Chicago Public School students who have never had an eye exam or whose teachers suspect they have vision problems can now receive free vision screening at a new clinic run by the Illinois Eye Institute.
By making vision care accessible to thousands of CPS students who need it, organizers hope to improve students’ academic performance.
Sure. We've thrown billions of dollars at the schools over our adult tax-paying lives and we've seen pretty much zero improvement in test scores during that time (we've only seen a lowering of standards in an effort to "boost" performance). Might as well have the government pick up the tab once again.

they have always had people come to the schools and offer these free exams-I wonder what the scam is on this one since the free exams have been available already. Something tells me that "free" somehow means someone is making out.
Remember when the Dentistry van would show up in the projects. Imagine having a dentist come to your front door AND its free! Funny thing was that the residents still couldn't be bothered to walk the 20ft to the van for a check-up.
So is this what our 2% increase in state tax is going towards? Why is it that the only people not having to "sacrifice" during this recession is politicians and cradle-to-grave welfare recipients?
Of Course! They use their Lank Cards for bowling and beer. Just go to that Bowling Alley on Western and Grace on weekend. They missuse everything that is handed to them and only to expect more. And they get it.
I bet every kid that needs glasses has a big screen TV, Playstation 3, 50 or more games, Several pimped out rides in the houshold, and a wardrobe to boot of million dollar sneakers. But no $$$ for glasses? WTF?
Never-ending free stuff that is a good idea is exactly why Chicago, Illinois and the US Federal government are broke.

The fact that the children of the C.P.S. system need eye exams is not a dumb idea! I think we should do more to give better eye sight to these kids. just think of how better their shooting will be. lets start with the stones. we can collect the info and see if they can kill more GD's then in the previous year. hell, I think the federal government should give grant money to the city for the results of such great work. tax and spend or is is spend and tax? I hope they will be able to get better glasses then I can with the Davis plan. I love giving my money away while I work more. I feel so fucking good!

CPS just announced it will give free eye exams to all students who request them. That's why Illinois and Chicago are going broke.
This State and City are BANKRUPT, but still insist on wiping everyone's asses for them. This madness must stop!

About the ONLY silver lining that potentially exists in giving all these mutts free eye exams is that maybe they'll be a little more accurate when they're popping off rounds at the competition, thereby reducing the amount of innocent casualties.
What they need to offer is free vasectomies.

End the Sanctuary City status. The State of Illinois should begin enforcing these laws if Chicago will not.
Chicago cannot pay it's bills, in part, because of the huge drain on the economy the illegals inflict on the City's taxpayers. The State of Illinois will end up paying Chicago's bills.
Ending the Sanctuary status could be a hot topic for the Mayoral race, but not a word from either the candidates or the Media. I wonder why, collusion?

I certainly don't recall getting free breakfast when I went to school when I was young. Don't recall getting a free lunch either. I remember my mother making me a lunch. So let me get this straight.....CPS has the shortest school days of anyone, one period is devoted to breakfast and one is for lunch. I'm sure they will devote a period to free eye screening and pretty soon, a period of nap time. Sounds like an ingenious plan for our future leaders.

We can see you don't like the President, for whatever reason. But accusing him of being a jerk because of that announcement is wrong and mean. Obviously the rest of what he said in his speech had no effect on you in terms of reasoned discourse....
and more on the subject, anyone can go to the Illinois Eye Institute and get free exams and buy glasses on a sliding scale so do not scream a certain segment is getting free free free.
You cops and your families are welcome to take advantage of their services and they probably would give you free glasses just for showing your police IDs.
As students, you may get a better exam because they are using the latest technology and techniques, so do not knock it until you have tried it.

There's a BIG difference, between a private company voluntarily providing free services versus a government mandate of public money.

Wait a minute!!!! Which Dunkin D's gives a copper free coffee still!?!? You have to remember why they do offer discounts or "freebies". To keep the criminals you stand up for from robbing them late at night. You see, with better eye sight, these free loaders (handout recipients) may drive by a Dunkin D's, realize the little female worker inside is a easy target for a robbery, and enter the empty store for extra cash. Believe it or not, alot of "working" people out there love Police presence. It brings security and usually a good conversation during those lonely nights at work. So take your hard earned $$$ savings and hand it out to the "takers" in this society if it makes you feel good..... Don't trash talk "coppers" until you know what your talking about. BTW, I try to pay for everything I get. This "safe" City which reportedly has dropping crime stats, have thousands of store owners begging for more Police presence. They WANT us around. You see, the Government is confusing it's voters....... They are lead to believe that everything is theirs to take... By theft,robbery, etc...

They work cheap for cash and "envio dineros a Mexico," send money back to Mexico by wire transfer, as a dozen signs on every currency exchange urge, while taking full advantage of free food, medical care, education, etc.
They are swamping our socal services.
I saw one far-west-suburban web site for a clinic that offered free or low-cost medical care, and every patient pictured being treated by smiling doctors and dentists was Mexican. These are the landscapers and domestic help "who work so cheap," pulling in their "hidden subsidy" that makes them not-so-cheap.
I know a similar clinic that is moving to larger quarters because it is absolutely overwhelmed with whole Mexican families walking in with no appointment. They are something like 85% of the clientele. The price of office visits for those who can pay a little has tripled -- even the very poor have to subsidize these people. At least the clinic has begun to dimly realize that this is not sustainable; they have stopped offering "pruebo de embarazo gratis," free pregnancy testing.
I saw one study that said the financial impact of the arrival of one male Mexican immigrant, arriving at age 16, was about minus-$55,000 by the time he reached age 44, in terms of taxes paid versus benefits received.
This has to stop -- but given the ever-more-powerful "Hispanic" bloc that is encouraged to flood in and take over the "Sanctuary City," it shows every sign of continuing.

It just hit me while driving along tonight; if the federal government can threaten states with loss of funding for not formally celebrating Martin Luther King Day, they should Goddamned well cut off the Federal spigot for states and cities which thumb their nose at the law of the land, refusing to enforce immigration laws and creating "Sanctuary Cities."
