You See This? This is a Contract

Does everyone remember when J-Fled came to town? He was just a little J-Fed then, but he didn't hesitate in making some serious errors.

First, he dismissed a while bunch of exempts. He told them their services weren't needed any more. So the exempts said, "OK, where do we go tomorrow?" J-Fled was amazed to find out that there was such a thing as "career service rank" that the exempts had to be returned to so they could continue to be the police.

Then there were the times when he and his contract-ignorant staff issued orders and directives that had to be rescinded days later when it was explained that there was a contract in effect that forbade certain things without speaking to the FOP.

Now, as Shaved points out in a post, the mere fact that the Department called people at home on their off hours and canceled their days off, then recalled a bunch of them and canceled the cancellations, entitles you to fill out a Time Due slip for OT. The city will probably end up fighting this and the FOP should grieve it (and win), but it shows once again, the inability of this department administration to operate within the bounds of the contract. The cost of keeping the peace this weekend is going to be astronomical - and this is an event that had been running smoothly for years, even decades.

You mean he thought he was firing them? As in no job, dismissed, unemployed? He was willing to ruin their lives without even meeting them?

Weisy----
"rearranging" the department days after he was hired was the biggest bitch move in the history of the CPD.

A real leader would have sat back and tried to figure out what was going on and who was who. I recall he used a sports analogy about a coach shaking up a team.

Not surprisingly many of the highest ranking people who got canned also competed to be Superintendent.

Between that and his work trying to railroad FBI agent Wright I knew Jody would be a failure.

His actions against whistleblower Wright border on the treasonous. That man was trying to point out FBI mistakes regarding the 9/11 attacks.

Jody Weis, the ultimate company suckhole. Maybe BP can deploy Weis to the gulf and place that big suckhole head of his on that oil well. Put a straw in his ear to a container ship above.

When J-Fled leaves he can get a job as Elmer Fudds partner. Elmer can teach him how to "Hunt Wabbits" !

Wabbits don't shoot back. He'll have no reason to run away.

"You See This? This is a Contract"
---

The reason for all the miscues and fuck ups is that no one down there knows what they are doing. It isn't just the commanders who were dumped that caused the brain drain.

Many PO's and Sgt's who had been doing the real work at HQ for years and had knowledge of the contract and department procedures were unceremoniously dumped with no replacement trained and their jobs going unfilled.

Then, when issues came up everyone had to make shit up because the person who did that particular thing was gone and no one was trained to take over.

Imagine Iraq and regime change and throwing everyone who knew how to run thing out of work. those new people who came in had to guess as to how things were done.

jfled did that to the police department, him and masters and the rest. The new brain trust thought they could run the police department by edict and fax. It didn't work out too well. There were rules and procedures in place for years, jfled just didn't know any of them.

you don't just pick someone out of thin air to run a dysfunctional organization like the CPD, this is not a standardized well run police department. We do things here that are done nowhere else in the country. jfled learned that. The hard way.

Imagine what a policeman of less than three years on the job knows about the police department, and jfled isn't a policeman and never went through the training we all went through and that guy is running things.

That is why things are so fucked up. In 25 years jfled might be settled into the job and might know something. In the meantime, it is on the job training with lives and property in the balance.

Now why isn't this a grievance?

These hours suck anyway for midnights, working half the third watch. Now comes his, I think we should be getting holiday time for working tonight.

One of them left the meeting saying he called them 'dinosaurs' and said they didn't fit into his vision for the CPD's future.

If he meant incompetence and cluelessness, then he was right. Those were guys who didn't fit the description.

Didn't a bunch of youth dicks get huge checks because Weis violated the contract on some detail or transfer with them? He just doesn't get it.

The civilian exempts on this job don't have the first clue. Even when the contract is pointed out to them, they neither understand nor care that it must be followed. Just ask all those Tracey Ladner fans out there.

Yes, he actually thought that he was firing them. He didn't understand that they all had career service positions to return to. The man is still clueless after 2 1/2 years. Of course, keep in mind that he never really had any intention of being a "superintendent." He figured he'd come in, clean house, let the cops run the place, and get out.
He's both stupid AND evil.

RE street experience: that's the problem in this dept. Everyone in some sort of high administrative spot is a suck-ass merit who merit-ed their way up or should I say sucked their way into their positions AND they HAVE NO FU*CKIN CLUE!!!
Get some people in charge, people making the decisions who have police street smarts, not someone who has been 4-5 years and have been inside all the time.

I for one would love to see something publicly done to honor Jane Byrne while she is still breathing.

Maybe name FOP Hall the Jane Byrne FOP Hall. That way, every time some reporter covers a statement by the FOP President or something similar he can say "And I am here at the Jane Byrne FOP Hall at 1412 W Washington."

I would love to see the steam come pouring out of daley's ears and nostrils at that one! "they did WHAT! Argfh2#%$$@%&#%^@#!!!"

Oh that would be a good one all right!

If I had my way...,

Daley would be in a Louisiana Fed Cell and Bill Cozzi would be Free.

I'd rename Millennium Park after Jane Byrne (that would give Shorty a stroke.)

Weis, Master and Brust would be assigned to Call Back on midnights
(just to keep watch on them.)

Boeing would be designing a state of the art urban air/water travel hub for Meiggs Field.

The Daley Crime family fortune would be seized to pay the city's pension debt.

Every Chicago Cop, and everyone that every Chicago Cop knows will be registered and will vote in the upcoming elections.

Daley's Gun Law will be scraped and will be replaced by something simple, like an acknowledgement of the 2nd Amendment.

I could go on, why don't you add yours.
