Security Step #1

Here's a bit of free advice for J-Fled and the Policy Group (hey, that's a catchy name for a band!):
  • Create and enforce an order that forbids the homeless from camping out in stations.
These people don't belong in police facilities. Yeah, we know the mayor has declared police stations "warming centers." And lord knows what these zombies bring into stations - TB, hepatitis, lice, scabies, all manner of parasitic infestation and pathogens of all shapes and sizes. And that's not even taking into consideration their mental states, many of whom are full blown schizophrenic or bi-polar or full-on-nut-cases.

How many votes does the Bum Union actually control that their executive board has to camp out in police lobbies all the time?

I recall a few years ago while working in 007, a guy shinning shoes. He was a skinny m/1, late 20's or early mid 30's in age. He would be outside the roll call room, in the halls or outside the building and all with permission from someone supposedly. Finally someone took it upon themselves to look this guy up which revealed a lenthy rap sheep.

Well just tonight as I am walking into the academy for a class, guess who I see near the front doors shinning shoes? This same asshole that I saw in 007. I thought to myself how much of a slap in the face it is especially since we just los one of our own do to a security issue.

I hope anyone working at the academy does something about this guy and orders him off the property. And if he has permission, why would a career criminal be allowed to set up shop in what should be a secure facility?

Several people have walked into the AREA 2 police station with guns in plastic bags wanting to register them. The desk turned them away. What I want to know is were those guns loaded? Now it is really getting scary. There is a rumor going around that the honest joe citizen believes since Chicago has this new gun ban lifted, they can bring the guns out in public to the police stations to register them. Good grief.

7/12/2010 10:51:00 PM

SOMEONE, AND I MEAN SOMEONE BETTER LOOK INTO THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. JUST TODAY, WE WERE TOLD THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THE SOUTHSIDE HAVE BEEN BRINGING GUNS INTO THE STATIONS TO GET THEM REGISTERED. THE CITIZENS ARE CONFUSED ABOUT THIS INFORMATION AND THINK THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM BRINGING THEIR HANDGUNS INTO THE STATION. AND THERE IS NO BULLETPROOF GLASS IN THE STATIONS TO STOP THE IGNORANT CITIZENS GOOF-UPS. WHAT A MESS. STUPID PEOPLE WITH GUNS NOW.

If Dictator Daley gave a fuck about us he would have built the new stations like all the suburbs and the rest of the departments across the country with tight security. Now get for his BS speach to the fallen officer's family trying to act like he cares for 1 hour. He will just read from his copy of all his other speaches but change the names.

The Mayor values the Bum Vote more than he does the Police Vote.

Each Schitzo can vote a many times as her or she has personalities.

The cost of the Ripple and chicken for the homeless has gone up but at least they can be counted as they are all regestered at their shelter or local public park.

The Police Vote would be too costly, decent raises, equipment, morall backing and all the rest just cost too much for a group that only votes 25% of the time.

Next election we need to dump Shorty, the Messiah and all the rest. We need to make the politicians FEAR US.

I have a real problem with the TMA's having unfettered access to pretty much the entire 001 district. I guarantee there are some IR numbers scattered in there, not to mention how many relatives that have been locked up. In and out the back door only, and they need to install another secure door in the hallway before traffic and central D.(away from the sinkhole) Then change the codes for all the doors.
And along those same lines, they carry the same radios as we do(CW7), what's to say that momma won't come back one day after telling her supervisor she got "robbed" and they took my radio.

Ah......no. Just because a building is built with public funds does not automatically give a person the right to be there. If you have business there, that's one thing. But if you decide that you just want to camp out because you feel like it then that's an entirely different matter. If you are asked to leave and you refuse then you are trespassing and could be arrested and charged.

That's because ShortShanks wants us to be the warm and fuzzy police.

He wants his city to operate on an OPEN DOOR POLICY. Give his constituents access to everything. Well, everything but the Mayor's office. Oh, and try and get in touch with one of the 50 thieves and you could die of old age.

A previous poster stated that if a public building is built with public funds, then anyone can gain access, regardless of where they come from or what mental status they seem to have.

Do you seriously think this would be the case if it involved the Mayor or an aldercreature?

I guess the rules are different since I've handled many calls at the local aldercreature's office. Moore must have a direct line to the commanders office because the job will come from the desk crew. Many times I have answered calls there with his staff wanting someone removed because they were causing a scene.

A few years ago, I had occasion to walk into the Blue Island police station ON DUTY IN FULL UNIFORM. The "lobby" was about 20'x20' with 2 benches and a pay phone. That's it! I spoke to the woman behind the bulletproof glass, and told her who I was there to see and was told to take a seat an that the Officer would have to come out to get me. Although I was in uniform working, I had to be escorted back by the Officer I was there to meet.
Why can't we have that protection??

12.43 is nuts after retiring I moved out of state to a small city. If you go into the police station during normal business hours its like going into a currency exchange (window with a clerk behind it). There is no place to sit, or loiter. If you need a report they direct you to a phone in the hallway, you call 911 and wait outside for a police car. If its on the weekend or non business hours there is a phone outside on the wall and you call inside then wait outside until an officer comes outside or drives up. At no time are you allowed inside the station.

Then continued into the review office, knocking shit off desks and threatening bodily harm. Dude had to be tazed by a sergeant, then "involuntarily admitted" for the 72 hours as allowed by law. Came back into the station on the fourth day talking shit AGAIN.

The ONLY good thing that might have come out of this deal was that dude could've stormed into Henny Penny's office and fucked her up, too. Ooops, my bad. She was still fighting her case at that time. Too bad he didn't make it in to that office, Aguinaga would've killed him.

There are some legitimate security measures that can be taken without appearing unduly hostile, or even spending all that much money.

But coming up with the funds to secure all the parking lots is not going to be trivial.

It's been a long time since I have been by a CPD station but it seems to me that at least a couple of them used alleyways for at least some parking and access. You can't just close an alleyway off real easily most of the time. I seem to recall a couple of them had remote lots as well. How do you provide a secure corridor from a remote lot to the station house? All that would do is provide a known place where cops are forced to pass by to get to the station.

Yea, but thre is security issues at hand. How many bums are sleeping in the lobby at the fed building? This is a Public Building, too. How many bums sleeping in front of city hall or sleep or laying around in the vestibule at city hall or the county building during the day? NONE. Why should the police stations allow this? It's called loitering. There are plenty of shelters in the city that allow this. It IS a safety issue for everyone...police and citizens who come in. And, unfortunately, many homeless do have mental issues and many of them fail to take medicine to control their urges, many which are violent and are out of control. It is a safety issue for everyone.

If you see something enough times, you're going to get jaded. There's no escaping that. If you're accustomed to shitheads wandering in and out of police parking lots, encountering them will not trigger the readiness condition that it probably should. After all, you see it every day, again and again and again because the assholes in City Hall allow this nonsense to go on...

A good initial step is to pass an ordinance that allows CPD to demarcate areas of their station houses and grounds as no trespassing, under penalty of law.

Mark them however you may- signs, big red lines painted on the ground- whatever. This way, when there is absolutely, positively no question that the person who has crossed that line is a) informed that they should not be there and b) breaking an actual law in doing so- there won't be any casual reactions to their presence. They will be recognized as trespassers and a potential threat, handcuffed and marched into a fucking jail cell where they belong.

You'd be amazed what a big red line, a few bold-lettered signs and a statute to back them up can accomplish. There are Federal Prison Camps that don't even have fences- just this.

Will it stop a determined attacker? Of course not, however, it will harden the mentalities of the officers so they know that anyone in those areas has made a conscious decision to trespass and may be a real threat, as opposed to some clueless asshole walking to the store...

On the same note, they need to stop letting all the assholes in 007 go in and take a piss/shit in the bathrooms. Lock those bathrooms up and give the key when a witness or victim needs to use it.

Public buildings paid for with public funds.. Everyone has the right to take a seat in a public building regardless of where they come from or what mental status they seem to have. You of all people should know this. Let's not get out of hand with this..

Yeah... try that argument at the White House.

Are you talking about Frosty? Sure sounds like him. Maybe not, nonetheless Frosty use to always be in 003 roaming the halls. Finally someone pinched him with crack and he hasn't been seen since. I always didn't trust that guy. Don't know why other POs did.

I remember Frosty from back when I was in 005 about 5 or 6 years ago. Geeez, that guy makes the rounds.

Could go the Northern Ireland Police station route.
Scroll to the bottom. http://drakkin.com/Koln/Belfast.html
That is not a prison that is a standard police station. No chairs or benches there. Oh and check out the armored vehicle for regular use NOT special missions.
