Updates Delayed
Yes, even SCC is going to be running behind today. We'll update as able, but based on what we've seen so far, everything is going to be done in very narrow windows of opportunity. Be careful out there boys and girls. Your backup might be mere blocks away, but getting there could take minutes and more.

GOTTA RUN!!! (the other way)
Any snow tows written last night?
At this morning's briefing from the 911 Center, the mayor's chief of staff and former fire commissioner, Ray Orozco said he had never seen anything like this storm in his 31 years of service with the city.
Hmmm? That means he started in 1980?
Was Ray Orozco hired as a scab during the fire strike?
Former FBI Agent Advising Miami Police
Looks like Miami is going the way of CPD. Look for morale to plummet on that Department.
So let me get this straight-the parking lot at 013 looks like shit with both squads and personal cars being parked two blocks away in a completely snow free lot at that bastion of academic achievement, Wells High School. Fully plowed despite the fact that this school, like others, is closed!
I haven't heard of any "snow emergency" in ethnically diverse communities of Park Ridge, Glenview, Morton Grove, etc. A big shout out is in order to the Niles PD midnight watch commander who allowed parking for policemen unable to park their cars anywhere near thier home, and even offered rides to the officers to get home. Thanks boss!
At the city press conference, Weis is defending the purchase of 2 wheel drive SUVs, saying they "handle better" during everyday operations!!!!
He also said 'we replaced every beat car with a new car this year'.
WHAT IS THIS MAN SMOKING, AND CAN I GET SOME OF IT?
How bout an open post?
HORRIBLE Job of snow removal by the City, suburbs are in far better shape. It will be weeks before side streets get plowed correctly. Countless accidents and some deaths. Incompetence reigns Supreme in Crookago.
hurry up and wait.
All the neighbors got together and cleaned the sidewalks, streets and alley's. Just like they do on the west side.
Even Chalkie took a snow day
Looks like little Tommy Byrne screwed up again. Who will he blame this time.
A very huge thank you and special gratitude to each and every one of you
Just watching the oemc news conference. What a bunch of illiterate morons.
Well, it appears Orozco made huge blunder in keeping LSD open past 1600 hrs. From what I've seen on the news feeds of all the cars and CTA buses trapped in the mountainous drifts along the route, I don't see the Drive re-opening before Thursday afternoon at the very earliest. God, I can't even imagine those folks trapped on the Drive peeing on themselves in their personal vehicles. And what about those whose cars ran out of gas? What a mess.
Here's a word of thanks to you all. Pass it on.
Retired commander Bill Callahan (Area Three Dicts & Intelligence) passed away on February 1st.
How fast can j-fled run in 24" of snow?
Check out Streets & San boss Tom Byrne during these press conferences. He's trying to impress Rahm..he wants those 4 stars.
Pimp.
My dad was CFD; he told me Orozco was indeed a scab. He said Orozco was a very good fireman but a complete prick. Just a jag-off to everyone. Also, only scabs made Captain or exempt when he was Fire Boss.
What kind of answer did Fled give when the media asked him why CPD didn't equip its officers with 4-wheel drive SUVs? "it wasn't cost these are the best vehicles in Michigan!" Are you shitting me? There is no way that a department in the mid-west known for historical winters does not purchase 4-wheel drive equipped vehicles for its 1st responders. What's in that big head of his?
I live in Budlong woods. NOT 1 PLOW TRUCK ALL DAY? Come one guys, I gotta be at work at 5am...
1631 was writing cars parked on Cumberland this afternoon....OBVIOUSLY the cars were moved inorder to plow the fucking streets you stupid nit wit!!!!!!!!!! WTF!
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/02/01/scary-encounter-chicagos-mayor-richard-daley/
Very interesting article by John Lott describing how he was basically fired from U of C for daring to question shortshanks...
I live in 022. My alley has 4 feet of snow and everyone is TRAPPED. I've been callin 311 since 8am and it just rings. I guess I'll start digging the 120 Feet from my garage to the street but my question is: WHY ARE MY TAXES SO HIGH IF I CAN'T GET ANY CITY SERVICE? All the Dump trucks have plow attachments but I haven't seen 1 let alone a regular plow. Not once frickin plow all day.
Vote for that asshole O'shea and you deserve this same ol' same shhit.
67 was worse, but then the city didn't have all the snow removal equipment it has now.

Yes.
"Orozco is an assistant deputy commissioner who joined his father's department in 1980 by crossing the picket line during the bitter firefighters strike."

having lived in this city for 45 years i was astonished when i woke up this morning--- me and my son went out the night before and shoveled several times before turning in around nine--- about 0230 the windows were rattling from the high winds and the thundersnow woke my wife up--- I was in awe when I woke up this morning, back door and patio door buried under 3 feet plus of snow and the front of the house wasted--- 76 was real bad but this is definitely a close second....

Naw. Too busy standing at attention next to the car with the blue lights on.

Yes He was. And has been a credit to the CFD ever since. So?
Everyone makes a mistake at some time.
The REAL scabs are those that stayed in knowing what situations we worked at.
THEY ARE THE REAL SCAB'OS .
After the 1967 snowstorm what was next for the city?
The 1968 West Side Riots.
CFD getting shot at while Madison street burned down.
Check out the National Guard outside Cabrini in the clip.
The Guard guy taking cover by the car with the Chicago copper behind him. He turns around and looks at the copper like seriously man? Snipers?
Is it just me or does byrne look/sound like a 3rd grader reading a "SEE SPOT RUN" BOOK????
FYI: With the exception of Bond Court for all felonies/misd. ALL Courts are closed 3FEB11. Do not appear. Notice/Fax came out today.
Who is the goof in charge of the police facilities, hey commander JB, when u found out the storm was coming- why the fuck wouldn't you make sure squad cars-- U KNOW EMERGENCY VEHICLES were cleared out... These cars aren't cta or human services- they're police emergency vehicles....
Take a ride by 102nd pl betwn harding n springfield n watch the front end loader clear the snow away from Orozco house. Haven't seen street that clear since JK funeral @ st. Christina

Beat 1312’s 2500 Thomas Street had 5 dads with shovels and ONE snowblower get 1/2 the neighbors out from under the snow. Sidewalks CLEAN. STREET CLEAN to the 1/2 block point before turning their attention to the alley.
Those guys keep that block in good order.
The Carter Administration handed over Iran to the "democratic government" movement in Iran after many protests toppled the Shahs government. This allowed the maniacs to get their hands on an entire country to cause trouble in the world.
Now we have the Obama government that is orchestrating the exact same bone headed thing to happen to Egypt. Why is it that liberals would rather commit suicide than do something controversial like support an ally?
Is it worse to support an imperfect, unpleasant ally or is it worse to sit and squirm as a murderous enemy plans to cut your damn head off? I'll be surprised if the world is not infinitely worse after 4 years of this Obama nit-wit than it was after 4 years of that stupid bastard Carter. Hows that hope and change working for you?
BLINKY BEA CUELLO
VERY SMART HIDING ALL THE WAY AT THE END OF THE NEWS CONFERENCE.
(LET ME GUESS UR PUTTING IN UR CALL TO B THE NEXT SUPE)
GUESS J-FLED AND SHORT SHANKS KNOWS ALOT OF VOTERS R PISSED OFF.
THEY BOTH WERE MIA FROM THE MEDIA CIRCUS.
AT LEAST THE DOPE SPOTS WERE CLOSED!
It's amazing..... the city has a fleet of 1800 plows to clear streets But they couldn't allocate 10 plows to clear the police and fire lots for emergency vehicles and personal vehicles of first responders. Oh yeah they had to get the schools clear for the little darlings who are off today. Thank you to the private plows who helps clear the 12th district lot. The general services are useless.

As opposed to my ass of a neighbor, who decided it was time to shovel around his sports car around three this afternoon.
There were ruts in the street, where a few 4wheel drives had gone through, but the ASS shoveled all his snow into the street, effectively blocking it now for the next few days.
One can only hope, whenever the plow does come through, that they BURY this sob's car in a major way.
I know just how the guy feels out there in 022nd....cannot get out of his alley. The same thing up north/017th and 016th district. Our block cleared the street from curb to curb with the help of a neighbor, but we are all stuck in the alley. Maybe if Orozco and Byrne had closed LSD like they should have there would be more trucks available for the rest of the city. But lets keep paying the highest property taxes....for the B>S service we get. I am sure Byrne's block and all the Aldermen/women have their streets cleared....just look around.

If you did what you just said, you WOULD NOT see Orozco's house.
I know, I live next to him.
Asshat!
Do you think Richie's bodyguards shovel his sidewalks?

No, I think the condo association does. As a matter of fact, I know they do.
Bill Callahan died?
it's in weather like this that I really miss the Ford Fairmont experiment!
We need 4 wheel drive about one or two times each year. This time, major arterial streets are open already. side streets are still a mess.
I wouldn't buy all 4WD Tahoes either. A few, definitely, a couple per district, nut surely not the whole fleet. No need.

Yes, Jody. We already know your opinion on this subject. Get off the blog.
All Monday morning quarterbacking aside as far as how the city handled things, it was nice to see neighbors coming together and helping one another out. That is what truly makes our city a great one to still live in.

Yeah like that's the only block that was done because someone new someone. My street was done by a plow because the guy across the street works for streets and san. I am not saying its right, but it isnt all about Orozco.
When Eygpt come to Chicago
Ray Orozco said he had never seen anything like this storm in his 31 years of service with the city.
IMAGINE IF THIS WERE TERROEISM?????? LOL SAVE YOUR FAMILY
I blame this snow on "El Nino"
a snowstorm (event) like this, brings out 1) the best in people, and neighbors; 2) exposes the capabilities, and inadequacies and failures, of city department heads; 3)shows the resilience of individual departments, and their members (CPD, CFD, Streets/San; departments that perform in spite of, not because of, their leadership)...take it for what its worth...
I thought the snow removal was pretty at least better then New York City where all the people stood in the street and acted like pussies. My street got plowed and I live on a side street. No alderman no bosses on my street.

Bullshit. many neighbors in several areas never helped out in snow removal. I watched as home owners shoveled their house and never help out other families. Homeowners with huge snow blowers stop at their property line and never help out other neighbors. I drove down several streets and saw no one helping out others. Be grateful you live in a area that neighbors still help out others.

Fuck OFF, Rahm! We ain't votin' for you!

.............
New York sucks for snow problems.
There are no PARKWAYS to dump the snow so there is no place to put it.
New York City was designed in the early 1800s and they fucked up by making it one big concrete jungle.

STOP!!
The call was ALL Lil' Tommy Byrnes'
Orosco was the patsy.
Even the police requested they close the Drive as early as 1600 hrs.
Lil' Tommy egotistically said "No" He was in charge.
P.S. Regis and Kathy on Thursday opened their show showing an aerial view of miles of LSD snowed in with thousands of snow covered cars stranded.
Orosco after jumping on the sword for Lil' Tommy quickly got up and said, "Thank You, may I have another!?"

CPD,CFD 68 Riots, Oak Lawn Tornado... Thanks.
013 parking lot looks like a disaster on a normal day, I don't know how you guys navigate your way in and out of that lot. And the the station makes the old 023 look like a palace.
4) a storm like this brings out the worst in people as well
"67 was worse, but then the city didn't have all the snow removal equipment it has now."
Nor did it have as many cars and buses to clog streets.
Thank you CPD for being the job out there while the media panicked.
To the goof asking where the plows were to clear his alley for him. How long have you lived in Chicago, a week? I have lived here my whole life, over 40 years, and have never seen plows do an alley on the firdt or second day of a big snow. Shame on you for being stupid enough to park in a garage. They told you it was gonna be a big storm.

When the common bond is thievery and crime, they are a powerful force. And there has been no influx of industry or actual work producing businesses there since. Chicken shacks, fried fish stores and nail emporiums don't count.

but they take the link card.
Re: Shoveling Alleys
Via Alderman Laurino's 39th Ward E-newsletter:
We have gotten many calls about snow removal in the alleys. As a policy, the city does not plow alleys. Plowing alleys causes snow to be pressed against driveways and garages, making it even more difficult for residents to get out. However, Streets and Sanitation will do their best to run trucks down alleys to establish ruts, in an effort to create a path out of the alleys.
And there has been no influx of industry or actual work producing businesses there since. Chicken shacks, fried fish stores and nail emporiums don't count.
Store front churches, "many" liquor stores/lounges/bars and scuzzy "grocery" stores don't count either.
