Anti-Gun Crowd Drooling

What a bunch of opportunistic morons. First up, Chicago's Moron-in Chief:
  • Mayor Richard Daley expressed sadness and outrage in the wake of the Arizona shooting rampage, and said the incident is yet more evidence that stronger gun control is needed.

[...]"It isn't what your beliefs are, it's basically access to guns . . . we have a killing machine going on because of guns," he said.
  • One of the fiercest gun-control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition the gunman used.

  • Another vocal supporter for gun control, Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley, told POLITICO that he hopes “something good” can come from the Arizona tragedy – perhaps discussion on a new assault weapon ban, sales at gun shows and tracing measures.
Never letting a crisis go to waste - again. But the gun was purchased legally. It wasn't an assault weapon. And it looks like everyone passed the buck on the shooter's mental state, allowing him to legally purchase and own a gun:
  • In 2008 President George W. Bush signed a law expanding the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which registered gun dealers use, to include more comprehensive reporting of mental health records. Under the current law, it is illegal for anyone who has been “adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution” to purchase a firearm, according to the FBI’s website.

However, Loughner did not fall into either of those categories, according to Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.

So no one knew he was disturbed, no one forced him to seek medical care, therefore no background check could have stopped him before he managed to get his hands on a gun. And the lead investigator, the sheriff of Pima County, who has been the most vocal partisan of blaming the Right for this tragedy, seems to have dropped the ball worst of all:
  • Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County...

Every victim of his threats previously must also be wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented if they had been more aggressive in pursuing charges against Mr. Loughner. Perhaps with a felony conviction he would never have been able to lawfully by the Glock 9mm Model 19 that he used to strike down the lives of six people and decimate 14 more..,,

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sheriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact.

Because only a Tea Party member could force a democratic sheriff to ignore numerous death threats against public officials in his jurisdiction because the offender had relatives on the Pima County payroll.

Liberal Democrats are the most miserable scum on the planet. Only they could be so classless as to use a tragedy such as this to further their causes.

How do they take a nut job who was on THIER fucking side of the political spectrum and spin it to be an attack against the right?

Pure, evil scum. May they all rot in hell with that thieving Irish prick Daley.

Well the republicans control the house so maybe this will derail these gun grabbers. The big hitch being that the right may want some type of security out of this too.

I do like the lefts' (inferred) theory that restricting high capacity magazines would have prevented this.
Or are they implying that 10 victims is better than 16.
Damn, I hate when a gun targets a human.

What is it that Rham is known to say "don't let the opertunity of a crisis go to waste."

Here comes the run on high capacity magazines.

What many seem to overlook, this deranged killer was a doper. Who knows how warped his mind was?

He also had mental problems that somehow were discounted or even totally overlooked when he was arrested for some misdemeanors (were they dropped to lower charges because Mom was part of the County?? I guess clout is alive in Pima too.)

Overlooking a child's mental health issues until they kill some people?

Sounds like what happened here with Laurie Dann. She had issues but her family tried to keep it quiet - then she blew.

Before going after gun-owners, go after social workers not doing their job, county officials (like the Pima Sheriff) not doing their job, parents not doing their job and dope dealers.

There are a ton of crazy left wingers trying to use this to further their agenda. However, the reason they keep talking about the assault weapons ban that expired is because it would have prohibited the 30 round clip the guy had in his glock. Obviously, merely prohibiting something doesn't mean shit when it can be obtained illegally.

However, renewed portions of the assault weapons ban would allow things to be federally prosecuted. For example, you catch a guy with a gun on the street, he isn't a convicted felon, but he has a 30 round clip in his Glock. Wouldn't it be nice when he gets (and serves) YEARS in federal prison, just for the clip, instead of getting a walk at 26th and Cal?

You want stiffer sentences? Harsher penalties? Mandated prison terms for gun offenders? That, "never let a crisis go to waste" shit cuts both ways.

The problem is that liberals steer the argument their way, and there aren't any rational and level headed people on the right that can get more attention than fucking Sarah Palin and Glen Beck. So there is nobody anybody wants to listen to that effectively counters the liberals yelling.

There are enough laws on the books to protect us. We only need the politicians and judges (same thing in most cases) to have the guts to enforce them.

The politicians are too worried about the votes to act in all of our best interests. Pandering to the most vocal sections of the voting blocks is better for them and the rest of us have short memories. It takes something big to wake us up.

Vote for the people that enforce the laws. Look at the hand wringing with George Ryan. "Let him out. His wife is really sick" He is a convicted felon. Justice is supposed to hurt. THAT is the deterrent.

I believe in a citizens right to own a firearm.

I also understand the ease with which a person can purchase a firearm illegally.

There has always been opportunistic people who would sell anybody anything(how did native americans get all those rifles)

But the system is not perfect. I personally know of a person with a mental disorder apply, and ultimately receive, a FOID card.
Only way it was caught was when it was discovered in the mail.

We go to classes to earn a drivers license, and others just get behind the wheel.

If you want to legally purchase a firearm, maybe there should be some sort of licensing class.

I know a mentally deranged person or a criminal would still be able to purchase that weapon, but at least the weight would be on him and off citizens who believe in the second amendment.

The punishment for using a firearm needs to be such that the illegal purchase and illegal sale are felonies, and the act which is committed with the firearm raises it to a higher degree.

[...]

One of the heroes who helped take down the Arizona assassin said Monday he was prepared to shoot the murderous maniac himself.

"I was ready to end his life," Joe Zamudio said. "I had my hand on the butt of my gun. If they hadn't grabbed him and he was still moving, I would have shot him."

Without hesitation?

"Damn right," said Zamudio. "This is my country, this is my town."

Zamudio, 24, spoke out three days after Jared Lee Loughner shot and wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and massacred six other people outside a Tucson supermarket.

"I was at the store buying cigarettes," Zamudio said. "I was at the counter when I heard the gun shots. I put my hand on my gun and ran out."

The 911 tapes and rest of the story is here ?>> Joe Zamudio

If this guy wasn't carrying chances are he would of not ran towards the gunfire.

When he arrived on scene as the story goes the gunman already emptied one clip and 61 year old person knocked a second clip out of the gunman's hands, then a 71 year old retired army col. starts choking the gunman.

Gun sales skyrocket 60 percent in Arizona

In Ohio, sales spiked 65 percent on Monday, the FBI said. They rose 38 percent in Illinois, 33 percent in New York and 16 percent in Florida.

Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, cautioned that one day’s worth of data might not mean there will be a sustained spike in gun sales.

But he said it might indicate that some Americans fear tougher gun control laws in the aftermath of Saturday’s attack so they want to stock up now

Citing Shooting, Congressmen Eye New Curbs on Political Speech

[...]

Rep. [...]

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D – NY) insisted that the FCC should work hard to restrict political speech that “could incite people,” adding that “no one owns the airwaves” and that she clearly felt the FCC was not doing enough to regulate political commentary nor to sanction those whose criticism were unacceptable to her.

FWIW

Mr. Zumudio also stated during one of his interviews that as he ran out of the store after hearing the shots ring-out, he almost shot the first person he saw holding the weapon but by virtue of his keeping his powder dry and witnessess/bystanders telling him the person in possession of the weapon was not the shooter and pointing out the already subdued nut-job.

Zumudio also stated he almost went over to the crowd before going in to the store and that he thinks about that a lot because if he had, he feels he might have been able to take the shitbird out before getting all those shots off.

Responsible armed citizens are an asset, not a danger!

If these fucks that want to dis-arm Americans achieve that goal, they'll fuck us out of our Liberty.

Daley would do it in a Heartbeat. He's already grabbed everything that he can.

Mark Furman was interviewed tonight and he gave a succint perspective generally only a cop could give.

First, I paraphrase, he stated, Dupnik should have never opened his pie hole about what his opinion was vis-a-vis why the scumbag did what he did or what his political demeanor is. That's not Dupniks job and it was very unprofessional, Furman noted (sheesh Dems JFled's Obama endorsement).

Furman also pointed, out under AZ law, any patrolman had the latitude to have a citizen psych probed for 72 hours on the basis of a radio call and the scumbags behavior alone.

Furman also noted that the lack of any police presence at all to address traffic snafus that might occur or impediments to people comming and going from the stores during the Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford's presence was a major, major error.

Furman added that the lack of a police liason present at such an event was a real failure in professional law enforcement.

I hope a real shitstorm finds its way toward Dupnik.

I don't wish him harm. I wish him unemployment, public shame and perhaps legal trouble.

Many upstanding citizens used pot etc. in college and didn't go batshit crazy in shopping centers with pistols.

I heard the most dangerous thing after pot use was too many chocolate chip cookies and milk.

The conniving rat daley will use this as a reason he and his entire worthless family should continue to be guarded 24/7 for the rest of his life. At taxpayer's expense, of course.

That piece of shit liberal sheriff sounds like he should be on J-fled's payroll. He'll probably be the next Supt. here.

I don't agree with the Sheriff's comments at all. I think they were dumb and unprofessional...but...you are talking about Mark Furhman formerly of LA right? The guy who perjured himself? WHo lost all his credibility? Maybe he shouldn't be talking about professionalism.

I've met with former LAPD Det. Mark Fuhrman. While some may perceive him to be somewhat arrogant, one thing is beyond dispute. Even his critics will acknowledge he was one hell of a homicide dick. A bright guy who was taped by a police groupie saying something stupid earlier in his career.

After writing several best-selling books, he is living quite comfortably near Coeur d'Alene/Sandpoint in the northern Idaho panhandle aka "God's Country".
