Hey Look! Guns!

  • Illinois State Police stood their ground today after the state's attorney general determined the agency must disclose the names of people authorized to own guns in Illinois to comply with public records law.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's public access counselor issued a letter Monday night rejecting state police arguments that releasing the information is an unwarranted invasion of privacy prohibited by the state public records law or that its disclosure would automatically endanger the lives of gun owners or those who don't have firearms.

State police determine who gets Firearm Owners Identification cards but have always kept the information confidential.
As most of our readers are aware, being employed by a law enforcement agency requires you to have a valid FOID card. Releasing this list would be like a giant arrow on a map pointing criminals directly to your house.

And for all the anti-gun people who aren't protected by a 24-hour police guard, the lack of a giant arrow on that same map provides a road map in reverse, giving ne'er-do-wells a good clue as to who would be easier pickings.

The comments over at Chicago Breaking News have been priceless, demanding that Madigan post the names of everyone owning big screen plasma TV's, anyone currently receiving any type of government assistance, and the home addresses of all state employees.

How about something a little more concrete? Concrete politically?

We are proposing that at the next FOP meeting, someone make a motion to retroactively un-endorse Madigan for Attorney General. In fact, any FOP Lodge in the State who previously endorsed Madigan should pull their blessing. She is making a proposal that will directly impact the safety and well being of police officers and their families. Why should she expect any support from the law enforcement community? A public rebuke like this would send a clear message.

Within about 15 minutes after that database of names is released we'll have a mash-up with Google maps showing a street view of the locations on a blog somewhere.

This will give the "crew" members an idea of what they are up against and if there is a gun in the house before they break in. They'll know what kind of firepower and manpower to bring along.

Instead everyone gets blindsided and you have to wait to get your news in the media.

Also no law enforcement officer should be required to wear a name tag anymore due to easy access via the net of information like officers' addresses. A star or badge number is good enough. The dept knows who you are and what your number is if needed.

That would probably be a vote of no-confidence or non-support. About as effective as wishing on a star.

More likely the FOP Lodge 7 should join up with the State FOP Lodge and together petition Madigan to exclude law enforcement from her harebrained proposal.

This is Madiganistan, formerly known as Illinois. The Madigans run the state. The Illinois Attorney General's office has been transformed into a political arm of Michael J. Madigan, Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and Chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois. And father of the political operative Lisa Madigan.

If joining forces with the gun control crowd in releasing FOID records will win some votes, they go for it like a fly goes for excrement.

Hey - it's not just law enforcement. It's anyone who legally owns a gun.

Illinois is the Mecca for dumb politicians. I cannot believe some of the bad decisions that have been made by those who supposedly run this state.

If you did not vote in the last election - wake up. Your apathy led the way for Quinn to get in and raise both the state individual income tax as well as the corporate tax. That is NOT the way to entice companies to move to Illinois and create jobs.

Why would anyone be surprised by what this liberal Democrat does. She would have trouble finding the bathroom without help from Dad. Ms. Madigan remember what the Tea Party motto was: "Don' Tread on Me." We mean it this time. It is a right to own a gun. It is a right to protect oneself. It isn't a right to tread on my rights. I ask everyone last one of my fellow officers to send an email to Ms. Madigan and their respective State Legislators demanding this abuse of power be stopped immediately. The good people of Illinois have rights not just the Flint Taylors of the world.

How about if we just start by posting the home address of Lisa Madigan at 4152 N. Rockwell, Chicago, IL 60618?

Or date of birth, July 30, 1966?

Is that OK?

That info is not confidential or protected, it is available to any member of the public with an internet connection. Go to Wikipedia, search Lisa Madigan and then do a property search on the spouse's name.

Publicly available information, unlike FOID records that include every law enforcement officer in the state of Illinois.

Questions: All of our Aldermen, and other politicians, who are allowed concealed carry of handguns; do they all have FOIDs?

Did they pass a course, that is now demanded of even civilian gun owners?

Do they qualify yearly?

Who will be on the hook civilly if they shoot someone?

There are a lot of things you can do to protect your privacy and I have done them for many years.

Your Driver's License and FOID can be registered to your station.

Your vehicles can be registered to a Post Office Box in just first initial and last name only. Better there than to your station, in fact as much as possible should go to the P.O. Box, cell phone bills, memberships, magazines.

Better than paying for a "Non-published" home phone number, have it published in a phony name and remove the address.

Have your Caller ID hidden at all times on your cell phone.

Avoid Social networks like Facebook and so on.

Stay safe, and a large part of that means stay private.

OT sort of...
Believe this crap it may happen here......Sanctuary city news:

Seattle city attorney protects criminal illegals from deportation, avoiding notification to ICE by 1 day. He will now recommend that all illegals convicted of crimes resulting in 365 days incarceration will be given 364 day sentences so the feds can not deport them. He (and the City of Seattle) also feel that requiring college degrees for some jobs is racist and will work to remove that requirment in the future.

Now in Texas, (and it probably never will happen here) the state House lawmakers debate the first major immigration proposal on Wednesday that would ban "sanctuary cities" by allowing law enforcement officers to ask about a person's legal immigration status and arrest them for being in the country illegally. The sanctuary city issue is among topics declared an emergency by GOP Gov. Rick Perry, whose office says officers' hands shouldn't be tied.

Gangbangers, convicted felons, mentals, etc. dont or shouldnt have FOID cards. There should be a list, specifically and strictly for law enforcement, when responding to a call for service to a gun owners home, thats it! Is she pandering to the public for her buddy ritchie? Gun control, now foid cards, enough already! The real criminals have been her dad, the cullertons, the daleys etc. who have brought this once good place to live unto its knees. Quit trying to throw the public off the real crimes of this state. Legit gun owners/w guns are not what she should be focusing on, the FOP, NRA, should be all over this. She was elected to prosecute wrongdoers and represent the people of this state. The list Lisa madigan should be working on and releasing is the list of all of her daddy's and his buddies follies w/ attached indictments. Instead of putting out a list that would put good citizens, w/the right to bear arms in harms way. Shame on her for trying to treat the good citizens like convicted felons!

Actually, the way it has been INTERPRETED by the IL Supreme Court is that Official Duties means just that. It does not necessarilly mean your duty status. The IL Supreme court has ruled that If you are working, stop and pick up a sandwich and buy a soda, you are not performing official duties, therefore you need FOID.

If you shop while working, you need FOID.

You don't need FOID if you are at station, take out a weapon that you keep at work only (or do no other non-duty related action such as stopping for lunch), and proceed to a raid and return the weapon without doing anything else that is not directly duty related.

As soon as you do something with a weapon in your possession that is personally owned that is not DIRECTLY duty related you are required to have FOID.

Therefore there is a De Facto FOID card requirement which is why Our own General Orders were changed to require it.

Thank you.

I understand your point about having info before making contact. That all depends on where you work I guess because in parts of the city you will never see an foid card. Again I think it depends on where you work because over twenty years ago the old timers taught us that every house you enter potentially has a firearm in it some where. Also when approaching an individual on the street or in a veh. treat the situation as if a firearm is involved until you are satisfied there is not. Don't give these pols an inch when it comes to your privacy and security.

Anti-Gun Senator Shoots Intruder

State Senator R.C. Soles (D - NC) Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen andBrunswick counties.

The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.
"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone.
"I'm right in the middle of an investigation."
The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.
In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do as I say and not as I do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting.
Why hypocritical you may ask?
It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.

It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can.

Can I change the address on my FOID to 3510 S Mich.?

3/02/2011 12:54:00 AM

Technically, the Ill Sec of State allows active duty police officers to use their department address on their auto registrations to protect them from having someone run their plate and find their residence.....

3/02/2011 07:49:00 AM<<<

Better than that...

A Post Office Box

Just first initial and last name.

I think the idea is to release names only. Not addresses. From a street standpoint, wouldn't it be nice info to know a person has an FOID in their name of you are going to make contact with that person?

I am really not fully opposed to this if it just names. I get the whole idea about the burglars, I really do and it worries me but really, all the shit heads know where we live as it is.

3/02/2011 11:54:00 AM

From a street standpoint? Yeah, and the bad guy will pop you while you are checking an irrelevant list.

Now, from a street survival standpoint, if you do not act and carry yourself as knowing anyone and everyone can be armed, you are a toe-tag in waiting.

From your posts only, you seem like a genuinely nice guy, but if you want to get yourself killed on the street, go ahead. There is no one that will want to work with you and be there to get killed with you. Why? Because you don't watch the hands of your street stops and don't act as everyone is potentially armed. Why? Because you are looking to see if their name is on some "Madigan" list. Good luck.

Even the U.S. Supreme Court recently confirmed this in a recent decision.

Um, no you can't. You can register your car to HQ or your district, but not your drivers license. The department came out with a fax message a while ago clarifying that. The SOS will probably let you do it, but if you get caught by the department they'll give you some time.

The truth is, if someone wants to find you, they will.

I am not a member of law enforcement. My sons who are persuaded me it might be a good idea to have a few around the house "just in case." I have an FOID, and I have guns. Nice, fully operational weapons. The military taught me how to use guns. As far as I'm concerned, the only people who are entitled to and need to know about my gun ownership are law enforcement officials. Wait, I misspoke. The other people who are entitled to know about my gun ownership are those who (and hopefully this never happens) enter my residence with criminal intent. If that happens and I am home at the time, I will loudly and proudly disclose (as in, BANG! BANG! BANG!, etc.) my gun ownership to them. Oh, how I would love to see a libtard be confronted with a situation where a gun is needed and one is not at hand. Pretty sure you'd hear from him/her, in a frigin' second, "I'll Second that Amendment!"

GOP Launches Petition Supporting Gun Owner Privacy

Wednesday, 02 Mar 2011, 8:51 PM CST
Associated Press

"Chicago - Republicans are furious over a State Attorney General's ruling that would allow the release of information about gun owners in Illinois.

"So GOP Party Chairman Pat Brady is helping to launch a new petition drive via the website http://www.foidprivacy.com.

"It comes after Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan's public access counselor ruled that names of Firearm Owners Identification cardholders are public information..."

As I said before, Gun ownership is a privilege not a right in Illinois. Here in this state your FOID card can be suspended on mere suspicion of a crime. Thus your so-called second amendment rights....Look at Drew Peterson or Craig Stybeck. Their gun rights were revoked on just suspicion of a crime.

I'd love to be a rep;orter at these things. The ones who are there don't ask the right questions.

Excuse me, Ms. M.

If you are going to disregard privacy concerns of firearm owners and release the names and address of persons who have been granted FOID cards, then could why not release the information on those people who have been denied FOID cards and why.

Does that applicant have a...

criminal history...

drug abuse history ...

domestic abuse history...

Inquiring minds want to know.

I also want to know what famous people have a FOID card...

Does Oprah have one?

Which members of the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls have one?

Which Aldermen have one?

Inquiring minds want to know?

You are a communist. Why do you need to know the names of people who choose to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms? Do you also want the names of those who exercise their right to free speech? Let's just give you the names of those who practice religions you determine are "dangerous" while we're at it.

Why don't you read the Constitution and try to understand it and what it means to those of us who cherish it for the freedom it gives us.

There was a nit-wit caller on WLS yapping about how he has the right to know who has a gun so he can forbid his children from going to those homes. He said gun ownership is a privilege, just like driving a car. How in the hell can someone get through high school and not know the difference between a constitutional right and a privilege granted by the state? These fucking liberals really need to get their collective butts kicked.

Those that say one needs an FOID card because you are not engaged in official operations when off duty,or while shopping or while at lunch, let me ask you this. Has ANYBODY ever asked a copper whom they have stopped while off duty, if they have an FOID card? Has any officer that was sitting in a Starbucks while taking a personal or in a JEWEL food store picking up something for lunch etc., been asked by any other L/E official if they have an FOID card? In any off duty shooting, has any boss asked that Officer if he was in possession of a valid FOID card moments prior to the shooting because at that point in time he was not engaged in "official duties"? Call me crazy but I dare say no. Which tells me this is all anti-gun BS formulated by an anti-gun, liberal Democraptic politcian.

FOID cards are unconstitutional. Are you telling me it's OK to arrest a free law abiding man in this state because he possesses ammunition or a firearm and doesn't carry the card of the People's Republic of Illinois?

Arrest him and deny him his Second Amendment rights? Please. This is a gun grabber idea and a scam program that should be abolished.

When they publish your name, you will understand why we should have been fighting them tooth and nail on every issue. This has always been a first step to taking your guns. We know it and they know it.

Man you just don't get it do you. It's the Constitution stupid. I think you just outed yourself as to what political philosophy you follow (communist) when you refer to our " so-called second amendment rights". Check with other states, they don't have FOID cards. That card is something our state came up with. Just because liberal pols say that's the way it is in the People's Republic of Illinois doesn't mean the Constitution of the United States of America is null and void.

Yeah tag this as un-fucking fucking believable...

As we are about to publish the FOID card names of all the registered firearm owners in Illinois, the political apparatus stands up and says that it's the law when it comes down to identifying the half million dollars being donated by anonymous donors in a PAC organization that is backing every single one of Rahm's picks for Aldermen in the upcoming run-offs.

A half million dollars to back Rahm's pick for Alderman in the run offs.

We don't know who these people are. They could be terrorist, foreign activist, drug cartels. Who know? and that's okay. We should protect their privacy.
