Shots Fired At, By Police

Humboldt Park area:
  • Police exchanged gunfire with alleged gang members shooting at a Humboldt Park porch early Saturday on the West Side.

About 2 a.m., officers saw gang members firing shots at a porch at 1400 N. Campbell Ave. and a chase ensued, according to police. During the pursuit, one of the gang members fired at least one shot at an officer, who returned fire, police said.

Nobody was wounded in the exchange with police, but a person on the porch was taken to Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said.
Be careful.

OT: i came across this little gem in my web meanderings and just had to share...

A Whole Lot Of Shaking Going On In Courtroom

November 9, 1990
With pulsating pelvises, two male police officers wrapped their legs around a microphone stand and got down on all fours and shook their posteriors at a jury. The performance Wednesday was intended to mimic the movements of female dancers at the ChippenDolls nightclub. The officers hoped to offend the jurors and persuade them that the dancing was obscene. Instead, they made the jurors smile and drew laughter from courtroom spectators. The jury began deliberations Thursday. The trial of Jennie Davis, 24, was expected to help establish the standards of obscenity in Richland County.

mr mayor and mr weiss , chicago needs more police officers on the street . realign the districts , close 4 districts and you will have approx 200 more officers available to work beat cars.
100 more sgts , 28 lts and 8 captains + 4 less commanders .

close districts without lock ups
12, 13 , 21 , 23 . give us the manpower for 2 man cars .
it's your responsibility as superintendent to cut waste in the CPD . God help us .

Yeah, well I think the police shoot pretty good considering we dont even get a full box of ammo, or even shoot a full box to qualify anymore. If we confiscate ammo, can we keep it? The department does, I know some units in cpd are using confiscated ammo to train with - that's a factoid. HUH HUH HUH?

and what do you think those districts will magicaly disapear and do not need police service? You should work in the policy group. Idiot. The answer is for the city to hire more POs.

Nice one, you downtown clown.

Closing stations WILL NOT alleviate the the severity of the manpower crisis. 3,000+ police officers dwon and going up.

Those beats still need to be manned on the closed stations and consolidating stations will require bigger locker rooms, larger roll call rooms, additional inside personnel, etc.

The only solution to the crisis is to start mass hirings, like in the early 90's.

Give it time, the shotcallers have had free rein for awhile. 014 isnt what it used to be, too many milquetoast officers, not enough asskickers.

OK Einstein let's go down your list, 012 has a higher population density w/ all the condos, higher even w/ the Ablas gone. 013 same situation, on your copper salary you couldn't afford property in Wood St. 21 University of Chicago, unless they pick up & leave 021 stays. 023 They're building a new station on Halsted right now? So before you shoot off your bazoo, Try driving around the city, this time w/o your head up your Ass!!

You're joking right? You must work in one of the aforementioned useless districts. All those districts could easily be absorbed by other district. 021 could easily be by taken over by a MUCH slower 002. 012 and 013 (not the same 012 and 13, both districts only 3 beats a sector) could easily be absorbed by 010, 011, and 014.

True the areas still have to be manned. But not like in the 80s or 90s. Look at 004, I think 411's beat is as big as 013! Or look at 008! Those are the districts we have to worry about; not 012, 013 etc.

You sound like one of Daley's civilians on this Department. Close the Districts and let the P.O.s drive forever to get to their Beats. Centralize everything so we drive across town to do our job.

Do you have any concept of the down time just to gas the cars now? Think about a cross town drive just to get to your Beat, not to mention your assist cars will be spread all over the place. No sir. That is a terrible idea, but, I'm only talking from 3 decades of experience. Just hire more P.O.s. You know that is the real solution.

Yeah like 010 and 011 aren't busy enough as it is, you want them to absorb entire districts? 013 is dead, no arguments there, but 012? radio-wise it is slow, but there is plenty going on there, they just had 10 shot in the past 2 weeks, that's ALOT for a "slow district", it also has too much politics; greektown, taylor st, pilsen and the UIC Campus, it's not going anywhere, they already broke ground on the new station.

If they keep 013 open it should extend it's boundaries west to Pulaski; 012 shoulld extend west to California, south to blue island-26th to pick up parts of 010 and 011. It's a start.
