Rumor that he put in his papers to leave 15 January. Can anyone confirm?

A completely colorless and personality deficient individual, his only purpose seemed to be to make everyone at HQ miserable and nit-pick rule violations.
We even have it from one of our HQ informants (a gold star no less) that none other than J-Fled himself stated that one of his biggest mistakes was bringing Brust along to Chicago, probably because so many of Brust's missteps ended up costing J-Fled necessary support that may have made his tenure easier.

I was at headquarters picking something up and I saw this guy, I didn't know who he was, I said hello to him and he stared at me then turned and walked away. I blew it off then one day I saw him on that departmental organizational chart. Once I found out he was an outsider I realized it's like inviting someone to your house and they ignore you. What a jag.
One of the things he is trying to do is make it where you only can stay in a unit for two years! and from what I hear from 35th st this is going to happen! Happy New Year

Funny this must have had the medical abusers of our department salivating. For all the Mayoral hopefuls, that money has always been there to put our police force numbers up to par, and then some, but we've been paying for Daley's City Hall Corruption, Olympics, and other wasteful spending.

OT: A friend of mine's girlfriend, who he lives with, was stopped for speeding 8 blks from their home, while she was on her way home from work, by a Niles Police Officer - Badge #170. She did what we all tell our loved ones... be respectful and inform the officer that they are married to, engaged to, live with, dating, whatever... with a Chicago Police Officer. She further told him she was on her way back home to her daughter who had an ear infection and was hurrying to get back. She also apologized, like she had been told to do. So what did he do??? He wrote her the ticket for speeding and took her license for bond. NILES PD WRITES CPD FAMILY TRAFFIC TICKETS!!! So much for professional courtesy!!!

Brust in my opinion was a class act and cared about the CPD. He was not involved in the petty issues and happen to enforce the rules. At 35th street he truly had knowledge and experience. The only mistake that brust made unfortunately was to let Howard run the academy. Alas, Brust will leave for greener pastures and we are still stuck with Howard. I bet he is happy to leave this hell hole of a city.

TRU that. Besides ANYONE can make up a story just to squeeze out of a ticket. It's up to the copper whether to buy the story or what not. Tell your friend's girlfriend to obey the speed limit. Doing so gives her a better chance of getting home safe and she will not get home that much faster by going over the limit.

How is some cops girlfriend considered part of the CPD family? How far does professional courtesy apply? Girlfriend, live in partner, landlord, best friend? WTF! In my opinion, family members get a pass, girlfriends do not.
I have been stopped by a Niles copper on more than one occasion and have been treated very kindly and professionally...and sent on my way. No beefs with Niles.
A few years ago Niles PD stopped my teenage daughter for speeding.
The Niles copper saw the FOP sticker and asked who was the police in her family and she replied it was her father.
He called me on my cell to verify she was telling the truth and let her go. I told him I would take care of the situation when she arrived home and thanked him for his professional courtesy.
Historically Niles has been a no nonsense town when it comes to moving violations and I always told her to be extra careful when driving through there. With the high cost of teenage auto insurance, that Niles copper did me a huge favor.

Um... as the police you seem to get stopped by other police an awful lot. Maybe you could do a review show reporting on how officers in Lincolnwood, Skokie, and Morton Grove act when they pull over chronic speeders… who happen to be cops.

Just for the record, Niles Police pulls over a lot more of us than we do them. You really want to start a war over a G/F getting a ticket? Whether he had a bad day, she was out of line, or a combination of the two, eat it. They have ALWAYS been decent, same with Park Ridge and Skokie for that matter.

Is the city going to hire 1,000 more cops or maybe they will take away the cruisers and make you walk the beat eh. That will put 1,000 more cops on the street. Be careful what you assumes.

You are definitely Brust then. He was the biggest asshole and NEVER EVER spoke to any of us. I worked on 5 for 2 years and saw him many times every day throughout each week. This asshat never once said hello to me other than the one time he saw me talking to Ald. Burke in uniform and he spoke. Fuck you! I did not say a word. Out of respect I would speak to anyone regardless of rank. He had the worst attitude of all Exempts. Also, he treated the minority Exempts the same fucking way. Comm. Lopez and I have been friends for years and long before that shit when Dugan dumped him and he was reassigned, I would always stop downstairs for whatever meetings they held at HQ so I could say hello to him and whoever else I knew. They ALL said the same thing, he was such an ass to them and never spoke to them either!
Fuck you very much, but fuck Brust. He never should have been collecting a check from CPD in the first place. What did he bring to our department, nothing! Any organization of this size would take the average genious three years to understand the culture and the ins and outs. I was stopped by Niles PD about 2 days before starting the academy for speeding. I apoligized for speeding and explained that I would be starting the academy in a couple days. He responded "You would look pretty stupid with a ticket instead of a license wouldn't you?" I said yes and he gave me my license back. Niles has ALLWAYS been good to CPD in my experience. I'm sorry that you had a bad run in but that is definately not the norm with Niles. They are usually a very class act.

Been tried before, when the true facts are known it was dropped. It was learned that a small number of people do the most abuse, the demographics of those would have people screaming profiling.

How many times have ODPO drive through Niles, Park Ridge and Skokie like assholes then expect a break? They do extend breaks but there are limits. Even in the city, ODPO drive like goofs. There has to be limits. Niles frequently extend breaks to the immediate family members. But friends, neighbors and co-workers? Give me a break. A few years ago I stopped a car and the driver dropped my name! He couldn't see my nameplate. He started telling me that he and the PO (me) were good friends. Turns out that he knew a friend of a friend of mine, but we had never met before.
If someone is close enough to me that I would ask a fellow officer for a courtesy on their behalf, that person would certainly have my cell phone number; and if the officer chooses not to give them a break, it is his or her call, end of story!

Dana Starks brought him back as a director in the 1st deputies office, Roman then got his son Micke on the mayoyrs detail, a kid that never did any police work with little time on the job, next will have to be Romans' wife, a PO. who has been a pampered little queen since she has been on the job, a pretty little thing who has flaunted her stuff about police headquarters for years and is not too proud of screwing over anyone. Scared stiff of the streets. Dump all these folks and get back to basics.
Hands down, Chief Rivera is one of the best bosses I've known. He has always spoken about making sure the troops are taking care of. Even in his position as Chief of IAD he goes out and work. He is definitely not afraid of the streets. I'm sure many of you have run into him on the street or heard his call sign on the radio requesting for an assist. We should be praising him for his dedication to the department. I'm sure if he were ask about being in IAD, it wouldn't be his TOP choice. He is one boss that I can say care about the troops; will do what he can to help within reason.
Is he taking Capt. Ruthie with him? Gotta have someone to put the squeeze on for front row seats!!!
I still say that he should have taken Bill Cozzi's place in the Federal Penn. Of all people, he should have known better.

Stop spreading this bullshit! Gates send MILLIONS of $$ to colleges and universities that have very few 'black' or 'brown' students attending. His money is spread very well among a large group of institutions of higher learning, traditional universities, historically black colleges, even the Ivy League schools. Only a fool would believe that one of the richest men on this planet would exclude whites from having access to educational funds.
Stop spreading lies about Gates. Anyone who wants a college education can get one if they truly want one, regardless of color. $$ aren't as plentiful as they once were, but there's money out there.

Got news for you! Those days are over. The days of "respect" and understanding from other cops CPD or non CPD are long gone. There are only a handful of us left. I can tell you that I will always be that guy regardless of how it's imposed upon me and my family. I hate to say it but almost all the new generation of police don't understand the importance of loyalty to each other. For many it's just a job and a check.

Try stopping a drunk off duty PO. He MF you and then expects a courtesy? Where is the mutual respect? Loyalty to those that deserve respect. If you are stopped then show respect. BTW try to not speed and avoid the problem. Posting a star number in the blog is a chicken shit coward act. Why should they extend a courtesy to such assholes?

OT: A friend of mine's girlfriend, who he lives with, was stopped for speeding 8 blks from their home, while she was on her way home from work, by a Niles Police Officer - Badge #170. She did what we all tell our loved ones... be respectful and inform the officer that they are married to, engaged to, live with, dating, whatever... with a Chicago Police Officer. She further told him she was on her way back home to her daughter who had an ear infection and was hurrying to get back. She also apologized, like she had been told to do. So what did he do??? He wrote her the ticket for speeding and took her license for bond. NILES PD WRITES CPD FAMILY TRAFFIC TICKETS!!! So much for professional courtesy!!!
Hey Office you called out the Niles Cop that gave you the ticket leaving his star number on the blog...why don't you be a Man and at least leave your star number or appologize to the Niles Cop here on the blog. Seems the fair thing to do....

Who really cares about your Niles police story. She was wrong period. Where do they drawn the line, family yes and now every "friend". I was stopped years ago by CPD and I was on my way to the academy. I got a lecture, too bad, I was wrong!!

Not surprised. I was stopped for a minor traffic violation and this Niles officer lectured me with my 8 year old kid in the car. Unfortunately, there is very little professional courtesy these days. Other than CPD, I don't expect it. He was a total Dick!

Regarding the professional courtesy, as I patrol the mean street of Caldwell Ave. from time to time, I know at least half of my stops will be either CPD or CFD. Family first, live in girlfriends don't count unless if there's some baby mama drama involved. I try to extend the courtesy to first cousins, 2nd and 3rd cousins need not waste their time.
To the guy who is the Chicago Police Officer who's girlfriend was stopped. Is it really necessary to tell her to tell the offier that you(the boyfriend)is a Chicago Police Officer? Really? Would it make a difference if she were to just say my boyfriend is a police officer. At that point, the officer would more than likely ask for what dept. etc. This is point in which to cop can either issue the ticket or give the verbal warning and problem solved. By the way, no need in putting his badge number out there. That only makes you look like the jag-off.
To the guy complaining about his girlfriend getting a ticket by a Niles Cop, here's an idea: MARRY HER! Now she's your wife and not the flavor of the month.

Did I keep you from eating your Portillo's while the dogs were still warm? How about not flying 59 in a 35 in the rain with a child in the car. I want you to be safe especially with your kid in the car. If you want to drive like the "offenders" we POLICE and risk your life do it witout the kid and not in my town.
