Unannounced Changes
Popping up in a few comment sections, some changes that are being made under the radar:
- Tobias takes over Keating's spot at Central Control Group. We thought that spot was reserved for a sergeant, but we guess not;
- Kirby moves into the Brust vacancy at Professional Standards. Does she have to worry about a sergeant hiding 30 or more CR files while being paid for work he wasn't doing anymore?
- Price leaves Intelligence and takes over Legal Affairs;
- Rejoice 017! Mealer is leaving the District to take over Intelligence;
- Lt. Melissa Staples takes over 017

Staples was penciled in for 23 but Bohmer (SIC) decided she was going to pull the plug in a couple months and did not want to take the Intel spot, so Mueller was moved instead?
If true, the wailing and gnashing of teeth in 017 is over...you are very lucky - she's one of the best.
Is there any coincidence that Kirby and Tobias are both leaving their current spots at HQ and moved at the same time after being hidden for spoo long?
Did the federal statute of limitations run out on the SOS case?

True enuff but the same as it ever was, Lt's slugging it out in tuff Districts being sent to be W/C's all over yet you take someone who is Petersons Girl that had a cush spot Asset Forfiture and make her a commander. Granted she did do some time in 11 as a Sgt. and A4 as a Lt. but a District Commander is commanding Patrol. I guess the real workers in the trenches get Passed over again. So to all the Red Headed step child Lt's out there who just took another kick in the teeth, do your 20 and get out while there is still a pension because the chosen ones are going to get that exempt pension not you. 17 is still lucky to get her it's not her fault someone took care of her who would turn down any spot if offered.

BARELY ever worked the streets, always taken care of by clout, starting right out of the academy with the blessing of Miriam Santos. made Lt. a few short years after making Sgt. - things that make you go hhhmmmmm???? that said, shes a very nice person but all you people saying she cut her teeth in Fillmore are sadly mistaken...she really hasnt cut her teeth anywhere but the clout teet.
change is needed in 017 esp. on the 3rd watch where a tiny short egotistical p.o. has all but ruined the watch and the morale..the commander sets the tone for the district and 17 needs a true leader desperately.

017 was once a very fun and close knit district to work in. Bosses were terrified of Mealer because he made Liebert an example by dumping liebert who wouldnt play Mealers bullshit.
Too bad many of the coppers in 017 have lost all respect for the bosses in 017 due to the fact that they were terrified of Mealer and would mess with the troops.
All I can say is thank God. May I never have to look at that RAT FACED Mealer again!

017 is broken. All you have to do is have the bosses treat us nice. No backstabbing. No going out of their way to purposly mess with a copper.
Try having them make roll call fun. Send us out on a positive note. You will get whatever you need/want just by doing those few simple few things.

worked with staples when she 1st got outta academy in 020. nice enough girl but not the real police. not a bad person then i will admit. pleasant personality. i had went to 020 to rest from fillmore for a bit and met her,and she did learn to be police a bit outta necessity when she got sent to 011. she will probably treat troops much better than goof 017 has now.
Tobias is a good man. Staples has potential to be a good boss. I just hope this department can rebound from THE EXPERIMENT.
I don't trust Rahm at all. Masters has impressed his fellow brother and he will be retained to run the department. Rahm will indeed replace Jody but Masters will continue to run the department his way. Vote for Chico if you want real change.

Hopefully if Peterson goes, so will the c/o of Major Accidents. Their morale is lower than death valley. This lieutenant has decimated the unit and had qualified people retire because she has no idea what she is doing. She is a micromanager and bully who thinks she is the only one who is capable of solving crime. She takes all her perks, but gives nothing to the troops. Don't worry about solving the crime, just worry about not giving overtime to solve it.

From a real mans view: I've had the pleasure of knowing and working for Lt. Staples for a little over a year. She has nothing but best interest and concerns for everyone she commands. She is one who takes care of buisness and is one of the hardest working people I know. She is intelligent, and is usually 4 steps ahead of anyone. She is a person who will look you in the eye and tell you like it is. Whoever's girl she is doesn't matter. Trust me SHE EARNED IT. If you do your job, you will have no problems. If she gets 017, I will be saddened to see her go, but 017 is getting one of the best. I hope her replacement is only half the person and boss she is.

I don't know the others, but I'm a no-clout P.O., that has personally worked for Zavala, jackson, and Wysinger. All three of those guys are true CPD. First time I met Zavala he went out of his way to help my team and I. The result was numerous positive search warrants, and a great C.I.
J.J was in 11, and theres not enough room on this blog to talk about the P.O.'s he helped there.True story. Once I was walking with another P.O.. He called out to another P.O., whose name happened to be "Jimmy". At the same time Jackson was walking out of 11. He turned and said, "What's up guys, what can I do for 'ya?". Sound like a jackoff to you?
As for Al Wysinger. The man never helped me directly, but he was always down for workers and trying to get something accomplished. These are ,and were good bosses. Im glad I worked for them. They don't deserve bashing.Some of us piss and moan about good bosses

Huh? Are you suggesting ISP investigate all the fatal accidents on the streets of Chicago? If so think before you type!!
AFU is more complicated than you can imagine. You have to know criminal and civil laws. It does all the cases for the whole department. The department was seizing money but none was forfeited legally until MS came along. We're talking many many millions. So fkng thank her. MS doesn't deserve a district, she deserves a unit. The rest of the vice unit needs her leadership and brains. God knows there arent any on five.
You can try all you want to defend these three time merit lottery winners but it's indefensible. These people are groomed from day one to make it look legit. They are moved from spot to spot to make it appear they are climbing the ranks when in reality they are politically connected individuals being given promotions and all the perks and hefty pensions that go with it. Anyone with any time on the job can see through all the bullshit. It matters not if they are nice, or smart or if they put in long hours, it's an opportunity the average cop will never see. It's a joke and I can never respect any of these so called leaders no matter how much spin you try to put on it.

Since Tobias left the academy, the quality of training has dropped. The current lack of leadership at the academy is so apparent. It is so sad to watch the academy drop their standards due to the lack of leadership. Brust ignored training and now we can only hope Kirby will make changes.
Because of 3 major idiot bosses in 017 I totally stopped working. I was tired of them and their I am God bullshit. I stood my ground for many years only producing for a boss that I liked. And they put the Kabosh on that as well.
I could care less how a boss got their position. Leave me the fuck alone and you will get what you need to go to your bullshit monthly meetings with...plain and simple. If you want what the other guy/gal has than go get it. Dont bash them for doing what they want/had to. If you want something bad enough you will work for it to get noticed or find the right ass to kiss or whatever if thats your gig.
I dont know this Staples women...however if she doesnt put bosses against me like Mealer and Barnas did, I will go the extra mile. Also If she doesnt listen to a certain Hieght Challenged puke...the watch will run better.
I had a perfectly good working relationship with a boss that was totally manipulated and almost ruined By Barnas and Mealer. I guess they couldnt understand why I produced for her and not them. It was easy, I was left alone.

You are an ARSE. I know Staples and I know Schmitz. Both working coppers. I have personally been there when she has placed cuffs on people and recovered more than 4.5 million in USC. She has made more of a dent in crime and has recovered more merchandise, cars, dope and USC than imaginable. Kevin Ryan is "tight" with alot of bosses. He has mastered the art of sucking up. Not knowing who the next supt is goin to be he has sucked up to Masters, goldstein, roman (thanks for taking his bimbo) Ray Ray, Gene Wiliams, Dana Alexander just to name a few. AFU is more complicated than you can imagine. You have to know criminal and civil laws. It does all the cases for the whole department. The department was seizing money but none was forfeited legally until MS came along. We're talking many many millions. So fkng thank her. MS doesn't deserve a district, she deserves a unit. The rest of the vice unit needs her leadership and brains. God knows there arent any on five.
The issue is not whether or not she is a nice person. It is not whether or not she will do a good job. She may very well be a great person with great leadership skills. The issue is that it is still who you know. A person with no clout and the integrity not to sell their soul for a spot will never be a C.O on this job. The qualified no clout person can pass all tests legit,submit their resume, their activity, and a thousand examples of stellar police work and they will never evn be given a chance at an interview. In fact all their efforts will be laughed at and they will spend their career in a shit district with their abilities going to waste holding roll call and clicking a mouse.The poster who stated that the Lt. in " the trenches" don't do much is correct, other than travel the city to a different district every day,but it is not out of laziness it is because they have been shunted aside and considered irrelevant. I don't know Staples and if she is so great maybe she will give the good officers in her new command a legit chance at a meritorious promotion to Sgt. or a recommendation to a unit,or even training opportunities but I sure as hell wouldn't count on it.
Also the fact that Staples is a last minute pick by J-Fled tends to make her qualifications suspect.
Lt staples is extremely intelligent and a real hard worker. She cleaned up asset forfeiture thank goodness. She can't be lied to and is a good judge of character. Great sense of humor too. She earned her wings even though she knows people. She earns her success. Good for 017 and bad for afu.

I seldom visit SCC. I retired in August and tend to stop by occasionally to see about any promotions etc. The reason that I tend not to contribute is because of all the negativity, the anonymous negativity.
I knew Melissa Staples years ago, not well but just acquaintances. I doubt that she would even remember me. I am happy to see that she has found her niche as nobody is truly happy on this job until they do. She has done nothing for or against me over the years so I am not going to make any comments, nor do I have much of a dog in this race. This back biting is horrible for morale and is as much to blame for the fall of our department's morale as anything.
A few people much wiser than I taught me as a child that if you are not willing to sign your name to something, then you shouldn't write it or say it. Think about this the next time you have flames burning your tongue about somebody.

No you dont know about the bucko fed $$$$ seized in joint cases that never made its way to cpd because no past c.o. did their job and stayed on top of where all the $$$ was going. She is one of the few bosses that actually thanks you for doing a good job. She doesn't put up with lazy officers and the bs from some officers who do need to put in their place. Let's take getting personal out of it because it's not personal. It boils down to fairness versus politics. No matter who you are, you should get an even shot at promotional opportunities and you cannot defend the current system which allows the connected to get merit promotion after merit promotion. If these people are so bright and talented then taking and passing with a top score should not be a problem. It is obvious that some people will try to defend it, especially if they are the benefactor of the current system but it don't make it right. 3x Merit=Clout
Period. It should never be allowed to happen. For those who have already gotten it, grow thicker skin, so you can absorb a jab or two, you "earned it".

If you are going to talk sh## about Staples, get your facts right. Staples was never a detective, she made sergeant on her own. She was in the high 280's on the list because she ranked a couple places behind me.
Staples was a merit Lt. She doesn't lie about it and will tell everyone who asks. As far as hugging the Supt. Doubt it. Staples doesn't kiss anyone's ass. She never has and never will.
Even if God himself is in charge of 017th District, these LAZY Do nothing Police Officers would still bitch and moan. You know who you are! Back up your fellow Officers and stop milking your "Dog barking and bullshit noise disturbace" calls.
And for the Supervisors, please do something about our zone bitch Dispatcher MJ. She would fucking give an attitude just because we asked for a call back (NOT Anonymous) on a Priority One call?
