Navy Pier will be leased to a freshly minted nonprofit corporation entrusted to manage and revitalize its operations under a plan announced Wednesday.
The agency that owns both the pier and McCormick Place, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, would retain ownership of the pier, which is billed as the Chicago area’s largest tourist draw. The arrangement would be similar to the nonprofit governance of other institutions on public land, such as Lincoln Park Zoo and the Museum of Science and Industry.
- The pier would be governed by a separate 13-member board of civic leaders, many with deep ties to Mayor Daley. Reilly’s appointees to the board include Nora Daley, the outreach director for the civic group Metropolis 2020 and daughter of the outgoing mayor.

Major Gambling Expansion Bill Sent To Illinois House
Lawmakers around the US have used the start of new legislative sessions as a springboard in the past couple of years for gambling expansion. That was evident again today with legislators around the country unveiling gambling expansion plans in their first days back to work.
No state saw a bigger bill proposed than Illinois. The Illinois House Executive Committee sent a bill to the House floor that would add five new casinos in the state if approved. The legislation was largely a bi-partisan effort at a time when partisan politics have become the norm in Illinois.
Democrats and Republicans are locked in a bitter feud over several major issues in Illinois, but the gambling expansion bill somehow passed the Committee by an 8-3 bi-partisan vote. The city of Chicago would be the biggest winner in the new bill.

Does anyone remember that Larry Warner (convicted with George Ryan) had a seat on the McPier Board? He was paid handsomely for that directorship. I wonder if that board will be replaced by the new board - or will there be 2?
Could Nora Daley be the next Mayor Daley?
Well, the Pier seems like a good venue for a casino, but feasibility studies have been done. Pier was found to be to small to put a casino in.
Now factor in the Lakeside center of McCormick Place. Its an obsolete building that sits unused 300 days a year. Now over the last 5 years(or so) MPEA has spent a few million in upgrades to the infra-structure at the Iconic black building sitting on the East-side of LSD. 2 of the upgrades that make you wonder WHY is the MPEA spending the money or WHAS going on here. #1- 1.5 million spent on upgrading the Kitchen/Food facilities i.e. Viking Commercial appliances, and #2- Re-wiring the Halls with Fiber Optic/High-Speed Data communications and Security Center.
Lets also add the Press Conference celebrating Bally Gaming's 100 anniversary at the Pier attended by the Governor, Mayor and the Big behind the scenes movers/shakers and politicians.
My money is on Lake-Side Center.
I don't get what is so damn attractive abouy Navy Pier anyway. Why is it such a draw? My wife loves to go there numerous times a year. I went with her about a week before Christmas. It still sucks. Same crappy stores, same crappy restaurants. Of course, she can't explain it other than that there is something wrong with me for not being in love with Navy Pier. Worse in the summer. A few more attractions open but way too crowded and too expensive.

Nope, no casino at Navy Pier......land based casino at McCormick Place lakeside center.....infrastructure in place, makes a pull for conventioneers.....that's where I'm placing my $20 bet...

Come on now. We know that Nora Daley is an expert at large piers on huge freshwater lakes with Ferris Wheels and are large tourist draws.
There probably was no one in the city who could do the job as good as Nora Daley.
Notice too that she is using the Daley name and not her married name of Conroy. As Daley they will be shitting themselves to open her doors and carry her bags.

Don't forget the pre-wiring for slot machines.
Probably someone in the Daley family will be required to run it. No one else could. Assisted by some guys with vowels at the end of their names and noses pushed over to one side and nicknames like batts, knuckles, killer, etc.
I am afraid to even think about what "Nora Daley, the outreach director for the civic group Metropolis 2020" has in mind for us all, except that I instinctively know it will be further mad "initiatives" to grow the "Sanctuary City" while crushing and driving out the remaining working poor and extracting the last property tax dollars from the retired elderly.
Chicago -- as seen from the viewpoint of "190 North." New restaurants every week, exciting boutiques, glittering gallery openings...what a breathless whirl of excitement!

Has anyone checked out Metropolis 2020? I went to their website. What a crock of shit!! Check it out. When Masters and JFled get tossed out they will probably end up at Metropolis 2020 where they can share their extensive knowledge of BULLSHIT!! Nora Daley listed as Outreach Director but no bio...hmmm I wonder why? Everyone involved in this bullshit thinktank has serious credentials and here is Nora tucked away as Director of Outreach. Nice.
