IPRA Busy Tonight

  • A person was shot in a police-involved shooting early this morning in the South Side's West Englewood neighborhood, marking the second police-involved shooting within about 5 hours, according to officials.

About 12:14 a.m., gunfire was exchanged between police and at least one suspect near the intersection of West 65th Street and South Seeley Avenue, according to [a] spokesman with the Independent Police Review Authority.

One person, believed to be the person who fired on police, was shot, Tarver said. No officers were shot, he said.

All officers reportedly OK in both incidents.

Big changes to Officer's rights when dealing with IPRA went into effect 01-AUG-10. Grievances files already. IPRA wants a statement within 2 hours of a shooting and wants it on tape. IPRA claims you are a "witness" at your own shooting, so you have witness rights. FOP says you have 48 hours and no recording. This may be the end of the round table. Grievances supposedly expedited. This was all done between FOP and city negotiating team. Bosses department wide are in "what the fuck" mode. They had no knowledge of any of this. Bosses are now required to order you to give a statement. All at a great time when we've basically lost our 5th amendment rights. Ilana Rosenzweig has been running this thing for three years and hasn't found a dirty shooting yet. She is determined to get a copper's scalp before she moves on to the next big money job.

In this day and age, always carry a pistol on the street that is at least a .40cal, a .45 is better. Have extra mags too.

The bad guys don't seem to give a shit, they think life is like a "gangsta" video and that "Thuglife" is a mantra.

They'll go down in a blaze of gunfire just to prove their manhood, taking a copper with them is icing on the cake.

It's time to embarrass Daley while he is in his phony election mode persona. The streets are getting ridiculously dangerous for the police. It is time for another march around city hall demanding new leadership. Jfed, the morons appointed by the clergy and the rest of these civilians (Masters,Masters,Masters) need to go. Let's not let our horseshit leadership cost another police officer's life.

I have been reading this pathetic banter on wrong doings and unfairness in the department for too long. Its tiring to see all this effort in creating even more moral loss by creating a "Jerry Springer" environment, rather than taking legal action or alternative responces to a political machine as corrupt as some of our current government offices. (the capitalist system works the offices dont)

We have built a society based on tiresome and costly litigation favoring corporations, disgrunted offenders, conceding to payoffs to organizations and individuals who shun personal liability due to pre-conceived benefit schemes of disability, or bias of any type that would be lucrative.

A system that is to afraid in sentencing, creating a penal system designed to appear as rehabilitation rather than punishment.

A crime is a violation of someones civil right, therefore a crime is in a sense an act of treason, and they have denied those same rights lawbiding citizen have .... they no longer should have rights.

No books, no movies, no gym, no voting. just a cell. then perhaps the "cool" stigma of jail wont be as pretty to the uneducated criminal morons. If they riot and kill each other or burn their beds they need not worry about laundry day for the rest of their sentence.

Yes, because of this the order of caution is and will be this:

you and your partners -

1. Safety
2. Legal (Civil) Safety
3. Dept. Safety
4. Citizen Safety

With lawsuits, public attitude, policy ... etc., We cant hero parachute into situations like we used to, its painful, but we must let the "Cause and Effect" change or environment.

We must however continue to enforce law with a hard hand and no less...tickets, arrests without discretion ... then there is no room for "Ifs". And your defense is ironclad.

Stay Safe .. Train Constantly.

from Friday 0001hrs - sunday 1200hrs

19 shooting incidents that resulted in 24 victims being hospitalized, of which two homicides.

67th kedzie- 1 incident - 3 shot
18th carpenter- 1 incident- 2 shot
88th Princeton -1 incident - 2 shot
4800 W Wellington - 1 incident - 2 shot

so, when they tell you agg batts are down
they are counting not only the number of incidents BUT they also include all other IUCR codes for agg batt including other dangerous weapons and with knives, etc...

So all agg bats that start with IUCR "04" are SUMMED together.

You can't be recorded without your consent unless you are the suspect in a murder or a case that may become a murder. Refuse the recording. If some boss is stupid enough to order you to abrogate your rights, document it and request counsel. Ask if you are suspected of a crime. Get a definite yes or no before you give a statement. They will try to buffalo you just like we do with the mutts. Don't fall for it. You may take some heat, but in the long run they can't violate the law either. Or you can just whine and moan on the blog and do as you are told.

For those of you readers out there, my Capt referred a book called, "The Devil in the White City" in reference to the 1893 World's Fair that was hosted in Chicago. It's an amazing read about Chicago and leading up to the fair, which occurred in the area of Jackson Park. The book involves a serial killer, politics, and how the fair came about! Some of the comments made back then still apply now. I'll give one example, "I will never return to such a city (Chicago), why it is full of savages!"

OT --- was anyone at the airshow today (Sunday)? We saw an Aer Lingus 747 intrude the Blue Angels' airspace and make a sharp turn to retreat. WBBM reported that the Blue Angels almost stopped the show after that. Other commerical aircraft was too close. What was the deal? Normally no commercial jets can be seen during the program. There has been no more news coverage regarding this situation.

Many of us saw that also. Someone really fucked up. Commercial planes were flying low over the lake and city following their normal landing pattern into O'Hare. We couldn't believe it. The Blue Angles show was much shorter than their show on Sat. and I'm sure that was the reason.

Regarding the post wondering about 2523. You must not be a police officer. If you are, you can't be liked by many of your fellow officers. Maybe they were driving a witness or victim home. Maybe they were following up on a job. What you should be concerned about is the lack of a life you lead because you're worried about something that is none of your business.
