Poetic Justice
A man died Saturday night after he was shot with own his gun while attempting to rob a tanning salon in southwest suburban Orland Park.
Police received a call at 6:36 p.m. of an armed robbery [occurring] at L.A. Tan, on the 15600 block of South 94th Avenue, according to a release from Orland Police.
Surveillance video from inside the business showed that a man entered the business, announced a robbery and pointed a handgun at a female employee, according to the release. The man then ordered a female customer using a tanning bed to tie the hands and feet of the female employee with rope he had brought with him.
A male customer entered the business minutes later for a scheduled appointment and the suspect pointed the handgun at him and ordered the customer to tie his hands together, according to police.
The male customer then grabbed the handgun away from the suspect, police said. The man moved [aggressively] toward the male customer, who then shot the man twice with the gun, police said.

A little off topic but is the Lynwood officer filing a lawsuit??? Also as long as Drew Peterson's jury or judge just look at the facts in the case he should get one big lawsuit payout and the son should do alright. Hell Drew probabaly did it but you can't prove probably and the charges should never went through until more evidence arose.

I am glad that this situation worked out. But honestly, it was a stupid move on the part of the male customer who entered the store and took away the gun and killed the bad guy.
Too often, people want to play the tough guy and do things like this and it ends up badly. In this case, I am glad the good guys came out on top and the bad guy died. But tactically, it was still a dumb move.
Big caper Sat Night in 16th Dist. 3 M/1's armed with hand guns and wearing ski masks entered the Baker Square restaurant at Harlem & Foster, and ducted taped 11 people and put them in the cooler and robbed them. Wonder why that didn't make the news?

On the news tonight, somehow they tied the gun to both cases. This wasn't a robbery gone bad, it was a multiple murder thwarted.
He was trying to kill them all, not rob them. That makes the guys actions who dispatched the bad guy all the more heroic. He said on the news he felt they were all going to die and he did what he had to do. If so, good shooting friend.

Fuck you. He spoke very confidently and appeared to be physically fit to carry out the defensive move that proved successful.
As a civilian, I even understand that once it gets to the point of pulling the trigger. There is no shoot to wound. Only shoot to kill.
The TanBoy got lucky in grabbing the gun without getting him or another innocent shot. Odds of that luck holding if that SOB got his gun back? No question, suck it up, center mass until he's down.

CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities are expected to say more about whether an armed man killed by a customer during a weekend robbery attempt at a suburban Chicago tanning salon is the same man who terrorized the Illinois-Indiana border two months ago in apparently random shootings.
The Will County sheriff's office says it would likely comment further on the matter Tuesday but didn't offer details.
The suburb where the attempted robbery occurred, Orland Park, is northwest of the border area where an unknown gunman struck. The October attacks drew national attention after the gunman asked one victim about honeybees.
On Saturday, customer Jason McDaniel walked into an L.A. Tan during the robbery and managed to grab a handgun from the robber. McDaniel then fatally shot the man twice. Salon managers call McDaniel a hero.

I understand your point, but you have some incorrect information. McDaniel did not have to take the gun away from the now dead offender. The dead guy put the gun on the counter while going into his own bag and McDaniel, being sure the offender planned to kill him, siezed the moment. Big difference. Not having to struggle for the firearm helped McDaniel immensely.
Besides, in this instance, the offender looks to have been a bloated, over-weight slug and McDaniel looks like Brian Urlacher. McDaniel sized up the circumstances and made the right moves. Once you have it figured the guy is going to kill you and an opportunity presents itself, wouldn't you rather die fighting to stay alive than die trussed up and unable to defend yourself? All in all, McDaniel made the right call! Chalk one up for the good guy!

If the guy doesn't make the play for the gun and shoot right then, they are all dead right now! Not a dumb move at all, the exact right move. Very smart move. A move that saved lives.
Once you have it figured the guy is going to kill you and an opportunity presents itself, wouldn't you rather die fighting to stay alive than die trussed up and unable to defend yourself?
You said it all. To me, it wasn't about McDaniel trying to be badass. As you said, he knew that fat coward was GOING TO KILL HIM and EVERYONE ELSE! Therefore, why not take whatever opportunity, no matter how tactically risky,to save your life? I mean, really, are we honestly having this debate? Guess it's genetically coded into the cynical nature some PO's to second guess everything. I'd like to think I would've acted in the same manner.

It's been getting heavy play on the ABC news circuit. I think it was the opposite of the OP LA Tan story. Older woman going back to swatting at the gun with her purse. Followed by the superintendent talking to the crazy with a gun like he was some jr high school'r throwing a temper tantrum. Now they are being paraded around as "hero's" on TV. The only one, who seemingly made the right call was the school guard, who shot the crazy.
