LEADS Certification?
Is this true? Is this even possible?
- CPD lost its LEADS certification today. Anybody know where the last microfiche issue is and a reader? I need to run a tag.
This would be embarrassing if true.

If this is true the beat guy is really going to suffer. The LEADS certification test is the only legit test I took on the job.
We are seriously screwed.
Wouldn't this fall under that worthless Daley ball-warmer Murphy's division? Since he has little to do besides tracking who has and hasn't taken their required NIMS classes, one would think his office could keep up with the LEADS certification for the Dept. also.
I mean, we've all got to do more with less in today's economy, right?
the records division is responsible for leads certification. a civilian runs the records division. probably doesn't know the importance of leads certification. god help us.
I'm not worried. I don't even turn on the PDT anymore. Most of the time they don't work anyway.

If in fact this is true, the hidden devil in the details would not be so much the loss of leads certification but how the fuck did it happen?
Was it an "oops" or was it by design?
Somebody WAAYYY up the chain of command owns this in it's entirety but look for an unclouted person to be publicly lynched.

OT: But heard that the two coppers from 023 3rd watch that DUI'd an 85 year old retired po yesterday were staking out the old folks homes in the district today hoping to catch another golden oldie that drank too much eggnog.

That is for real. You could pull the tapes. Why a sgt doesn't intervene and tell him that he is a policeman not employed by LAZ is beyond me. He is the king of calling stuff out over the radio but is too scared to put his 20 year brand new unused cuffs on anyone.

Probably a combination of administrative deadlines missed, record keeing violations and dissemination rule mistakes & corruption.
If you want to hear what's wrong with OEMC dispatch listen to zone 11 3rd watch & midnights.
Solution : hire retired P.O.'s to not only dispatch but take calls and let calltakers communicate with dispatchers in real time.
this will cost more but, like most things, you get what you pay for.
Back in the 70's the city forgot to renew it's FCC radio licenses for the zones and they operated illegally for a few days until they could get a SPECIAL renewal from Washington!
What? I can't run plates now?? What do I do now when I make a traffic stop? How do I handle that 5 car accident the dispatcher just gave me?

If true, maybe it was because someone who either didn't take the test or took the test and failed (twice)got caught using LEADS.
According to LEADS OPERATOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM: Operators who fail to recertify by their
certification expiration date are no longer considered certified and will have their LEADS access
revoked. Moreover, agencies with operators accessing LEADS without a valid LEADS certification
risk termination of the agency’s LEADS access.
Who needs it anyway ? You don’t need LEADS to tell you if the subject of a ghetto traffic stop is unlicensed or wanted. They all are !

Listen 2 year warrior. If he has cuffs that are almost as old as you, I'm sure he's put them on a few people. I don't yet have 20 years on and the city is lucky that I still even want to write a parking ticket. You may look at things a little differently when you get older and have been doing this shit for 20+ years. If that traffic crash was so important why didn't you go over the air and volunteer to handle it? Were you too busy going through the pockets of a smelly crackhead looking for a pipe with residue in it?

For years the LEADS certification has been a problem. Usually in getting bosses (especially exempts) to take the test and pass. I agree that it is probably the most legit test given by CPD but it is also the most ignored.

85 year olds probably shouldn't be driving anyway, let alone bombed off their ass. Go ask the Area 1 dick or the kid from 005 if they would have preferred to get a DUI ticket instead of now spending the better part of the rest of their life in prison because they killed people in drunken traffic crashes. Ask them if all those coppers who gave them a pass all those years they were driving drunk around the city really did them a favor.

Check the Legal Affairs Bulletin - Rule 14 Violations.
Gives a few examples of what's not allowed.

A jagoff award to the 023 PO this morning on Magnolia ticketing the cars of moms and dads that were temporarily parked in front of the day care center (with flashers) while they run their pre-schoolers into the building.
It was so cold that this jerk wouldn't even get out of the SUV to post the ticket. He pulled up on the wrong side of the road and reached out the window to place the citations on the vehicles.
If it was too cold for you imagine how that mom and three year old felt!

Guy is just following the 'unwritten' rules. Traffic accidents do not generate revenue for the city, parkers do. Even if LAZ gets a cut, the parkers still generate $$$ for Shortshanks.

You can take the test online and all you need it CPD confirm your an employee to have access via computer in station but no way you find the guy responsible to make that notification.
Any tips and clue as to who that is and where he hides??

I don't know where you work...or for how long...I'm guessing 023 But it's been like that for as long as I can remember! If your jealous, then beg and plead the W/C to let you work traffic enforcement to avoid writing traffic crashes! I for one would rather write a T/C once in a while than do nothing but write books of parkers everyday! They take the burden off the beat guy.

The city of Chicago is the only agency not using LEADS 2000. Chicago pays for LEADS 2000 and also pays extra to keep the old LEADS active. Basically paying twice as much for half the service. The Chicago way.

I heard that the current recruits cannot even log into the clear database and leads system. The dtatbase was wiped out and recruits lost any access. Then the recruits ready to enter the districts tomorrow lost access to Leads system. What is going on at the academy? FUBAR? SNAFU! Help!

The problem is a common one with the City of Chicago. They didn't pay the vendor who maintains the various database systems. Many things on CLEAR etc are old due to non-payment to the vendor. An exempt told me this. Typical City of Chicago bullshit and then they blame it on someone who wonders why he got hit with the boulder.
Pay the goddamn bill and the computers will be OK.

I work a beat car in a district near you with 6 schools on my beat. I wouldn't be there long if I started hammering moms and dads who are dropping the kids off at school.
Let's see, any PO's and their families have kids who get dropped off and picked up at school? Do you always park legally and get your own ass, fat or not, walking to take junior to school? And if a PO got a parking ticket while having the flashers on that PO would be on the blog in an instant mother fucking the copper who did it giving name, star number, employee number and calling that copper out and generally cussing out the officer.
I give people parking courtesy, morning & afternoon, and I always will. If I see something genuinely out of hand, I deal with it but I am not going to start generating revenue by slapping parkers on parent's windows just for dropping their kids off at school.
While parents are taking care of family business, burglars are looking for something to steal. Do something constructive in the morning, catch a thief.
