Erkel Applies for Unemployment
Like thousands of Illinoisans who have lost their jobs, former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has applied for unemployment benefits.
But newly minted Board President Toni Preckwinkle’s administration officially “protested” the claim with the state’s unemployment agency.
“. . . Former Board President Todd Stroger did submit an application for unemployment,” said a source in the Preckwinkle administration who is familiar with the application. “That application was protested because, as a former elected official, he is ineligible.”
It's not as if he has any marketable skills. Without sponging off the taxpayer again, the Toddler might end up living in a van, down by the river, begging for change at expressway ramps and scrapping cans out of the trash.

People are looking at the BLS unemployment numbers looking for signs of an economic turn-around and cheering...what was it again? About 200,000 so-called new jobs.
I ask what kind of jobs were they?
Min-wage non-wealth creating part-time temporary positions that you find at Wal-Mart or created by the "Put Illinois to Work" program?
Yeah, yippee, 200K jobs created and we are still shoving almost a half million people a month into poverty!
486,503 people were added in the latest report that covers Dec 2010 to be exact.
We're at over 44,082,324 people now.
One in seven people on government provided food subsidies and one in five reporting food insecurity -- difficulty putting food on the table.
THAT'S 20 percent of the population in this so-called great country!
For the last year we're added 5.1 million people to food stamp program and before anyone gets on a political rant about who's fault it is you should know that the numbers have been rising since 2000 when it was about 16.7 million people. Plenty of blame to go around -- plenty.
We are just a few short months away from tripling the number of people on food stamps since 2000!
So yeah, why not let him sign up for unemployment and food stamps too. ya know?
So do you really think we're going to generate tax revenue to fund public pension, let alone pay for city services in the direction that we're headed?

You must be a member of Pastor Wright or Fr. Pflagers church. The unemployment rate was under 5% in April, 2008.
Nearly 50% of the people living in the US pay no federal taxes, yet they receive thousands of dollars in refunds.
Look democrat, incomes are fluid, just because a person is at the lowest income bracket doesn't mean they stay there, they move up and down and that is a documented fact that comes from Professor of Economics, Phd. Walter Williams.
We spend lots of money on education and we have millions of people here that shouldn't be in school because they don't want to learn and are disturbing others that want to.

They have undocumented incomes that are derived from drugs, sex, personal services, ie, fixing hair for friends, baby sitting, shop lifting and other legal and illegal activities. Don't tell me they're all broke because a rather large number make more than we do. Poverty is a relative thing. I grew up in a lower middle class household and occasionally, my mother turned off the phone because we couldn't afford it. We rarely had a car. But we had enough money to not be poor. Many of these poor people are not poor by any real standard, just by our standard and our standard doesn't take into account ALL of their income.
The number one predictor of poverty is a household headed by a single adult. A married couple (or 2 adults living together)have a better chance of not being poor. You have two adults, both working for the same goals, both sharing the workload. They may not be living high off the hog, but they are rarely living in poverty and if they are, they usually don't stay there.
Another poverty problem is the government subsidizes poor people's children. You get a raise if you have additional mouths to feed. Why don't you go to Terry, if you're a cop, and tell him that you just had a new addition to your family, you need a raise. See how fast he has you escorted from his presence. You are expected to be an adult and manage your money like you have some sense.
Now if you're on public aid, you go to the case worker and like magic, more money on the link, maybe a bigger apartment and a larger assistance check, not to mention more on your unearned federal income tax refund check. If a working family has a child, the breadwinner has to find more money for the family. I'm tired of Uncle Stupid being the breadwinner for people who spend all their time screwing, eating unhealthy food, drinkin 40's, smokin' bud, watching Jerry Springer and in general, just chillin'. They're living it up on our dime.
I have more respect for the homeless than Stroger;

Since he decided not to run for office, he basically quit his job, therefore he shouldn't get benefits, or at least that's how I thought it went. If he ran and lost, then that would be considered fired-then he should be able to collect. If he didn't have money to run a campaign, he could have still been on the ballot, but just didn't actively campaign. I'm not trying to screw him or his familly but what's good for me, is good for him. If I decided to not be the police anymore, I couldn't collect.

First, the party rallies around Todd Stroger, convincing him to run for CC Board Prez in an effort to hold onto the myriad of Patronage jobs that exist within the County Board. Once Todd gains the presidency, it's business as usual, with the board pretty much run by...who else? Daley's brother. But due to unpopular tax hikes, the Board allowed Todd to bear the brunt of voter ire, which he has now paid the price for. So now, they have a new President, who has scheduled to repeal Todd's taxes 'by 2013.' Let's certainly hope so. And as is usual in cases like this, the outgoing Dem will usually receive a job already set aside for him by the Democratic party, a sort of "thank you,' for allowing business as usual among the Dems. Not this time; Todd is out on his own, no job offers or prospects, thank you very much. While I'm sure Todd is ineligible for jobless benefits, it just shows how the party has abandoned him completely. How fast they rise and fall here in Cook County.

Just how much did the taxes on cigarettes go up? Just how much is the liquor tax in Cook County? How much is the sales tax? Oh, it's the highest in the nation. Just how much is gas now and how much of it is county tax? Have you written a mover lately? I believe the counties portion of the fine is somewhere around $140 or $160 for each conviction.

Yeah -- like close the borders and cut off ALL aid for illegal aliens. No school. No doctor. No car loans on the exhibit of a mere cedula issued by an invading power. No SSN-free bank accounts or income-free mortgages ditto. No state drivers licenses. NO FOOD STAMPS. No free cell phones. No free legal clinics. No library cards. 1. day care centers, for those recipients who have kids under school age, whose primary claim to not being able to work is that they have to care for their multiple broods of toddlers.
2. food and housewares distribution centers, where basic staples would be distributed, instead of being bought at retail with the link card cash handout.
3. cafeteria style feeding centers, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as is common on military bases, instead of being bought at retail restaurants with the link card cash handouts.
4. clothing distribution centers, with limited types of apparel, also like on military bases, instead of being bought at retail with the link card cash handouts.
5. managing and administrating the above food, housewares, cafeteria and clothing distribution centers.
6. eventually, manufacturing centers, making the clothing, housewares and food products distributed by the above distribution centers.
7. training centers, for those who'll be receiving 'public aid', who will be building the above distribution centers, or remodeling existing structures for the same end purposes.
8. training centers for all the various duties needed to operate the above manufacturing and distribution centers.
9. seasonal gardening centers, to provide fresh produce for the cafeteria style feeding centers.
10. in the event that some currently receiving 'public aid' choose to not participate in working, and thus earning, their monthly 'public aid' stipend, said individuals would no longer receive said 'public aid'.
11. school aged children receiving 'public aid' will be required, as a condition of continuing to receive said 'aid', to maintain a 'B' average and a 95% attendance record. also, a '3 strikes' rule would apply concerning a student's possible contact with law enforcement, ie., you get arrested 3 times and no more 'public aid' for you.
12. a set maximum limit on earned income from private sector employment to continue to receive the maximum amount of 'public aid', while still fulfilling all weekly hours of 'public aid' required work, with a sliding scale after exceeding that limit reducing 'public aid', and a cut off amount eliminating said 'public aid' benefits.
no honest citizen seeking 'aid' from the working 'public' would object to joining the ranks of citizens who work, and thus earn, their daily bread, shelter, clothing, etc.
