The Lt. Saga Continues

The Huffington Post does a follow-up, keeping the story alive for the weekend news cycle. Quoting from the Tribune article:
  • There is a serious First Amendment issue here," said Sheldon Nahmod, a constitutional law and civil rights professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Nahmod said free speech law should permit Andrews to post his comments without discipline as long as he's speaking as a public citizen and out of public concern, rather than simply airing personal grievances.

"(Andrews) was griping about the morale of the Police Department in general, the support it's getting from its supervisors, superiors and from politicians, and that's not the same thing as a personal gripe," Nahmod said.

It sure seems that J-Fled and his minions have stepped in some serious crap here. And it ain't over yet as we're hearing.

I heard that sometime when Lt. Andrews showed up at IAD he was surprised to be greeted by J-Fled. Supposedly J-Fed asked him to recant his remarks. After a brief pause from the Lt. J-fed demanded the Lt "pretty pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top recant the statements please!". The Lt. got up and left and as the elevator doors closed he heard J-Fled cry "I'll get you and your family for this!"

Add georgas to the mix of non-ethics. Here we have the ADS of SFG auctioning off tours of the marine unit as well as "ride a longs" as fundraisers for his kids school. It's been going on for a while since he was originally assigned and now his secretary KK has it going on too. Money goes directly to the school (wink, wink)he just sends the people there without the real background info and expects it to be done. Of course it's always a "favor" too bad the people are talking about their auction purchase to the guys on the boats. How many other "tours" are being sold off? What other units are involved. Inquiring minds want to know

**OFF TOPIC** (but on my mind)

Regarding the off-duty shooting the other day at 79th/loomis. First off, great work officer, and I am greatful you went home in one piece.

That being said, the last few off-duty officers to be murdered were at 74th/evans, at 83rd/king drive, and in 011. I understand most officers are not rich people, as I am not myself either. HOWEVER, we make decent enough money that we don't have to live in a LEVEL II DOC, or dine in a district's VIOLENCE ZONE. By the grace of G*d, you go home safely, but your taste for barbecue could have just as easily cost us another HONORS FUNERAL.

Please brothers and sisters, im tired of burying people I consider family. Want some BBQ? "the patio" on Harlem, or "the pit" on Roberts road probably have better BBQ than the place on 79th street, and you don't quite have to worry so much about the possibility that around the next corner you might have to engage in a GUN BATTLE which might just cost you your life.

Now its time for me to get off my soap box.....

I predict the CR will be sustained with punishment only at the level of a reprimand. Then, this will go away for both sides. In today's world there's no way that Lt. JA would lose if this went to civil court. He spoke on behalf of the safety of the citizens and public servants, about real public issues; not about state secrets. No court wants to stifle cogent, free speech. The press has demonstrated that his well thought out opinion resonates with the public. Politically (and isn't this the prime motivator in Chicago) to pursue the Lt. in earnest, is to risk the 'story' getting even more traction, and embarrassing the administration in both predictable, and unpredictable ways. Better by far to do nothing, it usually works best.

Frank GROSS, is a BAD BOY!!!

Lil Frank, who is the liaison between the CPD and the Movie industry (Transformers) took a side job with them at $3,000.00 a day. Ethical Frank, netted $30,000.00, AND got his two daughters (or sisters not sure which one) a consulting job with Transformers.

Frank took two weeks off to work his side job with the Blessing of J-Fed.

Does anyone see a problem here?

By the way Frank controls all of the assignments to the movie detail. Only friends (or kickbacks) need apply.

Who is the only Lieutenant working the movie detail even though Lt.s are not eligible?

Now, I wonder why Josie left the office, is she worried about the possibility of a CR investigation or worse, an indictment?

Will Josie talk under oath? I Don't think it will take that much to get her to talk, she likes her freedom and employment.

There is a list of officers and a Sgt. trying to get out of that unit, but Frankie won't let them go.

If any of this hits the paper Frank and J-Fed are sunk.

Ethics? wo needs stinking Ethics!!!

How about loop Segway or lakefront bike tours.
Maybe be a fox hunt in Jackson park.

Remember, da mare says, "think out if the box."

ADS Georgas IS NOT "selling tours". He's showing kids and groups, such as the Boy Scouts, the many facets of law enforcement including the Marine Unit. He's presenting a positive image of the department to kids and adults alike. We need the positive PR people. The kids love it. For God's sake the guy is volunteering his time for kids. I know of only one other exempt who volunteers his time at Old St. Pats church. What's wrong with you people. He's one of the few exempts who actually cares. And no iam not related to him nor do I work for him.

Based on Bart v. Telford 677 F.2d 622 (7th Circuit 1982), Chief Judge Richard Posner wrote that ANY infingement by the defendant(s), even minimal, is in violation of plaintiff's First Amendment rights under 42 USC 1983.

If John Andrews is even reprimanded by the City, he should sue.

Dear bleeding heart:

Can we bring the scouts and "groups" to the areas and show them the interview rooms with peeling paint and graffiti? How about the ceiling tiles that have been falling down for years? How about the cracked toilets and sinks that don't work along with whatever is drippling from the ceiling down the walls? Check out the nicely stained, holed and worn chairs police personnel sit on. How about a squad car with over 120,000 miles on it with fred flinstone holes in the floor that the rats crawl through? How about showing them a 2-man squad car on afternoons and nights (ooops, that is non-existent)...can't show that.

Not as glamorous as the marine unit, but very real.

ps
You can also show the scouts and the "groups" the new predictive analysis unit, aka the crystal ball unit, and explain to them that they too can become the police and in 4 years make exempt rank raking in 150K a year and just ignore the above stated problems/needs/disrepair of the dept.

sign me,

Georgas selling boat tours?

Mr. By The Book?

He's a creep.

We saw him hiding in one of the doorways at City Hall with a pen and note pad during the No Confidence March last year.

He was apparently poaching for any P.O's he recognized from 018. He was also the one that called in an "air strike" on a Mass Transit unit that dared to have sounded the siren. (whether in support or whatever other reason)

We wonder if those officers got a nasty-gram and discipline for that?

There was some chit-chat about it but we heard nothing of substance.

Another exempt log in the fire couldn't hurt now could it?

The words of Coleen M. Rowley, FBI Special Agent and Minneapolis Chief Division Counsel, which she wrote in a memo to then-FBI Director Mueller in 2002, ring true at CPD, too!

Just insert "CPD" where it says "FBI"! No difference!

She, too was a whistleblower, just like the Lieutenant.

"...a climate of fear which has chilled aggressive FBI law enforcement action/decisions."

"...the ranks of FBI management are filled with many who were failures as street agents."
