And Speaking of Guns.....

This is great:
  • Security is newly tightened at the Texas Capitol, but plenty of gun-toting visitors can breeze right through.

Concealed handgun license holders walk through a special lane marked "CHL Access" around, and not through, the metal detectors put in place last year after a man fired shots outside the statehouse.

Schoolchildren and tourists, meanwhile, have to walk through metal detectors and put their bags and keys through scanners. One of the busiest times is now, when the legislature, which meets biennially, is convened.

Golly. Armed people, walking the halls of power in Texas, rubbing elbows with their elected representatives, amid school children touring government offices. No "wild west" scenarios. No bloody shoot-outs in the streets.

It sounds exactly like being a citizen of a free country and not the subject of a despotic dictator.

Keep the doctor with his black bag nearby. Mayor Daley will surely need an injection when he hears this.

Ah, backward, benighted Deepest Illinois; about the last state in the Union still in thrall to darkness and superstition. I'm surprised there's indoor plumbing...

Common SCC, it's the same way here, except the only people that use the CHL at City Hall are Daley's and Burke's security details.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I know about your interest (obsession) with concealed carry. But the eye-opener in this article is that the state legislature meets twice a year.
Sounds like that might be the big difference between Texas and Illinois.

A well armed and law abiding society is a polite society.

I enjoy reading this blog here in Austin.

I feel for y'all. I do.

Here is what Texas law allows CCL holders to do to defend themselves legally with lethal force for those with interest.

Swiss Vote To Keep Army Guns At Home

by Hui Min – Sun Feb 13, 11:46 am ET

"GENEVA (AFP) – Switzerland, which has the highest rate of suicide by firearms in Europe, voted Sunday to hold fast to its long-standing tradition of letting citizens keep army-issue weapons at home.

"A referendum, launched by a coalition of non-governmental groups, religious authorities and centre-left parties, pushed to have the weapons stored in armouries instead.

"The initiative also aimed to abolish the practice of allowing those on military service to keep their government-issue assault rifles even after they leave the army.

"But the coalition failed to secure the votes of both a majority of the population and cantons.

"The practice of keeping arms at home was once a core part of the country's defence strategy, which was in part aimed at deterring an invasion with the threat that its citizens are combat-ready at any sign of trouble...

"The Swiss ease with weapons is seen on the street and in railway stations, as young conscripts travel to and from military service nonchalantly carrying their semi-automatic rifle, with barely a glance from passers-by...

"Switzerland's biggest political party -- the far-right Swiss People's Party, said the rejection of the initiative is "the Swiss people's affirmation of their proud shooting tradition."

military

Interestingly, Amnesty International has now taken it unto itself to become a global anti-gun group. "Amnesty International also issued a statement saying that it is 'regrettable that the majority of the Swiss population did not find that the place of a weapon is not at home.'"

These NGOs, non-governmental organizations -- leftist pressure groups -- are really poison. A lot of them issue great thick papers about "the global need to eliminate small arms." It's the sort of thing George Soros and Bill Gates and Warren Buffett like to fund...

God Bless Texas. Lets see in Illinois especially Chicago we the law abiding citizens are forced by the corrupt Mayor to fight the 2nd Amendment with our own tax dollars. The same corrupt Mayor who makes our retired P.O.'s pay the Ill State Police to qualify once a year because he doesn't want CPD to do it. Not to mention the same corrupt Mayor refuses to follow Federal law and let Disabled P.O.'s carry. Yeah GOD BLESS TEXAS AND GOD DAMN DALEY AND QUINN!!!!!!

Not two meetings a year, one meeting or "session" every two years. That session lasts a max of 140 calendar days. Those legislators get paid $600 per month, or $7,200 per year, plus a per diem of $128 for every day the Legislature is in session. That adds up to $17,920 a year for a regular session (140 days).

The governor can call special sessions any time he wants.

Can you imagine Madigan or Cullerton getting out of bed for $17,920 a year?

A person is expected to have a job there to make ends meet. Like Madigan and his law firm. Madigan was founder and continues as senior partner of the law firm Madigan & Getzendanner which has been accused of profiting millions off of Madigan's position and power.

You know, making ends meet.

Hey genius, the south always has a higher crime rate than the north. They have better weather year round so people are out and about more months per year.

The FBI doesn't use CPD's numbers for their tabulations and Texas STILL has a lower crime rate than Illinois. A couple of more things that Texas has that we don't have and STILL has a lower crime rate. They are on the Mexico border and the crime on the Mexico side is worse than here. They have more illegals passing through there on their way to wherever they are heading. I know, I'm a bigot, but these illegals are less law-abiding than the average Texan, they are predominantly young men, who are more likely to commit crimes because that's what young men of any race do. Texas also has more major cities than Illinois. Here we got Chicago, they have, Houston, 2 million, El Paso, .5 million, Dallas, 1.2 million, San Antonio, 1 million, Austin, .65 million.

I wish you democrats would either stay off this blog or do a little critical thinking. THINK about what you're reading and make a decision as to what it really means. Besides, if you were on the job you'd know that when a group of gang-bangers try to stomp a rival a new mud hole, the crime is simple battery. Not attempted murder or aggravated battery. That's one of the ways our crime rate in Chicago stays so marvelously low.

The meters were thrust upon those that had significant home improvements and measured in gallons instead of cubic feet, thus the incorrect reading and huge over billing.

Some lawyer can do the right thing and fix that for the elderly. The only one who probably didn't figure it out and are still paying?

Oh yeah...lawyer doing the right thing? A fantasy.

"No 'Wild West' scenarios..." --SCC

There were not even that many "Wild West" scenarios in the "Wild West." We have been at the receiving end of Hollywood's product all of our lives; many "truths" in our daily life are not truths at all, but merely television-based projections.

It's all of this "civilization" that's given us cities with huge, dangerous no-go zones, mass shootings, etc.

By the way, Obamarail, the "high speed rail that we really need" in the President's new budget -- which axes programs like home heating assistance to instead blow the money on this -- is part of a leftist-green-totalitarian agenda to get rid of people's cars and pack them very densely into even more overcrowded, crime-prone cities as the immigration flood continues.

The high speed rail advocates argue that "it'll be just like America in the 1920s, when everyone lived in big cities." This is utter nonsense -- in those days, something like 50% of the population worked in agriculture and lived in rural areas.

Today, it's more like 2% -- and the left is working hard to get the remaining small farmers to donate the family farm to a "land bank," which would keep it fallow and unpopulated as a "wildlife preserve." Self-sufficiency is anathema to these people.

All parts of a very ugly big picture involving "social engineering" for control and profit...Oprah and Obama and Daley and Emanuel, Soros and Gates and Buffett...and now Trump...

Well unfortunatley Texas has a huge criminal illegal alien problem. If the borders were secure their crime rate would be very small. Did the fbi leave that fact out?
