- Gov. Pat Quinn and top Democrats are pressing forward on a major income-tax increase and a $1-a-pack hike in cigarette taxes.
The personal income tax rate would rise from 3 percent to 5.25 percent, Senate President John Cullerton said this evening. The amount tracks with what the Tribune reported today. After four years, it would fall to 3.75 percent, he said.
The corporate tax rate on businesses would rise from 4.8 percent to 8.4 percent.
Get ready for corporate employers to flee the state in droves, saddling everyone else with the "projected" revenue streams. And then there's this tidbit:
- The plan also would provide $325 in property tax credits this year and a direct check to taxpayers in subsequent years.
So they're taking more money from us, then refunding it back to us? And we're supposed to be grateful for this why? Why not just stop taking our money and mailing it to the leeches?
And if we remember, Quinn campaigned on raising the income tax from 3% to 4.5% and still won by a narrow margin. Now he's going to raise it to 5.25%? We can't wait to get the hell out of this state.

Right now there is no income tax on retirees in Illinois. We shall see if this changes. When I retired I built my new house in NW Kane County. My real estate taxes are a little higher than if I stayed Chicago but my lot is four times the size of my Chicago lot. All our roads are in excellent shape and better yet--none of our tax dollars go the the Chicago Public School system, Cook County corruption or the Stroger crooks. Watch businesses flee from Illinois with this increased corporate tax rate.

The fact that the state of Illinois feels they can give our money to every cause that will help the down and out, drug addict, non citizens of this country and every liberal cause they deem important. I don't think it was the concept of the makers of the constitution that those they work should take care of the freeloaders for life.
I do realize there is a need to help those that fall on bad times. I think unemployment is a great cause for my tax dollar as long it goes to those that have shown a history of employment. I think free medical treatment (not insurance) is a good use of my tax dollars. I wish you would really look at government give aways and realize the working class can no longer afford most of them

3% to 5.25%, so your 2% raise on 01Jan11 is gone + another .25%. On top of that the corporate tax goes from 4.8% to 8.4%. The corporate tax will be passed on to consumers. Consumers will see prices for goods continue to rise. So, in effect, the real increase Illinois citizens will see is 2.25% + 3.6%, for a total of 5.85%. Illinois government is playing "chicken" with businesses. How many corporation doing business in Illinois are going to close shop and move to more business friendly states? Loss of jobs will increase in Illinois due to this legislation. Illinois is precariously teetering on the verge of bankruptcy and this isn't going to help.
What makes this more of a smack in the face to the working man is that you know the Illinois Legislature doesn't have the courage to cut spending. All this "new" taxation money will be spent on things other than paying the Illinois deficit. Tax and spend, the Democrat way.

Some are advocating dropping residency,sorry it is not such a "bright"idea! The tax base would rapidly erode,our neighbors especially the old who stay beacuse "I have a copper,or fireman"close will go,many coppers will lose bigtime! Think the burbs are better sorry little boys and girls taxes are huge and welcome all the section 8 shit and you have the same as here only hirer taxes! Put me in the stay in city category! If you want to move out then find another department "Yea that's the ticket"! Hairgel on sale at CVS buy some!

Get used to the fact that city workers don't mean shit in the big scheme of things in this city. If half of the cop families moved, it wouldn't mean shit to anyone. Others would buy the property and still pay the taxes.

It's going to take everyone getting involved if we ever want things to change otherwise the Machine will never lose.
This should not be happening Brady won I believe 92 out 0f a 102 districts and still lost because of this City/County.
