Hitting the Ground Running

  • Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel said Thursday that he hopes to have his City Hall team, including a new police superintendent and Chicago Public Schools chief, lined up when he's sworn in May 16.

To speed up a process that can take months, Emanuel's transition team plans to submit its own recommendation for superintendent for the Chicago Police Board to vet.

"We'll be reviewing names, we're going to work through that process," Emanuel said. "My goal, because of the importance of the superintendent, is to have a name for" the board to look at.

A politically expedient approach that looks better than what Daley did (disregarding the Police Board recommendations entirely and appointing his own choice). It let's Rahm have a say-so in who he wants to run the place while appearing to give the Police Board a voice in what will essentially be the mayor's choice. The quote implies Rahm has a single choice - "a name" - and that name will have the full support of a guy who is used to having people fall into line with what he wants.

Iron rule. Let's hope it's the right name.

Why not Chief of Detectives Byrne? He would be an excellent choice.

Daley calls America a nation of whiners and thinks teachers should work longer.

Will this complete piece of shit just die already?

I don't think Ramsey would want to come back. I think Philly will be his last stand. He's getting up in age, and that will affect his marketability. Even Bratton is in his 70s now. Top Dog is a job that wears on you...have you all forgotten how old and beaten down Hillard looked when he left the job in '03? 5 years at the helm of most metropolitan PDs is a long time that takes a lot out of a man or woman.

You seem to have missed the fact that da old mayor is invisible these days. He's history and Rahm isn't taking orders or suggestions from him.

Daley was TOAST the day Rahm announced on Charlie Rose that he wanted Richie's job.

Where does this image of Rahm as a tough guy come from? Rahm is a punk rich kid from the suburbs, with a B.A. in Communications that somehow was all he needed to make millions after leaving the White House. Do yah think maybe he had some inside help? And he's pulled shit on Washington insiders, who for the most part are hicks. Anybody who thinks this guy is some sort of reformer or saviour; probably voted for Obama.

It'll be some LEFT LEANING person, from the outside perhaps. Both the Fibune and Scum-times did articles on the mysterious Rahm backer organization "For a Better Chicago" run by Greg Goldner of "Resolute Consulting: Goldner has a LONG HISTORY of ensuring LEFTIST Chicago/IL candidates get elected. Research links to follow....

I'm pretty sure that the submission of 3 names by the POlice Board to the Mayor, who then chooses one, or rejects al3 for new names, is a requirement of the law.
