Today, Daley was asked whether he’s hoping all of the requirements put together would discourage people from buying and registering guns.
“No, no. If people want to have a handgun, they [can] have a handgun,” the mayor said.
But, he added, “If you go in the military, they have months and months of instruction. The Chicago Police Department has months and months of instruction to fire a handgun. Handguns are used to kill people. When you take a gun and point it at somebody, you have to kill that person in your home. … That’s why instructions are so important.”
Wow. Just wow. And this is the Mayor of Simpleton.
As for his insistence he isn't making gun owners jump through hoops, he and has city council have banned gun shops, banned gun ranges, and expects you to come up with $100 in addition to tuition fees for a "safety course."

So Dictator Daley wants all this BS training just to own a gun that a person can have in their home. He says the military, the police etc. all have training. So how much training did the aldermen go through after they voted to allow themselves to conceal carry a firearm in public? Now, I'm no constitutional scholar, unlike the POTUS(lol) and I doubt Shortshanks has ever read it considering how many times he flunked the bar exam, but since when in the USA do we have to pay the government a fee in order to exercise a constitutional right? Taxes and some fees I can understand and accept IF they are justified and effective towards a legitimate purpose. Gun registration? In 28 years on the CPD I have never heard of any crime being solved or prevented because of this ordinance. All it served was to discourage honest citizens from exercising a right. The new ordinance is no different. But, what do I know? I've spent my entire career in patrol, in uniform, answering calls, mostly on the 1st watch(and not sleeping, thank you very much). Do I want to know the fact that a gun is in the house when I respond to a call? Not important. As others have posted, I know there is at least one gun there because it's on my belt and I always assume that there may be another gun there. Staying alert and watching hands has served me very well for all these years. As evidenced by the murder of PO SODERBERG and way too many coppers killed with their own weapons, there are no guarantees in life. I didn't know him but all reports I've heard about him state that he was in great physical shape and not someone you would expect would be overpowered by some shithead. Sometimes life is just a crapshoot, especially if the one throwing the dice is an unincarcerated POS who ambushes someone from behind.

Training is good for 1st time gun owners. It helps them learn the safety of handling a firearm properly.If someone comes in your home without your permission...do what you have to do!! Take I-90 out to Cabelas@rt59 or go up to Bass Pro in Gurnee. There's a couple stores off Rt 30 in Plainsfield W of I-55 also. Maxon's in DesPlaines isn't bad either and they have a range on site. The ISRA has a range in Bonfield but you have to be a member. There's Shooter's Sports Center in Racine, WI, they sell firearms in addition to their range and they have IDPA and IPSC matches also.
To the civilian poster asking about purchasing guns. Don't buy one around here. The gun stores here will rip you off. Way too high with their prices.Google whatever weapon you want to purchase and buy it on line. You will need of course, a FFL here to finish the sale but you will find out that you will save alot of money buying on line. If you MUST buy in prson here, I find that Ray O'Herron out in Oak Brook seems to be a little more honest than the rest. Better at least than buying in Lincolnwood.

Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops are WAY out of line with their gun prices. They are good places to sample various weapons as far as fit and finish goes but I would NEVER buy a gun at either one of them.
