Come On Predictive Analysis Unit!

It's been twenty-four hours since our challenge and we've received only a single prediction. It didn't follow protocol, so it's ineligible in any case, but the computer people missed a golden opportunity to nail down three homicides already:
  • Three people were shot dead and at least one other person was wounded about 8:30 p.m. in the garage of a home in Chicago's West Lawn neighborhood, police and fire officials said.

At least three males were reported dead at the garage in the 6100 block of South Kildare Avenue, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed three fatalities at the scene.

Paramedics were called about 8:33 p.m. and took one male from the garage to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said.

And the neighborhood?
  • "They are just normal people. This isn't a gang neighborhood," said a neighbor who did not give his name.
Well if it wasn't before, it is now sir.

DOpe dealers tied up, gagged and shot execution style isn't gang related? Wtf! Is Jody and his new statistics going to count this as only 1 homicide because its one incident or is he going to count them the right way and move our homicide rate up FOUR not 1? Somebody tell me because their is a vicious but curious rumor going around that Jody's new attempt to lesson the stats for the public to know is to not include Aggravated batteries and Homicides that occur in the home and behind closed doors in a different stat than all others.

I'm feeling SO old.

*sighs*

I grew up in Burbank and spent a SHITLOAD of time on the SW Side.

I was a fighter...a real scrapper, but I NEVER ran into a situation I couldn't defuse or resolve "otherwise".

When I reminisce, I can count all the assholes I ever had to deal with on the street on the SW Side without using all my fingers and toes.

I spent almost TWENTY years in Aviation, until I busted my Medical. I learned to fly @ Midway, and later worked there, too. I spent SO MUCH time in the City.

I have so many memories of a simpler time, where the concept of walking around strapped was only for Off-Duty coppers and the "connected".

Now I carry almost ALL THE TIME.

Pizza and Beer @ Chesdan's.
Chili and Beer @ Lindy's.

I'm tempted to get in the car and head on over, I'm not that far away. If I take the SLOW way, 30-40 minutes, max.

But I'm afraid.

Afraid of what I'll see.

Afraid of how I'll feel.

My oldest just turned 20...it's fucking FLASHED past.

Take your RDO's unless there's no other choice.

Keep your kids as stupid and innocent and child-like for as long as you possibly can.

And if you get the opportunity, LEAVE this God-forsaken City and State.

The leadership of the Chicago Police Department is now cozying up to worst criminals in the city... They're selling rank and file police officers up the river for political reasons, they're wringing hands and gnashing teeth about rising crime yet appear totally flummoxed about how to handle it (although every single street copper knows the answer). So, desperate for any solution no matter how far-flung, they've found a new god in terms of a voo-doo known as 'predictive analysis', which will assuredly be rendered into the historical dustbin as the flaming bag of idiotic-albeit-well-intentioned shit that it is.

This is what chaos looks like. This is what confusion looks like.
This is what incompetence looks like.
This is what bad administrative decisions look like.
This is what rock bottom looks like.
Yes, it sucks. That's the bad news. Tomorrow, you go pin on that badge and holster that pistol to your level-best to protect my family and operate under the grayest of administrative clouds... For that, I am terribly sorry.

The good news is, I do believe that the administrators have cut their own throats. They've made such a flagrant demonstration of ineptitude that there is just no other course of action but to drastically change course, which means undoing the nonsense they've done. They've created their own negative buzz. The 'gang summit' was the talk of my workplace today and, to a man, opinions were universally negative about Weis. People who had no opinion of him before have one now, and it ain't good...

The bad news is that things won't change overnight. The good news is, with every spike they drive into their political coffins by making such spectacular and obvious failures of policy, they're ensuring that the needed changes will indeed come.

If the Chicago Police Department were a stock, I wouldn't be shorting it. I'd be buying shares for value. There is such immense quality in our police department that top-down mismanagement alone cannot destroy the institution itself. By virtue of repeatedly demonstrating failure, the CPD administrators are ensuring that the needed changes will come.

Hold on tight, remember November and try to be as optimistic as possible.

Fourth man dies in "isolated incident"

Murdered Men Were Bound With Tape

Police say the shooting was an isolated incident

Updated 11:10 AM CDT, Fri, Sep 3, 2010

Four men who were discovered shot to in the head Thursday night in a Southwest Side garage, had their hands, feet and mouths bound with duct tape.

Each of the men was positioned face down, hands behind their backs with bullet wounds to the head...the mend were found at 6128 South Kildare in the West Lawn Neighborhood around 8:30 p.m....The location is just to the east of Midway Airport.

Police identified the victims as 30-year-old Roberto Rivera, 25-year-old Noel Cavares, 30-year-old Louis Santillan, and 32-year-old Alonso Villarreal. It appears the victims were the intended target and several weapons were found at the scene, officials said.

When police arrived at the scene, three were already dead, but paramedics took one person to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with trauma. He later died at the hospital, police said.

I lived in West Lawn for 24 years. I watched as the neighborhood went from a middle class, hard working neighborhood to an illegal-rich, gang infested barrio, seemingly overnight. The apartment buildings were the first to go. The gangs started the typical bullshit, standing on the corner representing at passing cars and burglaries in the neighborhood. The building next door stopped being an "apartment building" but a flophouse for illegals, charging as much as $100 a WEEK for a mattress on the floor in the kitchen.

Unfortunately, the 008th district was grossly overworked due to its enormous size way back in the day when the neighborhood was good but now that it's losing the battles AND THE WAR, our guys can barely keep up. Every night backlogs and shootings mean that Garcia Ridge goes virtually unprotected.

West Lawn Park, Pasteur Park, and Strohacker Park were all infested with gangs. Baseball fields were taken over by soccer fields and the Sanctuary City became a landing area for all of the victors of our fight and failure to secure the nations borders.

It breaks my heart to see what's become of West Lawn. A large portion of my life was spent there and I've fled the neighborhood rather than becoming another victim.

Last one out of the neighborhood turn off the lights.

With top police leadership here being found with illegal guns and cocaine in their condominiums, and being photographed shaking hands with gang chiefs, Chicago isn't turning into Detroit. Detroit is afraid of turning into Chicago -- which is turning into Mexico City.

Who are the men in black masks breaking down your door? Criminales? Policia? Policia working as criminales on their day off, to help make ends meet? Who knows anymore?

Mexico Fires 3200 Police Officers

"Mexico's federal police...announced that it had fired one-tenth of the officers in its entire force en masse for failing lie-detector tests and being suspected of corruption...

"Federal Police Commissioner Facundo Rosas told a news conference that the ousters were the result of screening tests administered throughout the force, including lie-detector exams, a toxicology test to determine drug use, and audits to see if an officer's income corresponded to his standard of living—a way to determine if an officer was engaging in lucrative illegal activity...the purge wasn't finished and said another 1,400 officers could soon be receiving pink slips.

"The development wasn't good news for President Calderón. Shortly after taking power, Mr. Calderón ordered Mexico's army into several states to confront drug gangs because Mexico's local and state police forces were widely viewed as too corrupt and incompetent to tackle the problem."

The general run of comments on West Lawn here --

"It WAS a normal neighborhood, around 10-15 years ago...."

--9/03/2010 12:08:00 AM

"I have been assigned to 008 for great many years and that area has changed considerably to working Hispanic and seeded among them them are dope dealers who use and store their dope in many garages and homes for distribution through out the Midwest."

--9/03/2010 09:28:00 AM

--apply to the rest of town as well. The big question; how exactly is the "working Hispanic" stunt pulled off in a collapsing economy, when there don't seem to be enough jobs, when the manufacturing base that paid for almost everything you see around you has virtually diappeared?

The answer is -- sheer numbers. A fifteen-person "blended family," living partially on unreported cash income from menial jobs, partially on one City College-educated kid's pay from a lucrative Hispanic-setaside city job, and partially on the massive benefits available from having large numbers of children -- we'll leave out income from illegal activities -- can afford the very same little brick bungalow that one skilled workman with a wife and two kids used to be able to afford; in fact, it's the same house.

No mystery. Just sheer, overwhelming numbers -- and credito facil.

How many of those houses, how many of those elaborate custom pickups, how many pairs of those Tony Lama boots for Saturday night are paid for? Ha. This economy has a LONG way left to fall. Remember -- last in, first out.

To echo the statements by other people in this post, it's terrible to see what has happened to the neighborhood surrounding this shooting. I grew up two blocks from this quad-homicide.

I grew up there and moved away for college in AZ when I was 18 twelve years ago, and my parents lived there for another 5 years until my dad retired from CPD and they moved to AZ too.

It was a nice working class neighborhood in the 80s and 90s, but starting around 2000 things seemed to get much worse. I would go back to where my parents lived every year to visit them while I was in college, and the neighborhood was worse every time I stayed there. I couldn't even imagine something like this happening near my house 20 years ago.

The best thing we ever did was move to AZ, and get out of the City. You guys continue to do an amazing job with so little support in such a crime-filled city. The whole situation is just so sad.

Be safe out there and take care!

The majority of this city is shot. Don't kid yourself. Drive down any busy street and you will see "Pookie", "PeeWee". "LiL J" parading around as if they own the place. This is not a safe place to raise a family anymore. I can't wait to go.............

Signed,

"Come On Predictive Analysis Unit!"

Who could have predicted anything like this. Everyone who was flaming Phil Cline might be liking the taste of their words about now.

Remember what many were writing on this blog right when jodypweis came on? "Let's give him a chance" "He has some good ideas, I have a good feeling about this guy" and the like.

How are you all liking jodypweis now boys & girls?

Reminds me of that picture of George W Bush with the caption "Miss Me Yet?"

Yeah, we miss you, and Phil Cline & Terry Hillard and hell, even Leroy Martin would be OK about now.

but jodypweis? Jesus H. Christ, what a disaster. The perfect storm of police superintendents. An asshole, not a cop and a fed on top of everything! A fed who has a cat and hasn't eaten it yet!

If this were a book, no one would believe it. I'm here living it and I don't believe it.

State Dept. approves $36M in anti-drug funds for Mexico despite human-rights record

"[...]The money comes by way of the 2008 Merida Initiative, which has provided more than $1 billion for Mexico's narcotics fight. U.S. law requires 15 percent of certain accounts to be frozen until the State Department affirms Mexico is meeting human-rights standards.

The report on Mexico's performance, sent to Congress on Thursday, will allow Mexico to receive $36 million..."

36 million to Mexico?

The illegls and their offspring are already get billions in freebees via the federal gov.
Stop groveling to these people. The only thing they bring here is their diseases and their hands out wanting more.
Start going after everyone who hires them. Make your teenage kids get a job at the restaurant busing tables, cutting lawn, MickeyD's, etc. Sooooo much money going back home and not being spent here....because they have taken after another minority that continually has generations of federal freebee handouts. They don't need to spend any of their tax-free money they get from their crooked business owner because the feds give it all to them for free......let's build some new schools in their neighborhood from American's tax money, let's give them free health care, foods stamps, free housing, etc........we are fools.

It's a new unit, you guys aren't being fair. Once they get up and running I'm sure homicides and shootings will be down. I predict they should be making a difference around January that is if the temps stay below 40 degrees.
