What's This Crap?

  • Former Gov. George Ryan was allowed to leave his prison cell and visit his ailing wife in her hospital for two hours Wednesday evening, prosecutors said today in a motion in which they opposed his release on bail.

The visit came on the same day Ryan's lawyers had filed a bail motion for Ryan. In making that motion, they said Lura Lynn Ryan had only weeks to live.

The disclosure of the visit came in a court filing by prosecutors responding to Ryan's motion.

  • "Thus, through normal prison procedures, Ryan has been able to visit with his wife," the government said. "The district court correctly determined that Ryan should not receive treatment that other defendants would not receive based on his wife's medical condition."
Since he got his visit, now he can serve the rest of his time without Thompson braying to the media and the courts about how unfair life is for Ryan.

Thompson's braying is not about Ryan or his wife, it is a message to the rest of 'The Combine' (that he established) that 'The Combine' will go to the wall for you so there is no reason to cooperate with the Feds.

That said, let him be with his wife in her last hours, then back to prison. Wouldn't you want the same mercy?

"Ryan's lawyers fired back early this afternoon with a filing to the appeals court in which they termed as "shabby behavior" the government's decision to disclose the former governor's hospital visit with his wife"

HAH! That's rich! Lawyers accusing other lawyers of "shabby behavior". What a joke!

A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Prisons said that there was no reason the government could not release the information.

Nuff said! Now the felonious ex-Gov can go to his grave knowing that he was given the opportunity to say good-bye to his wife, who's life has been a living hell due to HIS illegal behavior. He's received more courtesy than he deserved and certainly more that the dead Willis childen ever got!

I think Ryan should serve his sentence. His orginal sentence was reduced from 10 years to 6.5 because of his age and health. I also think he should receive visitation to his dying wife, at least weekly. This is the just and human thing to due. He is not a flight risk, they havebeen together 50 years. It is compasionate. But, no early release and no bail. And the hell with Thompson, who is part of the problem in Illinois.

I am surprised at the number of people who say it is the compassionate thing to do. That every criminal gets the same consideration. Do they really believe that? Who cares if it is 'white collar' crime. Remember white collar crime is what got our Country in this current mess.

There has to be punishment, real punishment. Half sentences, conjugal visits, early release and parole only diminish the fear people should rightly have about being a criminal.

Things are not getting better. People, as a whole, are basically still animals and will do what they can get away with. If you believe otherwise, you are naive and you will be a victim all your life.

Lots of states will let an inmate out like this, under escort, for a "humanitarian furlough" to see a dying relative or to go to a funeral. That's what happened here.

Ryan and his lawyers are trying to mix this up with the separate fact that Ryan wants to be out on bond -- possibly for years -- as his appeal goes through the courts.

Apples & oranges.

Absolutely, but as a former police officer in jail, do you really think they would sit idly by and let you out for even just a face to face goodbye with a loved one? The courts would say you do the crime, you do the time. The news media would have a field day with something like this if it were a jailed officer!

Poor baby. All due to his own voluntary, illegal actions for personal profit. Some people never have enough money, even if they're the Governor.

A whole family was wiped out -- eight kids burned to death, wasn't it? -- because Ryan sold a commercial driver's license to an unqualified illegal alien.

Sit, George. Sit and watch the paint peel. That's what the jury said.

Ryan visiting his dying wife isn't anything special that hasn't been granted to convicts of far worse crimes. We just don't hear about it.
Remember, the press manipulates what they want especially concerning a Republican.
Ryan did his years for the "crimes" he was convicted of, they are now suing about the "services" charge which was knocked out a while back; so he should be out by now.
Grow up you holier than thouers, he was convicted by a thousand knife cuts and nothing more.
Secretary of State graft has been going on for decades, most 16 year olds getting their first license can attest to that.

What's THIS crap?

Sisters’ Prison Release Is Tied to Donation of Kidney

By TIMOTHY WILLIAMS
Published: December 30, 2010

Two Mississippi sisters serving double life sentences for their roles in an $11 armed robbery will be released, but only on the condition that the younger sibling donate her kidney to her sister, whose organs are failing, state officials said Thursday.

The campaign for the release of Jamie and Gladys Scott from a Mississippi prison included a march on Sept. 15 in Jackson.
Gov. Haley Barbour signed orders suspending the prison terms of Jamie and Gladys Scott after a long campaign of online petitions, blogs, Facebook pages and Internet radio programs rallied support for the sisters’ release.

A Web site called Free the Scott Sisters recently described problems that Jamie Scott, 38, was having in receiving dialysis in sanitary conditions while at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl, where she and her sister Gladys, 36, are being held. Jamie Scott, who has diabetes and high blood pressure, suffered kidney failure in January 2010. She receives dialysis at least three times a week..."

So one armed robber gets a new kidney from another armed robber.

Fill in blank -- society benefits_____________________.

No shortage of snack foods or hair care products -- or the money to buy them -- for these two. You shoulda seen these two porkers on TV. No question about losing a few pounds for health reasons...kidney or no kidney, it's continued morbid obesity, diabetes, and heart failure sooner or later.

The Willis thing is getting old. Let's trace all that has gone wrong, every death, whether accidental or engineered, back to, over and through every person who did any action that contributed to it. Let's then house them all and act like we are not looking in the mirror.

#########################

The Willis thing? You mean the lives of the Willis family children who died a horrible death while their parents and brother watched? That "Willis thing"? The children who died because the truck driver did not know enough to inspect his truck because he never studied for his test because he KNEW that all he had to do was hand the examiner a 50? A 50 that the examiner needed to pay for a fundraiser ticket that he was getting leaned on to buy so Ryan could be elected governor. That "Willis thing"?

Let me ask you a question. If someone sets a series of events into action which result in the death of another, is not that person responsible for a death that results from those events? As a prosecutorial tool, it worked at Nuremburg. As an experienced copper, I understand that any such nexis would be difficult to establish. But it is there nonetheless. If you don't think this is true, think what would happen to you if you had a party at your house, provided alcohol to minors and then one of those minors killed someone on the way home. You could reserve a cell in state prison.

I am sorry that Mrs. Ryan is dying. But time in prison is supposed to be hard. It is punishment. It's not just the time spent inside. It is also about keeping the inmate from enjoying or taking part in the life of his family. Taking part in the happy and the sad.

Rev. and Mrs. Willis will miss some events with their children. Forever.

"The Willis thing". You should think before you say something like that.

Mrs. Ryan never ran for political office, nor did she make any public policy. I think for her sake, he should be allowed to spend some time with her if only to say good bye. If you really think, realize that there are no winners in this situation. Ryan should go back to prison and finish his sentence, but his wife should not pay for his sins.

Really? So you think Mrs Ryan knew nothing about what her husband was up to? They were married for quite some time and he never confided in her while lying in bed or over some "pillow talk"? People want to wash Mrs. Ryan of all guilt in what happended in this state. Really? I wonder what she thought when they did not have to, for years, spend money from their checking accounts? Just like the mob wives who enjoy a better life. Did they think their husbands were going to the office for work? People testified that they handed Mrs. Ryan letters about the corruption. Let George spend a few hours in the hospital saying goodby and then back to prison. No special treatment. It seems the Illlinois combine is trying to send a message that they will help you if you keep your mouth shut. If Ryan really starts to talk it would be interesting. But, he will need some financial support when he gets out of jail and I am sure Thompson will not let him down.

Few know about it who are not involved, but most prison systems have some means by which prisoners can get some kind of furlough for this kind of thing.

AFAIK, the state or the federal government does not pay for any extra costs involved. In some (most/all?) cases there is a requirement that the prisoner be escorted.

Not all prisoners are a serious flight risk. If she is truly dying, I see nothing wrong with him getting a little time to say good bye. In the federal prison system this is very common with prisoners who are a low flight risk. It's almost automatic.

The guy and his wife have been punished about all that they can be punished. Let it go. He will be back to finish his sentence after she passes, or his furlough ends.

BTW, I think that any furlough days do not count as part of one's sentence.
