Braun's Slow Fade Begins
Chicago mayoral candidate Carol Moseley Braun reported a negative income — $225,908 to the IRS in 2008 — the same year she took out a fourth mortgage on the spacious Hyde Park house she has put up for sale, records show.
The former U.S. senator and ambassador released two-page summary sheets from her 2008 and 2009 tax returns in hopes of quelling a storm that erupted Monday when she said she wouldn’t release any of her tax records before the Feb. 22 municipal general election.
Four mortgages? $785 in taxes on $15,561 in income? Your humble servants here at SCC averaged nearly 5 times that and paid way more in taxes.
We know there are such things as accounting tricks utilized by businesses to avoid paying income taxes and claiming vast losses where one wouldn't suspect they exist (look at Hollywood), but these numbers either show a complete financial basket case or a connected insider using every accounting trick known to mankind to avoid paying taxes.

Harold Washington was jailed for forgetting to pay his taxes on his April 15th birthday; for several years. She's an All-Star by those standards.

Don't forget she tried to rip off Public Aid (which her mother was on--living on the public's dime in a nursing home)when she hid almost $30,000 from a windfall from her mother's land in Alabama. She got caught and had to pay restitution, but she didn't get charged for some reason......I wonder why?

Sell them both a few more times to some foreigners with dough, then we take the money and Braun gets run out of office! Ought to be worth a few billion more and we can lay it on Braun!
Think of the possibilities of having an unabashedly incompetent mayor as Braun.
She should step down and avoid further scrutiny.

CMB is running a campaign for mayor just for the campaign contributions she'll get to keep. Not a plug nickel has been spent, yet she is still having fundraisers. Love to see that list of donors. Bet she buys a new ride come April, hell with paying her creditors.

I'm guessin a ton of trickery goin on to avoid paying taxes. How she got so many mortgages with thoses wages and losses I don't know. I'm going to guess the bank(s) are going to eat the losses. You can be regular joe schmoe would have been told to take a hike. Perhaps this campaign will fill her shoe boxes with some needed splash. One of the comment sections from one of the city papers says she came to an electronics store and bought thousands of dollars of goods with cash.

I really hate Rahm, but you've got to admit with him as Mayor this City would have almost unlimited Federal funds. Might be the only way to save our pensions. Besides, it's not like he could be any dirtier than Daley!
CMB was a disaster in her previous positions and accomplished NOTHING except blatant raping of the system.
I like Chico the best, but I still think the lure of Fed $$$ is a smart reason to bet on Rahm.
