I do however invite you to meet face to face with a few folks over at 376 or records or the gun registration unit. These folks can enlighten you on how a cop can get his/her life turned inside out based on a brick!

The writer who is saying that residency is a law is talking out of his ass. It might be a city ordinance, that that can be overcome with union negotiations. However, Chicago Lodge 7 is prohibited from negotiating for this by state law. This does not mean that the mayor and city counsel cannot grant it if they wish. Check your facts.

Unfortunately you are the one talking out of your ass. The reason the city can say we must live within its boundaries is due to home rule statue from the state of Illinois. That statue states that any municipality with a population over 1 million has the right to make law governing residency of its employees. Therefore if you get the Illinois Assembly to amend this statue the city has no say in residence. It is the state that has given Chicago this power and the state can take it away.
And guess how many cities in Illinois have over a million?
Get the state to amend this and then we will not be giving up something in a asking the city to let us live out of the city.

Does anyone know if anymore NEW handgun manufacturers models will be approved this year? Also, why were ONLY the 9mm models approved in the KAHR and RUGER models last year? Why not the .45 calibers? The small .45 GLOCK is fine for a concealment gun, but how about more choices. And as long as we are on the subject of guns has it occured to our fine FOP union officials maybe to see if any of the mayoral candidates will just let the CPD have ANY kind of guns without the REGISTRATION FEE imposed on any guns not deemed for DUTY use? If you are in law enforcement, our tools are guns. I used to shoot squirrels with .22 rifles in Ohio where I lived before I came onto this job. That is why I am a crack shot. Now for me to keep that .22 rifle I have to register that gun in the City of Chicago and pay a REGISTRATION FEE even though that is how I learned to shoot to be a police. That's a big portion of our salary. We are tax too much. Florida only taxes payroll just over 1%. And how is it that Florida has no problems with their municipal pensions? Maybe it's a red state?

He was CONVICTED yet the clout baby still has a position with the CPD. Hey Jody, I didn't see him in your last printing of "The Advocate". Daddy was a Commander in 009 (Bridgeport) and he is related to Maurer as well. So Jody/IAD being convicted of pulling a gun on a citizen off duty isn't a fireable offense? I wonder how the VICTIM would feel knowing this KID is still collecting a nice salary to include DUTY AVAILABILITY....hmmmmm.

So Weis's contract is up March 1st- and that means all the commanders promoted in the original mass promotion will soon be heading to their third anniversary and their gold braid pensions. So now that we know who won the ghoul pool, any bets on who doesn't make it to the gold braid pension?

Think long and hard about the residency issue. They are going to talk of repealing the residency law at the same time they try to reduce our pension. It is a distraction. It is not a fair trade, we will get burned.
They are going to try to bamboozle you.
First and foremost, look at the taxes in any decent suburb. They are terrible. Towns that have comparable taxes to Chicago are not places that you want to live or send your children to school in. Travel times are also atrocious. You get what you pay for in the suburbs too. Towns like Des Plaines, Mt. Proapect, etc... are rapidly filling up with Eurotrash and illegal aliens. These places schools are not places for CPD offspring. You won't be able to afford Highland Park or Glencoe on our salary.
The tuitions you pay living in the city end some day, property taxes in nice suburbs never go down.
The only people who will stand to gain if residency is lifted are the developers. Real estate in decent areas of Chicago which is still sinking in value, will plummet even further. The homeowner will be screwed and the developers who think long-term will make BILLIONS on our neighborhoods.
Do not allow them to fool you, look at the history of Chicago, how neighborhoods have been busted out and redeveloped.
Pension, pension, pension...only issue that matters no matter how much time you have on this job.

There should be different requirements on different ranks. Sergeants have different responsibilities than Lieutenants, and Lieutenants from Captains.

This may be long-winded but things are happening that we have no control over and yet we become the victims and suffer the most. This suffering carries over to our family, friends and slowly rots our souls. Politics and pagentry will always rule this profession and we let it eat away at the fibers of each of us. WHY?
Ladies and Gentlemen, we might not be able to change the 'job' but we can change the way we do it. We can change our attitudes and make this job fun again. Fuck all the higher ups who forgot, or never knew, what it meant to be a copper. Fuck all the stress and negitive bagage that comes with toting that type of toxic garbage around with u us. It only adds to our problems, nothing good comes from it...NOTHING!

I hate the newest 2nd watch starting times. Who the hell concluded 0500 is a good start time? WTF! Who the hell wants to wake up at no later than 3:30 am to make roll call? May as well work 1st watch. Unfuckin believable! What was wrong with the old starting times? Hell, even an 0600 (early cars) and (0800 late cars) makes much more sense. For every person I know who likes these starting times, I've heard 4 say they suck. What can be done to possibly get the old times back. I know I'm likely just pissing in the wind, but why not ask?

Last night the Apostolic Church held an appreciation ceremony for police and fire. It was a nice ceremony and the members of the congregation showed their appreciation for the job we as police officers do.
There was a large number of exempts that attended including the Superintendent. All except J-Fed were in uniform. J-Fed decided that the proper attire for a recognition ceremony in church was blue jeans, a mock turtleneck and the new police fleece uniform jacket.
This was a slap in the face to the members of the church who went out of there way to make everyone there feel welcome and appreciated.
As soon as the service was over J-Fed RAN for the exit! He didn't stop to thank anyone from the church for their hospitality nor did he thank the members of CPD for attending.
Dozens from the congregation commented about the attire and quick departure of the Superintendent.
March 1st can't come quick enough!!!

Just exactly who on this ship of fools and in Exempt rank is qualified to run CPD? Think hard...Triple merit promotions for the last 20 years or so. I cant think of a one I would feel comfortable with. Most with connections to the current Mayoral/Aldermanic administration?
We just might need another civilian to force another round of exempt retirements to purge the ineptness and inadequecies of current management.

Those Commanders have to serve a little longer than you think. Because they were forced/ volunteered to take unpaid days (approximately 60) they will have to work that many more before becoming vested. So as you guessed, some of them may not make it.

Coppers are notorious to bitch and sat how other copppers screw up but so often those same ones find themselvez with a brick on them. Easy BBQ Sauce
This makes about 6 quarts so cut it down if you want and try it. Enjoy!!
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup vinegar
2 cups brown sugar
2 pkgs. Williams Chili Seasoning
Bring this to a full boil for 2 minutes, stirring often.
Add:
4 quarts ketchup
2-8 oz. cans tomato sauce
1 t. onion powder
1 t. garlic powder
2-3 tomato sauce cans of water (thin to taste)
1/2 t. liquid smoke
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. red pepper
Bring to a slow boil and boil for 20 minutes, stirring often. Do not scorch. Bottle and refrigerate sauce after cooling. Makes about 6 quarts.
To the 009 district copper who gave me a ticket just before Christmas for standing on 3300 block of Morgan (beat 924)at 9:15 on a Saturday morning. You are a coward. You drive by in your car and send me a ticket by mail! I was sitting in the drivers seat of my car the entire time. You didn't have the courage to tell me to move or hand me a ticket in person. Where you afraid that this old man was gonna tell you what an asshat you are? I was a police officer for over 20 years in the military and I would never have done what you did. You are a Weis trained coward. I have no doubt that you run away from shots fired calls and only respond to call when you are sure someone else will be on scene before you.
If you had half a brain you would have seen the spare tire on the front of my car and knew I was in line to get a flat tire fixed. But no, you drive by and don't say anything. Yes I saw you but you didn't say anything to me. Why didn't you have the courage to just hand me the ticket in person? You are a COWARD!
Yes I was wrong sitting there waiting for the tire repair shop to make room to repair my tire and if you had the courage to hand me the ticket in person I would have been pissed but I would respect you for doing what you thought was right. But to get a ticket in the mail! That is cowardly. Don't say I pulled away either because my car was pulled into the garage and I was there for 30 minutes after waiting in the street to pull in.
You are what gives the real police a bad name. You are fortunate that you are employed by a department that has a large number of real police officers so that you have someone to protect you. You should go work as a Traffic Management Aide instead of CPD.

Um, excuse me duech bag, but just b/c u bought an overpriced bungalow in 016 and r going to have trouble selling it, don't fuck all of us over in the meantime.
I mean why in the world shouldn't I be able to live wherever I want? If I wanna live in highland park and pAy thru the nose in taxes than that should b my choice! Personally I live in a condo in the city and love it. I don't know if I'll ever move, but it sure would b nice to have the option to not be trapped in Chicago. I don't even know what kind of moron u must b to think it would b better for all of us if they didn't lift residency. To the poster about residency: I have a house on the nw side and will gladly sell it immediately and move to the suburbs if residency is lifted. I have 2 kids in high school and a third in jr high. Currently iam paying $30,000 a year to send my 2 high school kids. Each kid is $15,000 a year. If I move to the suburbs, I will save $180,000 on high school alone. The cost of increased property taxes and travel time would never amount to that. In addition, I would move to DuPage Co. And transfer to work in 015. The travel time wouldn't be that bad. Quit being afraid of residency. Not everyone would move out. That's the reality of residency. Its not going to be gloom and doom.

So why is an Area 5 Lt allowed to let one of her employees work on a Holiday when he was supposed to be RDO? Not once (Thanksgiving), but twice (Christmas). This Lt thinks that she can ignore the contract because she ordered this to occur. What about those detectives with more seniority than the red headed step child? Shouldn't they have been given the option to work their RDO first? Is their a grievance brewing here? Who gets left holding the bag when the dust settles? Will Management & Labor Affairs to the right thing? Me thinks this Lt needs to be corralled before she brings the heat to the entire Area. The grieving period should be over by now.

Washington had given us the "Make Work Pay" tax break of up to $400 as a stimulus for the economy in 2009-2010.
That tax break expired and now Washington creates another stimulus by reducing our FICA social security tax by 2% this year.
However, Illinois politician have to find a way to get their hands on that money and feel that the taxpayers won't notice as you don't miss what you never had right?
In other words, the Illinois tax hike of 2% takes away the Washington stimulus of 2% and the money is essentially being taken out of the taxpayers social security fund.
It's a pension theft like the police pension theft.
People that were expecting to take home a little more money will be taking home less money instead.
Not only do they lose the "Make Work Pay" money, $400 dollars, there's an additional state tax to pay now.

Second, the posted who commented on losing our "three day weekends," you're an asshat. The 4-2 schedule was the best thing that happened. I don't want to have to work 6 weeks to get an extra day off. We get more days off per year with the 4-2 schedule. If I'm that hard up to have a three day weekend, I'll drop a slip and take my three day weekend and then work for three more before I'm off again for 2.

Your right. I knew that when I came on. I also knew That my Medical benefits and prescriptions were paid for without extra coming out of my check. I knew that when I retired my medical would be covered by the city for free. I knew that there was no 30 percent merit for Sgt and Lt promotions and Capts had to take a test, not like the fake Capts we have now. I knew that, for the most part, I could be the Police and do what I had to do without being constantly seconded guessed. I knew that if I went into my Commanders Office I would be to to get the hell out. I knew there was a chain of command. I knew , for the most part, the old timers were able to transition into inside spots as they got closer to retirement not like now where kids just out of the Academy work inside spots.
I could go on but my point is that a lot has changed since I signed up for the CPD. The City has no problem changing things for their benefit so why not change residency for our benefit?
You are not rare, I favor the residency for city workers...
So assuming we get a "quality" individual into the Mayors and Supers office.......

Those Commanders have to serve a little longer than you think. Because they were forced/ volunteered to take unpaid days (approximately 60) they will have to work that many more before becoming vested. So as you guessed, some of them may not make it.

I'm not sure that is correct. I was told that as long as they pay thier portion of the pension money had they worked those days it will count towards thier time in grade.
I was also told that they could take the money from defered comp without having to pay a penalty.
Maybe someone from the pension board can clarify this up for us.
Residency is just another smoke screen to take everyone's minds off the real issue-- the pension. City does this nonsense all the time. Have some news outlet leak some BS story to take attention off the real prize.

A politician who claims he is "open" to discussion about it means he wants to curry city worker favor before an election and at contract time will propose it, in exchange for a 10-20% paycut. Think I'm joking? Chico has already stated that he would be willing to take a paycut, whats good for the goose is good for the gander. They aren't going to let this tax base get away without major compensation. For those of you with kids in school, there is a short term reward for living in the suburbs. $180,000 in education might be worth the hit you take on the house, but get ready to move right after they graduate because that 10-15,000 a year in north suburban property tax isn't going to be worth it without a kid in school. Residency is lifted, Chicago prices go down AND suburban prices rise simulataneously. All I'm saying is that its not a clear cut issue and not a no-brainer and in truth will divide pour ranks more so than anything has ever done so in the past.

Unfortunately you are the one talking out of your ass. The reason the city can say we must live within its boundaries is due to home rule statue from the state of Illinois. That statue states that any municipality with a population over 1 million has the right to make law governing residency of its employees. Therefore if you get the Illinois Assembly to amend this statue the city has no say in residence.
Are you forgetting the lil peice of paper you signed going into the academy agreeing to residing in the city?? The legal document you signed!!

Next time, put it on the glass, OK?

Days Suck. I can't tell you how many family gatherings I missed cause I needed to be asleep by 7 or 8 in order to get up for work in the AM. I'm on 1st watch now and it's a lot better. I get to see the kids, and can still make some family obligations. A lot less traffic, no bosses, and a mostly quiet shift. Just need to get a steady sleep pattern down.
Midnights and those that are awake then are very different.

Since this is an open post...I would like to thank the female/4 off duty cop living near 99th and levant for providing my daughter with all of her worldly knowledge when she was involved in a traffic accident with the big ambulance! That's wonderful you heard the siren from inside your house...how about asking if my daughter was ok? Oh, maybe you never heard the render aid first part in your training. Yes my daughter evidently failed to yield the right away at the four way stop...her car was totaled with her in it. Thank god, the paramedics said they weren't hurt and the goof in the back with 5 shots in him apparently survived. Next time stay in your house if your not a witness. A real thank you to the officers who handled the accident, made sure she was ok and gave her the ticket! She's at fault and we understand. Thanks again....oh and to the paramedic who said he was ok, walking around...thanks for the law suit! We have insurance, everything will be covered...but nothing good comes from bad money! Retired Sergeant. And don't worry about me...her dad is rawly pissed! Lol

I could go on but my point is that a lot has changed since I signed up for the CPD. The City has no problem changing things for their benefit so why not change residency for our benefit?

MT was not Martin Tulley, Tulley is a class act, and wouldn't waste his time bitching about an insignificant person like JC. This MT works at HQ, well at least for the next few months, I'll be in detective school by April. Daley is putting one more class in before he leaves.

The real MT is class act unlike the imposter. I for one am glad he's returning to street duty next period. We need him watching our backs especially in 011. The guy is a tough bastard who kicks ass when needed. I just hope he doesn't have to work with young coppers who will throw him under a bus like the 20 team did to him.
