Crime Down Again?

  • Chicago police officials reported that October crime statistics continued a drop in violent and property crime for the 22nd consecutive month.

Total crime dropped by 3.7 percent compared to the same time last year while property crime dropped by 2 percent and violent crimes dropped by 9.8 percent, police said.

The only reported increase was in motor vehicle thefts which were up by 22.7 percent compared to last year's figures.
Lies, damn lies and statistics. J-fled is making a major play for a contract extension,

So far this year 14 districts have more homicides or shootings than last year. i've also noticed a significant rise in shootings/homicides in 16, 20, 23, 24.

Violent crime is UP in the 018th District. In fact it has the greatest increase citywide since last year. Just check it on the CPD Clear page. Since Dugan was dumped because of increased crime, can you please send Commander KA to the airport to take his place. Or at least send him to OCD where thay aren't subjected to crime increases. As for "killing crime" I suggest listening to this story out of the NYPD. It's about 20 minutes into the piece.

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/414/right-to-remain-silent

Officer Schoolcraft got some fairly high up NYPD bosses on tape acting like idiots. Hell, one such boss even had a "departmental trial" for steroid use.

Of course he was placed into a mental ward for doing so. I hope he enjoys the check the citizens of NYC are going to be cutting him.

Snicker.

Didn't one of the newspapers do a story in the 80's about CPD brass manipulating crime numbers? Maybe someone has a better memory than me.

Crime is down because citizens will not wait for the police. Callback takes hours, if not days. Residents go to the station and get tired of waiting in the long line. They have to report auto thefts for insurance purposes. That is the number which is reflective of all crime. The agg batts with a firearm is being played with. There is no way they are down.

Agreed 100% with this analysis plus I would like to add that huge numbers are fleeing the city from the ghettos to the suburbs after their houses are foreclosed upon. The cost of living is cheaper. Look at the number of board-ups on each block in the crap neighborhoods.

Reported crime is down nationally, why should Chicago be any different? It's not because of Weis, although the tried and true use of large numbers of police officers to target violent street crime has been expanded by him. Just remember, he didn't invent the concept. And neither did the mush Roussel.

And remember, when crime was up we had 13500, now crime is down, we should have less, IF, and only IF, we size a police force by crime.

People don't realize that they are not comparing the stats for the year to date...Jan-Nov. They only compare from a certain time frame...Nov 2008, Nov 2009, Nov 2010. That way they can say compared to this time last year (the month of Nov) crime is down.

Superintendent Weis will be given a short extension , let's see if another Supt . could reduce crime.
CPD is using the office police to fight crime and the truth is CPD doesn't need any more officers.
All they have to do is streamline
assign office police to street duty , assign captains to an area and field lts to a zone , now we're talking of saving millions in yearly budget and future pension.

With the FOIA rules you would think the media would look into these claims. If they aren't sure how, here are some hints:
- many pick pocket and theft from person reports are downgraded to lost and found. Lost and found reports should be up this year.
- persons shot in robberies are not being "counted" for the media when CPD reports Agg Batt w/firearm; also the number of incidents is reports, not the number of victims.
- strong arm robberies are being reported as thefts as long as no one was "visually injured".
- Attempt burglary reported as damage to property.
Shit...I'm tired of typing. Do your job paperboys and girls. Crime really isn't as "down" as they say it is. Ask Pam Zekman, she'll explain it to you.

Crime isnt being killed, its on life support!

Shooting with nobody bleeding to death= Simple battery

Hitting someone in the head with hammer- but no hospital involved= simple battery

Cutting your boyfriend up, but he as victim refuses to cooperate= Domestic battery simple

Shooting someone, they die but no witnesses around= Death Investigation (until next year, when they can classify it as a homicide AFTER they give the ultra-low numbers for this year)

Stealing car with keys= criminal trespass to vehicle

Breaking inside house, stacking up merchandise, but flee befor police arrive= criminal trespass to residence.

If crime is so far down, why are the CALLS FOR SERVICE on the rise????

Take care of seniors and truly mentally handicapped. But all these bums that get checks then get high and watch tv all day, need a wake up call. If you increase taxes, then increase spending, you haven't moved an inch. They'll be asking for another increase the next year.

Paper Shuffln' at its finest I see. Their are people dropping like flies everyday being shot and killed, what the hell is the department talking about. After the city gets done playing around making burglaries into thefts and making agg batteries into assaults and classifying homicides behind closed doors into a different catagory maybe those crimes are down a little bit, who knows. I can see crime being down when it comes to officers making arrests which would document that crime as say a PCS or A Poss Of Cannabis or a DOPW or Poss Ammo, etc. We see the crime out there which is out of control. We're in a backlog everyday so don't drink the koolade.

hey press dudes:

look at 911 calls for police service

compare them (crimes going down?)

was Rd# issued? for what? did it match the call?

a burglary in progress or attempting to break into your house when you are not home should not become a simple damage to property or criminal trespass simply because the offender fled the scene before police arrived.

it skews the reality of crime reporting.

In my opinion it is false reporting or lying to the citizens.

The department was doing a study in 017 in regards to getting rid of the desk sergeant postion.

The question is will they still pay someone out of grade to to the work? The officer who holds the keys to the safe .. will he get the D -3 pay?
They could always relocate the safe to the watch commanders office. When you think about it; the sergeant really does not approve the arrest report he only "clerks" it. Any P.O. could do this and the city may attempt to NOT pay D-3 pay.

Has anyone heard any news on this???

Some of those have credentials in getting launched by jfled.

But come on, a "PUBLIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT" degree?

I'd rather have a degree in arc welding from Popular Mechanics Magazine University.

What is the real reason why so many coppers were declined by MSF? Rumor was that IAD and IPRA stopped 24% from coming over. Another is if you had any open or pending cr numbers you couldn't. Another was some top brass cried about their boys not making it, so they stopped other qualified picks. What is the real answer for those of us who got turned down?

------------

The reason we asked for MSF applications was to identify the suck asses. Suck asses will do whatever they are told to do as long as we keep giving them BS honorable mentions and keep telling the public that they're special. Suck asses watch a lot of TV. They see themselves as the star. They do our bidding as long as we keep feeding that illusion.

Relax. You were identified. You made the suck ass list even if you didn't get into MSF.

Good things are in store for you.

Oh, lying with statistics is such a fun game.

The journalism students at Medill have a different take on crime going down.

http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/news.aspx?id=172256

When you combine the lying with statistics with 1) the perception of crime and 2) the number of shootings that never even become a statistic, Chicago has a really big problem!! The number one issue on my mind in the upcoming mayoral election is finding someone with the will to take back the streets for decent people.
