Hopefully he won't get their support.

99%of us us are looking forward to fled leaving but what is the real time line on this? I believe his contract expires March 1. The Mayoral primary is Feb 22 and the runoff if needed April 5. What is Shanks last day in office? If fled does not have his contract extended by the mayor is he automatically out on March 1 or is he going to stay until someone else is actually named interim supe? I can't wait for this POS to be gone.

One final change will be that the utility belt will be eliminated after it has been proved to cause a variety of ailments in officers over the past thirty years or so. Several lawsuits have pointed this out in court. The belt was always too bulky anyway. Another change is several more higher calibers in some guns deemed for department issue. The tact teams will have more leeway through a variety of community incentive programs. Maybe 2011 will be a better year.

Why didn't the FOP ask the mayoral candidates in the survery about "defining merit" in coming promotions. I can't imagine anything on this dep't that has ruined it or been more demoralizing than people promoted just b/c of who they know. That should be one of the highest priorities. We need to know what we need to do to get that merit spot. Is it b/c the fop gets to slip their picks in too? Are they in on the scam? Sure seems like it otherwise why wouldn't they have pushed for this years ago?

Strange timing but also is it more to do with Shorty spending the last possible money that he can on what is really "streetscaping."

Are these millions of dollars being spent really needed for public safety or is it just another beautification project.

Look for all the bosses that hate Leo Schmitz to move against him in March. One plan being considered is disbanding the GEU to fill the many open bid spots in the busier districts. Of course superbids will be offered but with fewer spots open in slower districts it will be a mad scramble to get what you can. Leo has been offering up his "Unit" to work what ever hours are needed this summer to combat the increasing violent crime. Anything to keep his gold star. But his disregard for the chain of command and his constant stealing of credit for many many things has caught up to him. The proof that this is happening will be the slow subtle exit of peple from GEU in the next three months. These are the ones that know what is about to happen and are attempting to find spots before the disbanding. This was overheard in Leo's office coming from a AM. If by chance it doesn't happen, expect to work nights almost the entire summer with adjusted hours (2000-0500) on weekends. Just a sample of what Leo is volunteering his troops to do. If you know Leo, you know this is how he operates. Good luck.

If they take the police away from good neighborhoods where people don't call for bullshit in favor of people who call the police for anything then it will be a travesty.

Spend the money and buy a nylon duty belt with nylon holsters, mag case, radio holder, etc. Weighs about 1/3 of a leather belt. Buy a Glock or other striker pistol, they weigh about 1/2 to 1/3 as much at a regular, steel pistol.

She has no concerns except for herself not a leader but a follower! She knows how to take away from the troops why is a lt doing a job a sergeant could EASILY do?

A large weather change is coming tuesday/thursday. That usually dumps lots of flu virus on the city ahead of the cold front.

Numerous new cases of influenza, many severe, ought to be showing up around thursday in the AM hours.

Make your doctor appointments early, just in case, the last 5 or 10 on the seniority list in each slow district should pay particular attention to their health. You folks are about to get a lesson in CPD 101 and discover power you didn't know you had. And it isn't at the end of a phone cord.

... That UTILITY BELT was responsible for my hip surgery. The doctor told me how can you guys wear that thing, let alone run in that belt? I told the FOP ten years ago that it is a safety hazard for the hips and the FOP said diddly squat. Where else are you supposed to carry all your gear? I know we don't need all that shit will be your next comment. You could say that about everything we carry/wear- the vest, gun, extra mags, pepper spray, flashlight, cuffs -sometimes multiple pairs, asp/batton, radio, tazer, etc. You may not need all of those but over half are necessities. Where else can you put them? Look at all the shit swat wears, they look like they'd be a turtle on its back if you pushed them over. Tools of the trade, you can't be a Barney Fife carrying an empty gun on your side and 1 bullet in your pocket!

I'm a big advocate of not driving drunk, I don't think the retired copper neccessarily was. He was 81, diabetic and only stopped for no headlights, not erratic driving. Is no headlights an indicator of drunk driving, sometimes. But it could also be an indicator of being 81, diabetic and a human being. "Sir, lets take a ride by Thorek Hospital and have you checked out and then we'll take you home." That would have a nice ring to it. By the looks of the arrest report its going to be laughed out of court anyway. And I'm going to guess that half of the people that are backing this arrest up drive drunk themselves and/or avoid writing DUIs like the plague. All talk.

Peterson may have been a good guy way back when. But he doesn't like all workers. His kid got drunk and talked smack with an on-duty PO once, and Peterson didn't like that, so he came into the desk in plain clothes with his driver, after our roll call and yelled at that PO in front of the entire watch, cause his kid would never do anything wrong. "He's a good kid." Ha! My kid is a good kid too, but I taught him to respect the Police and if you talk back, you get what you deserve. Once I found out it was Peterson, I lost all respect.

Not B.S. Happened in 012 on Halsted and the kid was not the police at the time. Peterson was Commander of A/4 and came into 012 in plainclothes and called out the copper at the desk. My point is stop bitching about each other, just back each other up and make sure we all go home safe.

About "the kid" ask him. Ask him if his dad ever did it. Who knows if he was drunk or not, that's not the point. The point is that "the kid" was not the police at the time and he was talking back to an on duty officer. That's disrespectful. And to tell your father who then has to go into a station to embarass some copper that's just trying to do his job is a joke. I saw it too and I know everyone on the watch that night saw and heard it also. But what does it matter now? If "the kid" is on the job, he'll probably run into some situation like that himself. But Peterson still should of handled the situation in private and not like a bully yelling at the desk in front of an entire watch!
