Yes today will be Densey Cole day in the state of Ill when Governor Quinn makes his announcement! I hope it turns out to be one of the largest benefits Bourbon St.has ever had. Densey certainly deserves this & I hope there will be many blogs on this site talking about it after the event.

I am a civilian so please excuse my ignorance as I ask for an explanation. Officer Cole was injured in the line of duty. Why do we need to have a fundraiser for "overburdening cost of medical bills, rehabilitation and necessary home renovation." That should be the responsibility of the city. There should be no need to have fundraisers to get the money to pay these expenses.

Note to everyone: even if you can't make it, please donate $25 to Densey.

anon donor

ps - note to civilian

the city will not pay for rehab for the house, it is a beaurocratic nightmare and Densey is not getting paid what he used to get paid as a patrol officer now. If anything he is on disability and receiving only 75%. Please consider and give for a man who was responding to an emergency call only to get broadsided and to be mangled even further by the a**hole felon who pushed his body around while he was unconscious pilfering through his pockets and stealing his gun.

The answer is the Mayor and the rest of the scum politicians do NOTHING for the Police. Good luck getting money from the city to pay for bills. The City is always LATE with making payments, especially when a Police officer injured on duty.

To the civilian. Thanks for your question. One would think that the city that pays off lawsuits to avoid huge verdicts would actually take care of one of it's own police members.

I'm sorry. I just choked on my own words trying to hold back the laughter. Bittersweet tragic laughter. In these economically bad times, Densey is lucky they pay his doctor bills. The Finance Comittee pays the bills when
it feels like it. Must be nice to be Alderman Burke. Cops to protect his home, decider of fates he is. You'd think he'd appreciate cops more.

The crew on Densey's benefit did a fantastic job. Music, food, prizes, commoraderie. Brother We Got Your Back is more than just a slogan.

I just got home(none the worse for wear) from the benefit. it was gratifying to see so many people come out to support Densey. It was nice to see retired boses like McNulty, Clisham, and Kushner show up, have a beer or two, and talk with everyone. Dugan was there, as was Roti and Kuemmeth. Too bad no other bosses bothered to show.

This is true I had a serious IOD the city did not pay my bills on time, and screwed up my credit score. My credit score was in the high 780 Yet now I have to try and explain away what the city did to my credit. Along with me still having to pay some of the bills.

A huge turnout at the benefit. We did have technical problems with the silent auction though. If you bid on a silent auction item, please check the website in another day to see if your bid was a winner. Also, the committee will be trying to get in touch with you by the telephone number you provided.
To the person who stole the old fashioned Zippo lighter from the display of cigars, you should look more closely where the security cameras are.I could count how many nosehairs you had sticking out your left nostril, you cheap, ignorant F%&K !! I will personally look at pictures tomorrow to identify you.
To everyone else, I hope you had a good time, and dropped a few bills to help Densey. Thanks once again !!

Actually I saw Jimmy Jackson, and quite a few other bosses there, but you are right, none of the deputy chiefs or the deputy superintendents, nor the supe...
Unheard of, but then he wants to change the status quo here, so I guess attending the benefit of a police officer CATASTROPHICALLY INJURED ON HIS WATCH would have been part of the status quo, so he didn't show up...

Obviously you just don't get it..
his medical bills aren't the only financial need he has, he has children and a mortgage and other bills, the city does NOTHING for them. Also, they don't pay for everything either, although the should...
Besides that, why can't we have a benefit to show SUPPORT for one of our own who has been catastrophically injured on the job, it is about more than the money...

Once you are ill or disabled on this job, you have to fight for EVERY penny to get the city to pay.
In addition, he still has a mortage and household bills to pay.
He only gets 75% of what he was getting working full time.

Benefit was fabulous.
Great time was had by all.
Thanks to all the volunteers.

I want to tell each & every person who had anything to do with putting on this fantastic benefit how much we appreiate them. This was truly a labor of love time, money, volunteers etc. We arrived at 1:30 & there was a line ouside waiting to get in. I looked at Densey & he had tears in his eyes. I said to him that his brothers & sisters in blue would be there for him & YES THEY WERE!!! Continous blessings to all of you for bringing such joy to my sons heart. Take care of each other out there & "remember only fools rush in." Keep your eye on the prize of going home safely every day. I will keep you all in daily prayer. I remain, Densey Coles' Mom Louise

Not trying to split hairs but your full time salary takes at least 33% or more off the top as deductions for taxes, pension, etc... With a disability check, you get the 75% of your full salary with no deductions, its tax free and exempt from garnishment so it ends up being more money than if he was working.

With that being said, I would still rather be getting a regular duty check than a disability check. God Bless Densey.....

When the city doesn't pay the bills in a timely fashion they put you in collections, and ruin your credit rating.

It would be nice if the city paid your bills as fast as they expect people to pay tickets, fines etc..

I call bullshit on that! The benefit wasn't endorsed by CPD, it wasn't held on CPD property, it wasn't even in the city!!

As long as the paperwork is in order regarding the transfer of the gun and the person winning the handgun has an foid card, there's nothing JFled and his minnions can do about it.

You bet your ass there are medical bills. The city is slower than molasses running uphill when it comes to paying medical bills, no matter what.

I was injured years ago and 2 years later, I got a collection letter from the hospital for a portion of the bill. I filed a grievance and won, but the city still hadn't paid 6 months after the ruling. I finally paid it (less than $100), just so my credit didn't get fucked up.

And if you are IOD, and there's any possibility that you might sue the person who caused your injury, those money grubbing bastards are right there, wanting to know who your lawyer is.

I pray that he continues to recover and that one day we'll see him walking down the street!

To the citizen wondering about the City paying Officer Cole's bills. A few years ago I was shot in the line of duty. Like you, I also thought everything would be OK, that the city would and was paying my bills. Like you, I was wrong. The City was NOT paying the bills. One day I received a call from a very nice lady at the hospital who told me that my bills which at that time had reached 250K, were unpaid and that they wanted their money. I explained to her that I was IOD and that the City was responsible. She told me that she nor the hospital cared and wanted their money. Now. They demanded a check in the full amount or they would send the bill to a collection agency. The City eventually did pay all the bills but it took a very long time and caused me many sleepless nights and alot of aggravation.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

True that J-Fraud/Masters got a CR number on the CO of 022, the Lt. and a committee member. All because the flyer said they were raffling off a gun.

Here's how dumb J-Fraud/Masters is, he did not rationalize the following in optaining the CR.
1) Event happened outside of city limits.
2) There was no actual transfer of ownership of a gun at the event
3) Winner of the raffle still had to meet all state requirements for gun ownership.
4). KB of the famous "Policy Group" just raffled a gun off at thier event not 3 months previous and no CR was obtained on her.

We may have to have a benefit for those named in the CR depending on how much time they take!!!! LOL
(that last paragraph was a funny joke for those of you that don't get it)

I believe that the CR was killed by the time the event rolled around. The point is that this numbnuts is clueless and careless.

Those are not morale building actions that J-Fraud took. Those are malicious actions against fellow officers.

Rot in hell J-Fraud and Masters bater, Masters bater, Masters bater.

I am truly shocked and appalled that the Police Superintendant would not have shown up for a benefit for one of HIS own officers who was injured so tragically.

He is a disgrace to the Chicago Police and should be told TODAY to never put on that ridiculous uniform that he has no business wearing. I am not even a policeman and it makes me squirm to see him wear a uniform that he should not be allowed to wear. HE IS NOT A POLICEMAN.

Stay in your office until they call you to clean out your desk in a few months you pathetic, clueless weasel of a boss.

Good Luck Sgt Cole and thank you for protecting us against the scum of the earth every day! You will be back on your feet and you will always make the citizens proud that people like you wear the uniform.

A proud Chicago Resident.

Try walking (no, he cannot walk) a mile in his shoes (ok riding a mile in his chair)
Medical bills are only part of it. He cannot work all the extra employment that probably 95-100% of all police officers work just to make ends meet, he has no way of making up all the salary he got from that, he gets no holiday pay, no quarterly pay, no uniform allowance, etc. Getting 75% of your pay does NOT in any way equal being at work. Sitting in a wheel chair, needing 24-7 care just so you can eat, and do other functions that YOU can do without even thinking about it, well... I doubt if you would think you had it so great if you were sitting in his chair....

Without actually saying what you did as clearly as you put it, thats exactly what I meant. I do not wish to be in his spot nor wish anyone else to be in that situation. It is a real tragedy that has befallen on him and his family. What I should have said is that I would rather be fortunate enough to continue getting my regular duty pay than to be receiving disability pay because of a devastating injury I had suffered. Sorry for not being a little clearer.....

Most of us pay 15 to 20% in federal income taxes- Most receive a refund check for the 13% or so we over paid. (numbers are wrong) you don't receive any additional checks overtime shift and on and on. thats another 4 to 5 thousand, Best of all you Never receive an increase.

Other jobs will pay you for pain and suffering (lump sum)- we don't receive that. So if you think this jobs is so great think again if you get injured.
