Kass Column

If you haven't see it yet, click here:
  • As Chicago waited almost desperately Thursday for a star to become the city's basketball savior, another star rose on the South Side, at 61st Street and Racine Avenue.

It was a simple star of gold on a field of purple and black, the flag of mourning for Chicago police officers.

That gold star belongs, at least for a time, to police Officer Thor Soderberg, 43, shot to death the day before, not 100 yards from where that flag was raised.
Now how about a few columns from the writers across the city pointing out how someone who shot his own brother four years ago wasn't serving time for Aggravated Battery and UUW. Last we checked, those charges were worth at least a decade behind bars.

Never in Cook County though. Hmmm.

His daddy, another mentally deficient moron, say it was an accident. The shooting of the brother. An accident.

You can see the wheels of the insanity defense turning already. Poor boy must have been crazy, why they never knew. Hard to tell in that neighborhood exactly who is mentally ill and who isn't. That much could be true.

Thor's death is a tragedy of the greatest order. It is also a direct result of the pandering nanny-state that Illinois, Cook County and Chicago have become. There is blood on the hands of the ASA, who only charges slam dunk cases. There is blood on the hands of the mayor and the Illinois political machine, who refuse to properly assign responsibility and blame out of fear of losing votes. Give us a police department that is not run by an upper echelon of political flunkies, west side reverends and non police sideshow freaks. There is blood on the hands of our liberal court system, which places "social justice" above actual justice and proper punishment. Give the police and the citizens the manpower, the leadership and the backing to take back the streets.

Awwwwww!

Isn't that nice?

Ye olde wytch, Mike Sneed actually deigned to wax genuflective and spill ink casting The Police in a favorable light. When shortshanks itches, Sneed scratches... She among others have carried water for Daley Inc. in the media campaign/mass public brainwashing orchestrated against The Police in order to turn the public against the thin blue line. Thus making it easy for shortshanks to destroy CPD without public outcry. It's the stuff of 1930's era Stalin and Pravda.

It gives Daley Inc. great joy to see The Police openly disrespected, dehumanized and marginalized with the assistance of the media.

"They're just a bunch of cops, who do they think they are anyway?"

Kass's column was on the money. A good, hard right cross through shortshanks front teeth it was.

We can only hope the next column would be the left behind the ear for the finisher.

Hiya Sneed! Any little birdies chirping in your ear about hmm... well... you know... stuff lately? Like the whereabouts of the apple of your eye, Paddy-boy? Or is he still playing "Peek-A-Boo" with the Feds?

in his press conferance he goes to say there is nothing more he could do to secure a police parking lot, they have cameras. Just like all these blue light cameras, they do not do shit, they can not stop a person and there is no one watching them. Try to get in a secure garage dowtown at the Daley Center or at any company like Boeing or AON, impossible! Seems like these facilities can be seured but we have shit heads walking through all our garages and entering our buildings.

I noted this on my show and I hate talking politics during a time like this but..... Was it just me or did anybody else notice that the mayor and supt. were absent from the beginning of this tragedy? It took Weis two days to make a statement? Daley has yet to say anything? I know he is or was in Idaho but I am sure he was told of what happened.

Seems to me that because this can't be blamed on the Supreme Court or used to tout his handgun ordinances that Daley and Weis have nothing to say because this was just an act of out and out violence.

Once again, very sorry for your loss C.P.D.

Remember the Tact Officer in 14 that was shot once in the shoulder while conducting a street stop in Dec '09? The offender was shot once in the leg after a short foot chase and taken into custody.

Well, the trial was two weeks ago. The offender was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery to PO with a firearm and aggravated discharge.

The defense made the argument that the offender was only shooting in the officer's direction to scare him and their was no intent to murder the PO. The Cook County jury bought the argument and threw out the attempt murder charge but convicted on the other charges.

Where is the media to follow up on that story. Why isn't news affairs of the dept. not holding a press conference on this miscarriage of justice. And why isn't our union screaming about this to the media to make it a story?

It is bad enough that this city is so dangerous that off duty police officers are now being killed in our streets. But if a police officer can't get justice in our courtrooms, what chance does a regular citizen have.

Hey assholes in the media, I hope you are monitoring our blog for story ideas!

An Officers ultimate sacrifice means nothing to the media. Jordan's retirement overshadowed the murder of a police officer. I believe that officer was Knight.

Very few people truly understand that the policeman and soldier are the only ones who hold the line on complete choas taking over. You can love us or hate us but without us you would be indiscriminately raped, robbed, beat etc.. etc..

Officer Soderberg

You served your country in war time and served your city in war time, but most of all you served humanity through your unselfish acts. They don't make many like you anymore. God must have some great plans for us and you were chosen to help. That's the only way any of this makes sense. So many great men taken.

You talked the talk and WALKED the WALK. Most just talk the talk.

Rest in Peace Officer Soderberg.

Its the judges that set the tone of the laws that already in place. They are the ones who deem the laws to be enforceable. They and they only set those sentences. I was once on jury duty for a gun charge (he pointed a gun at an officer) and all the offender got was a slap on the wrist. NO jail time whatsoever! So, who set that sentence> Yeah....it was the judge once again. I guess what I am saying is in the event this person and others were sentence the way the laws reads, this should have never happened. And if the jails are over crowded.........built more or and bigger ones. Problem solved.

These are dangerous times for your safety, for your freedom, for your financial security. Do not let the outpouring of support for our slain officer fool you. This city still hates you and you should be very cautious when extending your hand to help people who hate you.

Dear scc: so I'm thinking that more police being hired is a longshot at best. That bear needs to be tackled by other than the officers because we are not taken seriously enough-we can't strike, we can't do blue flu because that would endanger the lives of officers. Work slowdown, there's no such thing. But maybe we should look this from another angle: the same shitheads are allowed by our judges and asa's to keep shitting on everyone day in and day out. There needs to be mandatory sentencing, truth in sentencing,, no parole, probation for certain offenses. These changes need to be made because the judges can't be trusted anymore. I firmly believe that the number of citizens that would support this would far outweigh the liberals that would not. What do you think? A grassroots oreganization to try and get the laws changed. It's not like we don't have the data to back us.

Jody dodged the security (or lack of issue) on the news this morning. In 025 alone we were told a few years back when the Abbatte incident happened at Branch 50 that we had no reason to block off are parking lot and its no big deal that peolple can see us as we enter or leave our personal vehicles. This controversey caused a good Captain to get launched and disciplined.

Flash forward a few years:

Local nut who walks into the building every morning talks to himself prior to being thrown out stole a City vehicle from the Streets and San lot on Grand Ave, and menbaced the area, driving on sidewalks and through a block party, prior to being stopped by the police and pulled from the auto before anyone was killed.

Just the other day a 25 tac officer leaving branch 50 was getting into his personal car when he was spotted by family of the offender and called out "get his plate number we'll fuck him up". THis fine member of the community was apprehended and charged with intimidation.

Many others have been arrested trying to remove their impounded vehicles from the lot which is hardly secured.

Bottom Line is infiltration of CPD facilities has already started to occur. i'm sure these scenarios play out all over the City as well.

We are not only increasingly targeted on the streets but off duty as well.Be safe. The asshats know we are stretched thin and in organizational chaos.Remember TARA, change up your routine, take identifiers off your vehicle. Don't let the JOs get the upper hand. Practice with your weapons. Let your first round be a lethal surprise.

GOd bless the fallen and those of us still doing the job.

The Kass article hit home. To me the death of this police officer was the most important event, but the media did not agree.

I'm not surprised. I am a CPS teacher. Our authority is constantly undermined and usually by those who have no experience in education /or never saw the inside of a classroom.

We try to teach these children respect for authority, self-control, and give them some basic knowledge.

Undermining our authority just sets the stage for the way they will behave in the future, with disregard and disrespect for the law and society.

Thank you to all Officers. THank you!

We can continue to ask for more training and funding but good luck with that! We are cannon fodder in the eyes of the liberal elitists. A police officer was attacked and killed steps from a police station for the 2nd time in recent memory for godsakes and a basketball player is front line news. This city is beginning to resemble Bogota, Columbia and we can thank this administration and all the other pandering politicians for this state of affairs. Don't look for help or sympathy from our rat bastard mayor nor his cronies, that would be politically counterproductive. We, collectivelly, know the face of evil. We experience it 1st hand everday. Those who aren't us only read about it in books and can't begin to fathom the level of savagery that exists beyond the well trimmed hedges of Millenium Park. Hold your heads high brothers in blue. Be proud of what you do and what you stand for regardless of whether recognition follows. We are what stands between what is decent versus what is the product of a rotten to the core, liberal political system which has emboldened certain classes of people to behave in the animalistic, predatory manner in which they do. Some day, god help us, you can relax in that rocking chair and wax poetic to your grandkids about your part in rescuing this city from impending doom (or at least resembling Detroit). Do it for you, your family and your fellow officer and don't ever expect an ounce of empathy. Those that don't do what we do or haven't seen what we've seen haven't a clue nor the intellectual capacity to give it. Stay alert and avoid complacency like the plague. Godspeed and bless thew souls of all our fallen brethren!

Jordan's return was the lead story that day when Dan was killed. As I recall, Michael Jordan noted this to his security (off duty CPD) . Jordan had his officers contact and get the family's phone number, he called the family apologized for this and made a sizable donation to the officer's family. I may be wrong but retired P.O. Joe R. can set the record straight on this. He still plays softball, I believe with the team from Area 2. Ask him.

Weis said there is simply no way of securing a police facility or stopping someone bent on hurting a person. Well ex-feeb I got news for you and the attorneys who will sue you and the city on behalf of the family. There is the Chicago FBI building on Roosevelt Rd. in the middle of the west side. Try getting on the property!! They have a visitor parking far away from the FBI agents parking lot and the main entrance. Then you have a security shack with TWO ARMED security guards, there you will be asked to state your reason for wanting access to the building. If you have legitimate business you have to be searched and wanned by security, oh and they have lovely gun boxes for your weapon if you a sworn police officer. Then you travel through a long walkway where you enter the building and encounter the receptionist behind a BULLET PROOF glass. You will have to log in, get a visitor ID card, and wait for a FBI agent to come down and escort you.
I wonder how may security breeches have occurred at the FBI building, agents attacked, or threatened in the parking lot? See there are ways to secure police facilities and parking lot! Dont you have connections at feeb headquarters? Cant you get some ideas from them? Hell any street copper will tell you you need seek advise from the federal government just go to any local suburban police facility and you can see how they keep their officers safe and most of these towns have law abiding citizens not bent on hurting their police officers. This city and department are a joke! To not have adequate lockers for visiting department members when requiring them to work away from their BIDDED assignment is bad enough. But to not have a SECURED PARKING LOT where you and the rest of the bosses know that officers have to change in and out of uniforms from the trunk of their vehicles is WRONG! That poor Officer got ambushed while changing and everyone in this department has had to do the same thing in their career because of the lack of lockers.
I challenge any reporter to try and breech any CPD building and then the FBI building, let us know which one you were able to breech. OH SHIT!!!!, I forgot one building within the CPD that wont be too easy to breech. CPD headquarters, a police officer at the parking lot gate, police officers at metal detection entrances, and officer's at the desk. Yes the safety of the Exempt Brass of the CPD is more important than the lowly bottom feeder Police Officers.

He was only charged with a misdemeanor what it should have been a three year sentence because the(Valadez law)

Richard Roeper wrote a column some years back essentially stating that all cops are bullies. On yesterday's WLS show he was talking as if he and PO Soderburg were best friends. He can truly Go Fuck Himself.

I have dealt with Richard over the past couple of years and I can say that richard is a true suporter of the police. He has donated money and has attended very many police benefits. So in my opinion you are wrong about Roeper.

Saturday evening after a police officer was murdered last Wednesday. Not one peep from our mayor, no words of support or condolences. None.

What does that tell you about our mayor?

All you ever need to know, that's what.

Sit outside Master's office for a week and look at the freaks that walk in. They walk out having put policies in place for our department because they are......"Friends of the Freak..."
He works off of these no-know-it-alls, and throws the patrolman to the curb.

Really, here's a question, are there security sign in sheets that are used for visitors? You'd be amazed at some of the freaks that Masters Masters Masters has befriended...
Sickening.
