The Push for 50% + 1

  • Gery Chico is pushing a class warfare message, and Carol Moseley Braun is trying to win back African-American voters as they try to finish second and force a runoff in the Chicago mayor's campaign.

While the two candidates are launching new stretch-run strategies, Rahm Emanuel is following the same path that has kept him the front-runner throughout. He mostly is ignoring the barbs from opponents and airing a non-stop ad blitz of his near-endorsement by hometown President Barack Obama.

Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff, was at 49 percent in last week's Tribune/WGN poll, on the cusp of the majority he needs to clinch victory Feb. 22. Chico, the former Chicago Board of Education president, was at 19 percent, and former U.S. Sen. Braun had fallen to 10 percent.
The problem seems to be the people abandoning Moseley Braun aren't breaking for Chico as much as he needs them to. It's almost 50/50 and Chico needs them to come to his side something like 75% or more to keep Rahm from the magic "50% plus 1" number.

Del Valle continues to play spoiler for Chico. It'll be interesting to see if he lands a big spot in the new administration.

As usual, turnout will be the key. Encourage your friends and neighbors to get out and vote.

chico wont win, rahm will get over 50 percent and we will suffer. Trust me, rahm will get the last laugh when it comes to the FOP not supporting him and being so outspoken in support for chico. Rahm is a man who is ruthless and loves to prove a point. When he gets into office he will make sure the cpd gets his point and he will make sure that a police union or any other union does not back him again... you think its bad now with daley???? ha, rahm is going to tear us up just out of spite for not giving him the support. Trust me when I say this, I know several people on the northside that are his personal friends and have worked with him

If Rahm wins outright, he'll have time to campaign for machine sponsored aldermanic candidates. This would be the worst scenario possible.

Nearly everyone that I've spoken to on the NW side indicates that they are voting for Chico.

It's probably best the Braun stays in, if the midget gets everyone to quit, it will be him against Chico and he might win outright. With a run-off, Chico might get the media to quit carrying Emanuels water and actually out this crumb for the rotten bastard he is.

I was listening to "the Loop" all during my tour yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. I was hearing Gery Chico commercials all afternoon that were sponsored by, and paid for by FOP Lodge 7.

Good ad placement and marketing on a station where they may do some good, considering that demographic is in the Rahm camp for some inane reason.

It is about time the FOP put their money where their mouth is.

The only hope we have is if we can force a run off. We all know how powerful the internet can be, an example would be viral videos. We need to capitalize on this very simple tool to get the word out to friends and family. I have already asked people I know to vote for anybody but Rahm and have swayed a few of them who initially supported him. I explained to them that politicians are not only targeting unions and pensions, they are also targeting their Social Security as well. Politicians have squandered away money they were intrusted with, not to mention that the 18 million dollar man Rahm Emanuel wants to cut the very modest pensions of police, fire, teachers, CTA workers, etc. Criminal politicians want to punish us for their thievery and mismanagement.

I would ask that all of you take a moment to send a message to all of your contacts in your address book that vote in the city. Urge them to vote for anyone but Rahm. If we could get all city workers to take this very simple step we could turn the tide just enough to force a run off. We can either sit back and bitch about the state of things or we can take action to fight it. Please pass it on, if Rahm emanuel can be defeated, it will send a message loud and clear to downstate politicians and Washingtion as well.

Rahm was just on television saying that the new Superintendent "will have the respect of the officers".

He purposely avoided the question "will the new Superintendent come from within the department?"

My guess is he already has an idea who will be the next Superintendent.

Will it be a former CPD or an outsider? Either way J-Cock is gone...

Rham has said more than once that he plans on targeting current employees pensions, That could be attacking the smaller unions that only have 400 members or the 1300 member unions into concessions

You think these smaller unions will have the $$ behind them to sustain a long dragged out lawsuit....

The above statement is why this city, county, and state are a mess. Good thinking asshole. I'm sure the men and women that have fought and died for our rights including the right to vote appreciate it. Moron. Remember rahm and his ilk count on that type of thinking, that's one of the ways they stay in power and get rich at our expense. Never give in to this attitude. By the way to any veteran reading this blog thank you for your service and remember that the majority of us do appreciate what you have done.

If every city worker comes together and votes along with their family and friends, we can keep Rahmbo out. But it will take every vote we have. There are enough people out ther to keep it close for Rahm, but we can make t5he difference to keep him out. Cops, fireman and city workers are doing more in this election to keep Rahm out than any previous election. But we all have to get out and vote. Not doing so is a vote for Rahmbo. Look at what happened with Quinn. If more people didn't have the asinine attitude Quinn was going to win anyway, Quinn would have been out. Just the pension issue should be pushing every city employee to go out and vote against Rahm. We have come together in numbers in the past few years, this is the time to take 10-15 minutes of your busy schedule and vote. Unless you don't care if when you retire the only thing you can afford to eat will be dog food. Whether you have 5 years or 25 years th8is effects all our futures. Don't depend on the next person, get out and make your voice heard. Polls don't mean shit, votes do. Rahm has pissed off alot of people. They will vote against him. We have to do the same thing and keep this asshole out.

I live on the southwest side and I have yet to find one person voting for rahm. The media is trying to discourage people from voting so rahm can win. If people get discouraged, thinking their vote won't count, they will not go out to vote. Rahm is counting on this. You have no right to bitch about anything if you don't go and vote. If you can't vote on the 22nd, you can vote early through the 17th at most libraries between 9a-5p. Get out there and make your vote count! There is no excuse for not voting.
