- Police Supt. Jody Weis is forging ahead with plans to reallocate police resources to higher-crime districts — even though all four top mayoral contenders plan to dump him and one voiced opposition to crime-fighting solutions that “divide the city.”
- Ald. Anthony Beale (9th), chairman of the City Council’s Police Committee, said he talked to Weis on Monday and the embattled superintendent assured Beale he’s “moving forward” to honor a promise made and broken by at least four of his predecessors.
“This is the right thing to do. It hasn’t been done in over 30 years. Moving these resources around will give communities that need them the most a better quality of life and bring down crime numbers across the entire city,” Beale said.
“The superintendent is putting the resources where they’re needed to win the battle. Even if he’s out, this is something that needs to stay in place and we need to re-evaluate it on a yearly basis. And if it’s working, it will be virtually impossible for any mayor to undo.”
And now, Beale crowning achievement in bullshit:
All four top mayoral contenders are vowing to dump Weis to reverse rock-bottom morale among the rank-and-file. Emanuel pointed to a “culture of preventive policing” under Weis where officers are “not doing their job because they don’t think anybody has their back.”
Beale fired back in defense of the embattled superintendent.
“For the life of me, I can’t understand why everyone is beating up on the superintendent when crime is at a 40-year low. They should be commending him and encouraging him to do more to fight crime and be creative,” Beale said.
So which lie is the one to defend? Everything is fine and looking good after 40 years? Or J-Fled & Co. have been lying for 3 years with bullshit statistics and crime re-classification, so we're going to strip police protection from the tax payers and give it to the leeches? You can't have it both ways - that is, unless the media lets you get away with it. Again.

This move is simply and very clearly a line JPWeis wants to insert into his resume.
He wants to be able to say he instituted a wonderful 'new' plan to reallocate police resources, via a revolutionary computerized prediction analysis, and crime was reduced.
Of course, he will take credit, out of chronological order, for the supposed crime reduction, but few prospective employers will be the wiser. At this point, it is ALL ABOUT THE RESUME. He couldn't give a damn about what the resulting upheaval is in Chicago, because he is leaving Chicago.

I work in Area 3 and have done my best to stay busy
making arrests if I can or conducting street stops etc. I can guarantee this IF this plan is truly implemented I will cease my pro active mindset and just "do my job" at the bare minimum, who knows if everyone does this perhaps the 019th district could become "crime ridden" , which it already has. Perhaps than we could get the cops we lost back but we all must do this for it to work...foot guys, ticket guys, proactive and non pro active. FYI the 019 district is constantly plagued by burglaries within mere blocks of Alderman Tunneys office, we've had at least two separate Home Invasions near Racine and Barry, armed robberies near Belmont and Sheffield and district wide even a disgusting Criminal Sexual Assault in the alley by Lakewood and Barry that happened around 7pm as the female was walking home from the Belmont and Sheffield. And the 023rd district is now "the ghetto" with the crime all down Wilson avenue and generally the entire district as well. An off duty police officer was almost disarmed by Addison and Clark several days ago, what about the citizens of these districts? They pay some of the highest taxes in the city yet they ARE afforded the least amount of police protection ? If any citizen is outraged by this I am leaving the number to Alderman Tunneys Office, maybe a private citizen or citizens could telephone his office because if WE the police put our name to anything that goes against "the powers that be" there would be retribution and trust me this would be followed by a quickly filed lawsuit. Just sayin'....First Amendment, Lawyer.

In hast and before Shortshanks leave his throne Orosco plans on putting the fireboat crew at the marine unit headquarters which is utilized by the coast guard ,conservation police , and the marine unit. They plan on cramming a full time crew in a rehabbed building that has no additional space . I hope there is room for a boxing ring because this will be better than the balboa vs creed rematch.

They have been redeploying manpower for years. hat is what created TRU and MSF. That has been de facto redeployment.
Now, thanks to Beale's combat zone of a ward they want to redeploy again.
The alderman in those wards better fucking fight like hell, they are all facing elections real soon and people will be very pissed if this happens.
but some aldermen, like Schulter and Tunney, don't care.
Schulter is angling for an appointment to something and Tunney is running unopposed.
They stand to lose officers from 019 and 023.
And 023, a brand new police station, still does not have a working lockup.
The ship is sinking and weis is pulling the last drain plug before bailing out.

i have noticed lately that many of my fellow officers are not charging offenders with burglary when caught rummaging through a vehicle that does not belong to them, they are going with crim trespass to vehicle. if the offender is going through the contents of a vehicle and does not take anything, it's still a burglary because this shows their intent to commit a theft. if they were doing it in a home you would charge them with burglary. all it takes is a quick phone call to the state, and if it's a juvenile you don't even need to do that. maybe this will be the felony they needed to get them housed for some time. thanks.

I don't think they 'fired' all those officers. What they did was shift the COST of those officers to the local municipalities after five years.
When the locals couldn't maintain that payroll level, the numbers were cut again. (Either by attrition or 'downsizing'.)

Its the same reason why agg bat becomes simple bat, strong arm robbery becomes theft, and finally, full circle, PSMV becomes criminal trespass to vehicle.

I love it!!! Maybe they can have a town hall meeting with the thugs, hold hands and sing beatnik fucking peace songs and stick their heads in the sand and it will all go away?
Don't forget to invite all the inside do nothing officers from the " office formally known as Community Policing" who were disbanded only to be given non existing "foot post" or "fixed post" at the local child care center for teens disguised as a high school. These are the goofs who have coddled these "taxpayers" for years with bullshit promises at bullshit caps beat meetings.
Manpower is not the issue.... It's low morale, lack of competent leadership and crybabies! I'd rather have a Platoon of highly motivated warriors than a Division of cowards!
