Snow Bonus?

  • Dateline — The Money Line: The county may be in dire financial straits, but Sneed hears union employees of the Cook County Health and Hospital System are being awarded $250 bonuses for showing up to work during last week’s blizzard.
No wonder Preckwinkle needs those budget cuts if she's still paying these "bonuses."

Check your OT on business crystal. Everyone who worked 3rd watch on the 4th and 1st watch on the 5th got overtime. Probably a mistake though so don't be surprised if it disappears.

Wow they are getting a bonus for showing up to work during that blizzard and what did those of us in 009 get? We got threatened to have our cars ticketed and towed from the parking garage if we didn't move them to the upper level that wasn't plowed or salted. And before some smart ass says,"awww poor babies, at least you have a parking garage" it's the same upper level that the general services plow truck couldn't even make it up the ramp but the loving d/c didn't really care to hear any of that. A 4x4 plow truck with salt spreader can't get up there but you're going to ticket and tow my car if I can't? A big fuck you to commander jarmush-head, you're welcome for dredging to work in horrible conditions, walking through mounds of snow for 2-3 blocks just to get to a job and for staying late waiting for the next watch to get there.

Hey no one paid me extra money!

I took the bus to work on the day of the blizzard and still made it to work on time, at 0530 hours no less, all though I had to leave my house an hour earlier than normal!

What the fuck! Pay me extra, too!!!

It's a contract thing and it actually saved money. The weather was so bad that most people would be calling off. It's cheaper to pay the bonus and entice someone "fresh" to come to work than pay someone else double or triple time after they are wasted from already being at work for three tours of duty. Nothing to see here, move along. Much to do about nothing.

I showed up and less than 1/3 of my unit did. I worked extra hours to cover another watch (cha-ching!) two days in a row while while excuses like my alley isnt plowed yet, and my car is stuck were accepted. As far as I know transportation problems were never accepted before. I went out in a company car to pick up several people to keep the unit going. I even heard from other unit coppers that babysitting problems kept them from reporting from work. Then they had the audacity to come back to work and talk about how much fun thay had in the snow with their kids.

C.P.D. you get a D minus.

Just sayin....

As a long time employee of Juvenile court , I am seeing all the panic and worry over layoffs . Then this morning I see that Preckwinkle wants to promote one of her campaign contibutors from executive assistant to the superintendant to deputy superintendant with a raise from $111,000 to $154,000. The director of all court services at juvenile court makes significantly less then that and is responcible for everything at juvenile court from probation, support staff etc, probably supervising well over 500 people ( and , I'm not really a big fan of his, but will say he has been fighting for us in budget negotiations). They are talking about layoffs in our dept of up to 20% meaning a significantly increased work load for field po's . With the increased taxes , I am now taking home $143 less a month and will probably soon be faced with a 20 % work load increase , but someone who works for the forest preserves gets a $43,000 raise and will make more then my top boss, just more of the same bullshit.

I don't have a problem with this. They will need to pay for cab rides and someone to shovel why they go to the hospital on the day of the storm. And they would have to stay all day when they are salary.

Heard that this also applied to the SAO. Bond court and FRU were told to come in to work, while everyone else was told to stay home because courts were closed. Retroactively FRU and bond court ASAs were given the $250.
