I see that Jody is about to add a fifth MSF team to the ranks of the CPD. That's 48 officers, 6 sarges taken out of the districts. Commander James Roussell states that "We're there to take some of the pressure off of the beat cops." While i'm all for more police driving around in a district, how does this "take the pressure off of the beat cops?" This takes officers OFF beat cars which in some busy districts are working 99 or are downed due to lack of bodies. This limits time-due for beat officers because the less officers a district has, the less time-due can be provided since cars must be manned. My main problem with this statement is how is "pressure taken off a beat cop" when everytime a MSF cars onviews a car accident, domestic, etc., the following words are uttered over the air:"squad, assign a paper car to this location." If Roussell really wants to "relieve pressure", how about one of the 3 or 4 cars caravanning in a MSF group does the paper? If it takes 4 MSF cars to do one drug or gun arrest--case report, arrest report, inventory, complaints-- I don't see why one car can't handle a fourth of that and knock out a case report.

A beat car handles radio assignments, paper jobs, details, transports and has the most interaction with the city's citizens. A beat cop is the backbone of the department. A beat cop endures more abuse- domestics, batteries- than any other member of the department. MSF handles none of the above. So for Roussell to state that MSF takes "pressure off a beat car" is not only smoke and mirrors, worse, it reeks of arrogance.

Before anyone gives me shit, I'm not trying to say 022 is ANYTHING like 006, 007 or 011 but contrary to popular belief it is no longer Mayberry. I think last year we ended up with about 19 homicides which is a pretty good amount considering. We have a huge concentration of Police Officers living in the district and all these B.S. teams that have been formed have done nothing but sapped our manpower. We've lost Officers when TRU and MSF were originally formed. We again lost our 2 gang teams ( I realize everyone has too). Being in Area 2 do you think we'll EVER reap the benefit of these units coming to help us out? We don't stand a chance when you have 003, 004, 005 and 006 in your Area.
Again, it's the hardworking, taxpaying Police, Fire, city workers and other decent residents who will feel the repercussions. Staff the districts to full strength, then create your B.S. units with the leftovers, of which by then, there'll be none.

Jim, if you want to take pressure off the Beat Cars, have those elite troops fill in for down beat cars.

One of the things I've learned in drawing Police Limit over several years now is that problems are the same in every department. Wether you're in Philly or Chicago or Bumblefuk.

Same circus, different clowns.
