Last Chance to Apply
Monday is the deadline for those interested in becoming Chicago's next Top Cop. While Philadelphia's Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey removed himself this week from the running, it's expected there will be a healthy competition of those who want the job. Some are Chicagoans, some are not. After the written applications are read, the nine-member Police Board will hold interviews for perhaps 10 candidates. The board will then present three choices to Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel for his final choice.
Included in the application -- four letters of recommendation and answers to four essay questions. Also, the Police Board is trying to predict ahead of time how the next superintendent might handle a legal crisis. Those interested must answer the question, "Have you ever invoked the 5th Amendment, and why?" Police experts are calling it the Phil Cline question.

The going salary seems to be between $330,00 and $400,000 per year. Plus car, condo, and who knows what else.

Absolute miserable watch b/c of the capt and the first day you arrive you'll be wishing you had stayed put in whatever ghetto your in now. Believe me it's better. That's how bad 023 3rd watch is.

I don't know which one is more annoying, this multiple poster or the 023 multiple poster.

Why don't they put the applicants on the lie box, just like a federal applicant? Ask questions like - Have you ever covered up the wrong doing of another exempt member? Have you ever been under the influence of illegal substances while on duty? Have you ever committed a sexual act with another department member? Have you ever jammed an innocent copper? Have you ever stolen overtime? Have you ever lied about department statistics? Have you ever cheated on a department promotional exam?
That is, if you want honor and integrity running this department...

Oh come on. Go to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds website. The condo is in his wife's name and is not and has not been owned by the City. Some idiot starts a stupid rumor and a whole pack of fools follow along.
I doubt seriously if the salary and benefits are that high. A house/condo has never been provided for anyone hired by the city. It is possible that this could be the exception if the person comes from out of town. The word in political circles has been and still is that the new mayor wants a women for superintendent. No word on race/ethnic group. I think he wants to make a splash and do a first. If the women is qualified, progressive and open to new ideas and would make a concerted effort to remove the political influence from the job, then who would care? Not I for one. If someone is worried about skeletons in someones closet that would disqualifiy a person for the job ( Kirby), the skeletons would have to be of immense proportions otherwise no one will care. One example, Hal Baskin who continuously runs for 16th ward alderman has more skeletons that I can count, to include felony arrests for fighting with the police ( he was released without charges on the orders of the DC). No one in the media is interested one bit, or the police department for that matter. A DC/Watch commander does not have the authority to release a felon without charges, only after a rejection by the ASA, and investigation by detectives, but that never stopped someone from doing it.

I'll get on the news and tell everyone that all this violence is because there's too many guns, or not enough jobs, or because it's too hot, or too cold, or because of fifty year old racial inequality, or because the schools don't get enough money, or the math book is two years old, or because kids eat too much candy, or not enough. Do you really believe that if a police officer makes a felony arrest, say for robbery, that the WC alone can say release the arrestee you do not have sufficiant cause? That has gotten a few WC in lots of hot water in the past. Felony arrests must be investigated. You sir, are the stupid one.

That is whre the clouted end up after retirement from CPD. Nolan is a deputy chief, Folliard was or still is a deputy chief, Beaver's brother who retired as a commander is still hanging on and he must be in his 70's. their merit board had retired exempts. On and on and on it goes.

Yes, a W/C has that authority, but most are afraid to use it. I believe that it was done in the case of the 2 P.O.s in 23.
