And using a "cookcountyil.gov" e-mail address for a personal attack on an "insignificant" blog exercising their Right to free speech? Tsk tsk tsk counselor.
Anyone have Preckwinkle's office number? This wouldn't appear to be an employee she wants representing Cook County government on the time clock.

I think Mr. Esq. was referring to "greasers" like the kind in the movie Grease. Mt. Greenwood was known for its greasers in the 60's and 70's the ones west of the tracks at Sacramento as they wore black leather jackets and black pointy shoes and were the anti gym shoe wearers "preps" from St. John Fisher and Marytrs.

I don't know anything about Tom's email - but Tom is a good man. I've known Tom for over 20 years - testified in court where he was the PD. Worked with his wife who is a police officer who started out in Englewood over 20 yes ago. Stood beside him in the parks as we coached our children in soccer, t-ball and little league. He is an outstanding father, husband, neighbor and a friend to the police who has helped many an officer in time of need without looking for any kudos and accolades. Tom also has not been in good health the past few years.
I read SCC every day and you do a great service to bringing out the garbage we have to deal with on a daily basis. Again, I ask you to please let this go, I don't know what the email said, but there is not a mean, vindictive bone in this man's body. Truly, he is a good family and religious man just trying to do right for his kids. We wasted a lot of money on stupid stuff like: cell phones that costs us $90 per month, brand new cars which were replaced with two used cars, eating out 4 times a month, and spending money everyday on stuff like candy bars, coffee, frapucinnos, take out food from Chipotle, McDonalds, etc....
Trust me, look at your expenses and cut out all of the unnecessary waste. Ask yourself, do you and your wife really need a brand new Iphone? Do you really need a new car?

Sorry to disagree on one small point, here, SCC. LONG BEFORE Mt. Greenwood was the only neighborhood on the south side that a city worker could live in, Mt. Greenwood was considered to be full of hillbillies and "greasers", by the rest of the south side....that might be where he got the name.

I seem to recall that SHE got into some trouble years back and almost lost her CPD job.
Someone took car of her and she landed (with little time on the job) in Traffic Safety.

I rarely re-post something like that, but I felt this was compelling so I checked it out in more detail. It turns out that all 12 were killed serving in Afghanistan between July 10 and 16, not this week, all were Americans except Brett Linley, of Birmingham UK, who served in the 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment,The Royal Logistic Corps. Nine of the 12 served in the US Army, not the Marines. Extensive searching found no record of Justus Bartett, but I was able to find an obituary for 27 year old Marine Staff Sgt. Justus S. Bartelt , of Polo, Ill, and I concluded that his name was likely transcribed incorrectly at some point.

I don't know anything about Tom's email - but Tom is a good man. I've known Tom for over 20 years - testified in court where he was the PD. Worked with his wife who is a police officer who started out in Englewood over 20 yes ago. Stood beside him in the parks as we coached our children in soccer, t-ball and little league. He is an outstanding father, husband, neighbor and a friend to the police who has helped many an officer in time of need without looking for any kudos and accolades. Tom also has not been in good health the past few years.
I read SCC every day and you do a great service to bringing out the garbage we have to deal with on a daily basis. Again, I ask you to please let this go, I don't know what the email said, but there is not a mean, vindictive bone in this man's body. Truly, he is a good family and religious man just trying to do right for his kids. He has no political connections or aspirations of being a judge or anything like that, he's all about the love he has for his wife and family. Thank you.

From what I heard, it's supposed to be retroactive to Jan 1st. If so, we may not see it on our checks on the 16th because I don't think the city can do the adjustment by that time. If so then they will make up for it on Feb 1st, taking what they couldn't before.

I saw it again this morning! While at 7-11 in Norwood Park buying my morning paper and a cup of joe, the lady in front of me had 2 packs of Twinkies, bag of Chee-tos, bottle of Red Pop, and a Slim Jim..... then pulled out her LINK card. Of course I said something to her, and she got very defensive, the neck started gyrating like a helicopter and she stormed off. She was wearing scrubs so she probably was a nurse at the nursing home on NW Hwy or at Res. She also drove a car, if you're that broke that you can't pay for your own food, you should be taking public transportation. Also, if you're THAT poor that you need govn't assistance to eat, you DEFINITELY shouldn't be buying Twinkies with your LINK card. How many HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars are wasted on junk food for the LINK cardholders? Something should be done, I see this waste all the time. Someone get the ball rolling on this one and save our state hundreds of millions!

You were the only one to get it exactly right! In the 1950's and 1960's, Mt. Greenwood had the Socialites and the Greasers. There were no jocks, although, in later years, the word "socialite" may have morphed into "jock".
And, the only thing even remotely Hispanic about a Greaser in those days was the Cuban heels on his Stacy-Adams pointed leather shoes, known as "Stacies". And the Stacies stayed on for ALL public activities, even on the rare occasion of a friendly game of basketball between Greasers and Socialites at Mt. Greenwood Park.
Plus, you are correct about the burger place. It was The Ranch before it became Reds II in the 1970's.

1. all benefits dispensed via link cards be honored only at designated LINK distribution centers.
2. ALL link card users be required to work at designated LINK distribution centers.
3. said LINK distribution centers to stock only those items produced, processed, assembled, and/or provided for by link card users.
4. all LINK distribution centers will provide day care for said link card users' working at said LINK distribution centers, by, as you would surmise, other link card users.
5. no items, goods, services, etc., of any kind, shall be distributed in exchange for link card credits, other than those items, goods and services produced, processed, assembled, and/or provided for by link card users.
6. no link card user shall transfer, loan, give or otherwise permit the use of their own link card by anyone other than that specific link card user, under penalty of: a) 1st offense = lifetime ban on link card benefits, b) 2nd offense = misdemeanor fraud charge with mandatory fine and incarceration optional, c) 3rd offense = felony fraud charge with mandatory fine and mandatory incarceration.

The LINK card is becoming a safe little plastic scapegoat, taking all the heat for the causative issues that will be censored as "hate" in the conventional, controlled media and in most online forums.
Certain people are the problem -- they do not fit into this society and should not be here in the first place. That's about as far as I can go -- to go farther and discuss concrete solutions would bring cries of "racism" and "genocide."
Remember what happened when someone said "Norplant," and used words like "responsibility?"
I definitely agree that -- for a start -- this sort of benefit should not be available to non-citizens, nor should this be a "Sanctuary City" that thumbs its nose at the law of the land, nor should we be passing "DREAM Acts" and similar destructive legislation to forther the problem.
Just dealing with this "tip of the iceberg" would save hundreds of millions, as you say.
The food program is a literal lifeline for many genuinely elderly, disabled, and needy people; there would be much less of a problem with it were it not being held up as a "free lunch" beacon to the entire world.

Was standing in line at a food store on Touhy in Niles when the latina lady ahead of me purchased TWO carts of food with the LINK card. Then she paid the third cart with an American Express card! A manager came over a scolded her for purchasing a higher priced bread item with LINK and told her next time she had to get a cheaper generic version. I saw her loading up the goodies in her 2010 SUV. YOUR TAXES AT WORK!!!! ILLINOIS is a fucked-up state to live in....stop voting democratic and voice your opinions on this fraud.
