- An additional 600 Chicago Police officers will be on duty Sunday to help accommodate demands at Taste of Chicago and the city's three lakefront fireworks shows, Police Supt. Jody Weis said on Saturday.
Then J-Fled is fluffing for Shortshanks, who seems to be mysteriously silent:
Chicago's top cop on Friday sought to reassure the public that his force could maintain order at the Taste of Chicago over the weekend, a day after three people were stabbed near the festival.
"For the first six days this has been a terrific event," said Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis. "Last night things got a little bit out of hand, and we were able to quickly bring it back into line."
Sources said Weis plans to beef up the police presence during the afternoon shift Sunday, the last day of the Taste, and for the fireworks on the lake. The sources said all officers who normally work that shift -- including some who had been scheduled to have the day off -- will be working and in uniform, including some plain-clothes detectives. Police spokesman Roderick Drew would only say that there will be "additional resources . . . throughout the city.''
And does anyone have the numbers so far for shootings/killings? The over/under was 40 shot/7 dead and we heard its right on pace. Vegas didn't consider stabbings though.

Why do the citizens of Chicago, the Mayor and that fucked up representative of ours Jodi Weis think it is okay to say, this is what we signed up for, so fuck our families, holidays and days off! Guess what, our children want to see fireworks and see their fathers! My wife does like to see me at home for a holiday, especially after I missed most of them for 20 years!
How come we can't have a bad day or not feel good, which may happen to be a holiday! I have worked the street 22 straight fucking years so I don't have to work a fucking holiday! Then you get pissed because I would prefer to be with my family! What the fuck?
Back to this is what we signed up for! When I signed up I signed up for reasonable raises, I signed up for support from the Mayor, the Superintendent (who is the police, not a federal agent with no knowledge of street level policing) and citizens and media that at least respected the police.

*To be sued just because I can be
*To be forced to work for 8 police officers every single day because we are so fucking short
*To risk my life with this piece of shit gun we are allowed to carry and the dope boys have heavy artillery
*To watch the department be run by incompetent people with absolutely NO law enforcement experience like Jodi Weis, Mike Masters, Peter Brust, a Policy Group who all together do not have more time put together than me, to watch people like Commander Kevin Ryan run an elite unit when he never worked a real ghetto district in his career; he was the fucking Commander of one of the best Districts in CPD, I use to work there, I know!

In actuality SCC the taste has ran smoothly so far with the exception of two days. The first time the problems occurred was when the performers were Rob Base, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Salt-n-Pepa, Bell Biv Devoe. The second time there were HUGE problems was when WGCI provided the entertainers Teairra Mari, and Trey Songz. In both instances the audiences were predominately black with the latter of the two having a mostly young black audience. The problems that occurred could only be solved one way- not having performers that are going to draw large crowds of young black kids. Even if the entire police department were assigned to the Taste we would have been outnumbered and problems would have occurred. There were fights from Michigan to Clark, and from Roosevelt to Wacker. Now some ,like the Mayor, might argue that there would have been problems on the other days too if all the suburban kids weren't at the beaches texting and causing problems there. Or some will say I'm just an ignorant racist rather than stating the truth. And still others will try to blame the police. But please then explain to me why all the other days went so smoothly when there was a mix of people -not a predominately young black crowd?

Money can't always compensate for time with your family. I'd be very pissed if I had to cancel plans for time off because the politicians don't know how to run a police department. At least you will be paid handsomely for your inconvenience. You deserve it.

Hopefully today they will have figured out who had the bad radio last night (3 July) and remove it from service for tonight. Yesterday for most of the 3rd Watch, CW6 was hammered with a repeatedly clicking open key. OEMC knew the radio number, but apparently none of the units fill out a radio sign-out log any more and they couldn't figure out who had been issued that radio.
And how many more times tonight will the idiots working CTA special employment come in on CW6 asking for an EV# for 95th and the red line or for a wagon at 87th Street? How fucking difficult is it to check your own radio BEFORE you leave the station to make sure you're on the correct channel?

I am black and I agree with the poster who stated the only problem days were the days we had a larger black crowd. The only thing you did not point out is the fact that most of the white officers that are assigned have never had any positive or had little positive contact with anyone in the black community other than those they work with. They grew up in their white neighborhoods, went to their white schools, went to white stores, went to white churches, watched over the years how the media and a few ignorant black folks have solidified the stereotype of blacks and they are then sent to the Taste to deal with a black crowd. Guess what, black families and kids want to be safe also! The 5% of people of any race that raise havoc down here do it every day. These young white officers are basically afraid of the stereotype of the average Taste going black and what may happen! They over react, become too vocal, become too aggressive to make their point and then it starts. Blacks are taught to fear and stay away from the police because of the historical perceptions and actions. Believe me, they are all scared of you!
Though I am retired, I work security at the Taste ever single year. I have seen the most biased actions imaginable. I think in some instances, a lot of confrontations can be avoided by adding a little respect to the conversation and police demands! The majority of blacks hate to see ignorant blacks just as much as you do!

Citywide 4 is C4

Feel free to cut & paste this channel line-up and put it in your FOP book or somewhere you'll be able to refe to it, rather than play "Spin the Dial and Guess the Zone/Citywide"

He tried to learn at some point, but you either have the heart to be the police or you don't. He does not have the heart to do what needs to be done. --I am white and I do agree with this most times. But as you know, nothing works all the time. I try to pull someone away from a group and talk to them like I would talk to anyone else. I do think they respect the fact that you showed them some courtesy & respect. Most times after a few minutes, they will do what you ask.
