this one and thus no political mileage to be gained. Thats why you don't see them or hear a peep. Weis is a POS and so are his exempts. FREE COZZI.

"Operation Protect Youth" The reason they have to have this operation is that we do not have enough Police Officers. We are critically short of manpower. Blood is on the hands of Mayor Daley because of his thieving and corruption.

Read the article on Chicago Breaking news. The offender in the officers murder has been charged. His family says he is mental and has NEVER had a job. Go Figure! Also has an extensive criminal record and is a known gang member. It's about time some judges answer up why this guy is on the street. So sad that because of the judges incompetence a killer was out walking the streets. Who is the judge that let this man free after shooting his own brother ?

Who the fuck, really care what either of those douche-nozzles has to say. Daley would say some bullshit, about how it's the guns fault, and how the Hand Gun Ban would've stopped this from happening.
What's w/ J-Fleds hair? Is it polyester? That shit is jacked up!

Why is it that we find things out about officers after they're dead? It's not just a coincidence that wortham and Thor were doing great things and were murdered, they just happen to be among a large group of public servants who are good people. People are tired of being force fed negative media, how about the news media touch on stories like this regularly?

Well, we have wished them away and I hope they stay away during this process. It's about time to realize that they are not wanted! We can honor our own with respect by only those who actually honor our own showing up.

If people voted for Conservative Law and Order Politicians, like Sheriff Joe of Arizona, this kind of stuff would not happen nearly as much. This mayhem is mainly being caused by a small portion of individuals who would be in prison instead of out on the streets, running basically unchecked, compliments of the Democommiecrat Party, and their quest for power , greed, money, via the Minority vote, who they use and abuse, over and over again, but the minority community is not smart enough to figure out who their real enemy is.

what about this piece of shit pulled from one of our news rags here in the city, a quote from our JFled "Asked about what could be done about security at police parking lots, Weis said police facilities have video surveillance, but added that little could be done to prevent such attacks by people with little regard for human life."

Video surveillence? Where? HQ? not at the districts that's for sure

Police Supt. Jody Weis said he just cannot make sense of this crime.

"I simply cannot understasnd how a person can have total disregard of life, and for those who keep order on the streets, that he can attack, disarm, and then shoot and kill a uniformed police officer in broad daylight," Weis said.

A search of Cook County police records shows Brewer is a convicted felon with an extensive police record: 19 arrests since 2004. Among those arrests are three felonies, 10 misdemeanors and three convictions.

The arrests include several drug charges, and even an aggravated assault charge for shooting his own brother on July 4, 2006.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE WAKE THIS NUMB NUTS UP TO THE REAL WORLD!!!
J-Fled you dumb M-F! Guy shot his own brother, think he cares about us?!?! How can this happen, because it dosen't make sense to your littel Fed mind?!?! God you disgust me... I really don't know who is dumber, you or your boss...

May the giver rest in peace.
May the taker rot in hell.

Thor Soderberg was a good COP, Friend, Role model, mentor, person. He was lost because we failed to protect ourselves. We sit in stations that have open access to the public, parking lots that any offender (sorry citizen) can walk into. An officer was killed while he took off his vest and duty belt at the trunk of his car. The offender attacks him and kills him with his own gun. Who is to blame, the city for not protecting US. Several time people have walked into stations an shot at desk personnel, 3,1, now TRU(old 7). I am sure others can name more. This is all in the name of CAPS! Go to a suburb, they protect there officers behind bullet proof glass, parking lots in more secure areas, with proper fencing. But not in chicago, and why is that?? FOP has nothing to say, we know that the supt. has now idea, shortshanks doesn't care. But the powers that be will go crazy when a 14 yo. walks into a stations and goes to work. Well someone walked into OUR HOUSE and an officer died. What do we do now?? RIP THOR you will never be forgotten.

Could not agree more with your post. This feel good, warm and fuzzy police department does not do anyone any good. The bullshit policies, gimmicks, lies, and lack of any real leadership in this cess pool of a city is now taking the lives of decent officers. I am done forever. Goodluck.

I didn't know either Soderberg or Wortham, but people who did know them all said that they were both outstanding young men (and Soderberg was young compared to me!). It's just a shame the Lord took two great men away from our ranks much too soon. It's really enough to test one's faith, so my message to you younger men and women on the Job is this:
1) Hang in there.
2) I know things look shitty here on the CPD on a day to day basis,
but I truly believe things are going to turn around for the better in 2011. I think that now the good, working people in this Shitty truly see what we're up against, and many of these political bums that have kicked us around and held this Dept. in political chains are going to find themselves pink-slipped courtesy of the voters next year.
3) Stay strong in your faith. If you haven't been close to your families, strengthen those ties.
You need them, and more importantly, THEY need YOU.
4) See #3. FAMILY is IMPORTANT.
God bless you all...we'll weather this storm, it will take time, but this lousy period of leadership not only in the CPD but in our City Govt. will turn around.

OT:
A big THANK YOU to the ODPO's who stopped to make sure I was safe during my street stop up north in 016 (cumberland/irving). I work with a bunch of experienced old timers on 2nd watch and we're very good at backing each other up but it's a big ass district and sometimes an assist is a long way off.
THANKS FOR LOOKING OUT.
