Rahm Stays on Ballot

Saving a court challenge, Rahm now remains the front runner:
  • Rahm Emanuel won another round Tuesday in his battle to stay on the ballot for Chicago mayor, but those trying to knock him off vowed further appeals that could take weeks.

Early voting begins Jan. 31, and it's unclear whether the legal process will be finished by then. Veteran elections attorney Burt Odelson said he will file an appeal Wednesday of Cook County Judge Mark J. Ballard's decision. If Odelson loses at the Illinois Appellate Court, he said, he will take the case to the state Supreme Court.
Shortshanks wants Rahm to run, therefore the Election Board decision was a done deal. Shortshanks owns the judges in Cook County, therefore the court decision was pretty much preordained. We can't see this case getting to a high enough court quickly enough to prevent Rahm from running, and you can rest assured, every dirty precinct trick in the book will be in full force this Election Day.

He wont need any dirty tricks...He will be the only one running by then...

Everybody knows that Shortshanks doesn"t own Rahm. Rahm and his people own Shortshanks and President Osama. If Shortshanks didn't get out of the way for Rahm he would end up just like Rostenkowski. Rahm will finish robbing Shitcago and run it into the ground into another Detroit.

What's the connection between Rham's mayoral run and Daley's brother being eye-balled for the President's chief or staff.....Rham's old position??? Hmmm

If you think you got fucked bad by Shortshanks, wait until a real pro like Rahm-bo gets his hooks into city hall. That Clinton is coming to Chicago to help him get out the vote should be a danger sign of epic proportion. "Scum of a feather travel together".

Sorry to burst your bubble, there's case law in Illinois going back to the 1860's regarding residency challenges. The law is on his side, no sinister chicanery is afoot.

"Rahm Stays on Ballot"
---

Did anyone think it would go differently? This was decided by a Cook County Judge who would keep Rahm on the ballot no matter what.

Since when does "The law" have anything to do with what happens in court in Chicago? Have you been living under a rock? Go to court much here? Case law, that's a real laugher.

Wait till it gets in front of Judge Ann Burke, she will do the right thing all right.

What is Odelson trying to prove? The fix is in. This is Chicago and all he is doing is going against people who could really fuck with him later. With Meeks out, what's the point? Unless Odelson has another agenda.

It depends on exactly how you interpret this law. I think he's no longer a resident because he rented his house out and didn't live here. That law was written to protect MILITARY VETERANS, not people like Rahm. All of you know all about that invisible wall separating the government from religion, don't you? Well, it doesn't exist in the founding documents. Look all you want, it's not there. Abortion isn't there either, but we have that also. Just like the 14th amendment was written to protect blacks from discrimination, not to protect illegal aliens. But we see how the 14th is interpreted now and I'm sure Rahm will be mayor because they will decide it's legal for him to run. We keep misinterpreting the constitution and the amendments and we're going to be doomed by it.

why is not the burden to prove residency on Rahm himself?

Ah Rahm .... took like $18M for a year-and-a-half's work brokering a deal for COmEd after he left public office. what a guy.

you are totally wrong. He is using the military leave as his out and way to stay on the ballot. Leaving to work for the President is not defined as "Military Duty" If this goes to the State Supreme Court I believe there is a strong likelihood he will be kicked off the ballot. If he stays on the ballot every cop and fireman can fight the city in court about living in the city. This could have a major impact regardless of the decision.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we are getting the "Rahmfather" shoved down our throats, whether we like it or not?

1/05/2011 08:32:00 AM

As I said before, if Rahm is allowed to run, and with the new definition of "residency", every city worker, Police and Fireman can reside in a suburb, rent their house out in the city, leave a box in the basement and say "I will eventually go back to the city home, maybe when the kids are out of college", and there's nothing the city can say. They are redefining residency...whats good for Rahm is good for us.

So does this mean Police and Firemen and all city employees could own a house or condo in Chicago and rent it out? Then the same employees could move out of Shitcago to a nice suburb and not get fired for residency requirements as we are still paying property taxes and keep voting from there! Then are children could go to decent schools without the same city employee paying a huge tab for there childs education since Shitcago schools suck! Oh thats right that just applies to politicians (Thieves)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chicago on the Potomac

No matter how you rearrange President Obama’s inner circle, it still looks, smells and tastes like a rotten Chicago deep-dish pizza.....

The Emanuel appointment was the first honest indicator that the Obama White House had a new Washington address:

1600 Chicago Way.

Could this effect our "residency" requirement if Rham is elected? At the very least the city may have to define how many nights a week we have to sleep in the city to maintain our residency.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The law clearly is on the side of Rahm on this residency issue. The interesting comment by the judge? "having a place to sleep does not determine residency" The FOP should make a run at Springfield and get that state law that prohibits them from bargining on residency striken from the books. It is about time Chicago comes into the new century and hires the best employees from around the region and allows them to live were they choose.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this has ANYTHING to do with case law or STATE law at all.

What IS in question and being debated is the City of Chicago MUNICIPAL ordinance that REQUIRES candidates to PHYSICALLY RESIDE IN CHICAGO for the immediate 12 month period prior to a municipal election. The local Demo-thieves passed this as one more guarantee that it would be much more difficult for anyone to run against and defeat the incumbent candidates.

I own a time share in the Bahamas, does that make me a Bahamaian? Renting your home doesn't constitute permanent residency elsewhere. He's no different than elected officals residing in D.C. while Congress is in session.

1. Residency should be interesting. Will "mayor" Rahmbo demand his police and fire people live in Chicago? Like he did?
2. Talk to firefighters: Rahm told their union leaders our pensions are something the city can neither afford nor desire to pay to us! We'd better do all we can for Chico & hope fr the best!

Mark Kirk Supports Bill Daley For White House Chief Of Staff, Durbin Calls Him 'A Great Fella'

Some Illinois politicians joined the chorus of pundits this week, chiming in on whether they think former Commerce Secretary Bill Daley should be President Obama's next chief of staff.

Daley is the Midwest chairman for JPMorgan Chase and head of corporate responsibility at the bank. The Chicago native is also Mayor Richard M. Daley's brother and a close friend to White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod, Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. He would also be replacing Rahm Emanuel, the frontrunner in the race for Chicago mayor.

Illinois Senate approves major Medicaid reforms

Posted by Monique Garcia at 7:55 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD --- The Senate voted 58-0 today in favor of major changes to the state's Medicaid system long-sought by Republicans who say they must be coupled with other budget reforms before they would consider supporting an income tax increase.

Under the proposal, Medicaid applicants would be required to prove Illinois residency as well as prove one month's income before they could sign up. Recipients would no longer be automatically re-enrolled and those abusing the system could face a $2,000 fine.

All that time and money spent to create a new law to prove Illinois residency for medicaid, and so far it looks like all you need is for someone in Chicago to put a shopping bag of stuff that could be yours in their basement and **poof** you're a resident.
