Gun Lawsuits

  • As Chicago prepares to implement its new firearms ordinance Monday, gun advocates have begun a legal assault, filing two lawsuits that constitutional law experts said could be the next round of challenges to how cities can regulate personal gun ownership.

Less than two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for citizens to have handguns at home, Chicago was hit with the lawsuits that target, among other things, the city's ban on gun shops, a controversial and untested regulation that lawyers said could be the next frontier in the battle over firearm rights.

Though Chicago officials said the ordinance, adopted after the court gutted the city's 28-year-old handgun ban, was designed to withstand legal challenges, law experts said some aspects of it might not hold up. While it is impossible to know how far the two federal lawsuits will go in court, experts said banning gun sales, limiting permit holders to one ready-to-fire weapon in a home and prohibiting guns in garages, porches and yards could pose problems for the city in the long run.
These will only be problems for Chicago as long as Shortshanks is wasting taxpayer money defending poorly written ordinances.

There are a number of elections coming up. Are you registered to vote in them?

Why would the City attempt to outlaw laser aiming devices? If you find yourself in an unorthodox position, a zeroed-in laser assures striking critical mass or even an accurate head shot.

Someone needs to find out who is the lawfirm handling the city's gun ban legal fight.

Who are they connected to?

How many hours are being billed?

What is the hourly rate?

How much is this costing the city?

Is this the best use of city resources??

Daley needs to stop this gun ban stuff. He (Daley) is only turning the good people of Chicago into Victims and Criminals. Also every time you here of a crazy or horrific crime it turns out he or she has a laundry list of arrests. Daley better look at what's going on with the court system, the Police can only catch these bad people. And if nothing happens its all a waste of time. It's only getting harder to catch these criminals.

Daley your no leader. And I hope the next Mayor understands the city's problems.

While I agree with all the comments about Daley's nuttiness on the subject of guns, he just might be a bright ray of sunshine for 2nd Amendment advocates. Even more so that he is right now since his idiocy gave SCOTUS an opportunity to further solidify our right to keep and bear...

Several decades ago, a Sheriff's Dept Merit Commission NW of Chicago and situated between Boone and Lake County got all uppity and decided they were going to run things THEIR way regardless of the fact that the law wasn't on their side. A couple of the officers took them to task on it and it wound up in front of the IL Supremes who promptly bitch slapped that merit commission and every other merit commission in the state by telling them, and confirming it to be the law of the land of Lincoln, that their ONLY purpose on earth was to manage the hiring and firing of the officers, they had absolutely no authority to create work rules, etc. Took the wind out of a lot of their sails.

Could well be the same thing will happen here. Daley's antics will draw not only the attention but the ire of SCOTUS and get them to actually define reasonable. If they do, you know that Shortshanks will have a stroke over their version of reasonable vs. his.

They did it because a scumbag drug dealer used a Ruger 9mm (with Laser attached) to shoot a Tactical Officer in the Morgan Park District. Thats why. I think a laser grip on a snub is a good thing for senior citizens.

Mara Georges stated on WTTW the other night that all of the legal work on defending the gun ordinance was handled in house with no legal fees ( although the salaries of the in house attorneys are really legal fees). The continued power of the democratic party in this city and county count on two things, low voter interest and turnout and straight democratic voting. They like to demonize the republicans to keep people voting for the democrates, especially black voters. So, register to vote and turn out an vote and things could change.

Yes I am registered to vote.

Everyone in my family, all of my friends are or will be registered to vote.

All the cops I know, fire fighters, anybody who works for this city I know will be registered to vote.

ALL THE ABOVE WILL VOTE or will hear from me personally.

I was said that only 25% of Chicago cops vote. No wonder Shortshnaks can treat us like crap. This will not happen again.

No all we need is a candidate to vote for and I'd love to see Jimmy Mauer run.

Which Daley Inc law firm will get the contract ? Oh wait, first Daley & Associates have to hire a consultant to study what's the best way to approach the challenge. Then subcontract a couple few law firms to work on behalf of the city. 4 years later Shanks long gone & the case is almost ready to be heard. Law firms are lining up to milk the cash cow. Of course this all could be dropped as soon Davis-Vanecko Arms Boutique opens up on Oak St, Water Tower & Navy Pier.

How close would his evaluation be to that of HITLER, STALIN or SADAM HUSAIN.

The Second Amendment, and what is left of a free press including this blog is all that is keeping him from becoming exactly like them.

Stay Safe, Register and Vote!

Enough about "Jimmy". Jimmy was part of the crew that was steering the Department towards the iceberg just before J-Fled grabbed the wheel and put the pedal to the medal.

The Union needs to get the voter registration in gear. Getting the Unit Reps authorized was a good first step. Let's go. ANYONE BUT DALEY IN 2011!
