Warm Day - Open Post

Open post for a warm Sunday. We're out entertaining friends and won't be back until sunset. Or when the storms blow over the barbecue. Careful if your working overnight and into today. Skilling says stormy. We say busy as hell.

all i know is that my CTA radio does not work in about 1/2 of the subway system but my mandatory beltclip radiation detector works about 1/4 of the time. this department is a joke! make sure that you keep your gas mask in your locker... we don't want to alarm the riders. if you need them just take public transpotation back to your locker and return in a timely manner. (( LOL ))

Break-in at Lincoln Park Zoo lion house
Updated 1:56 p.m.
At least one burglar broke into the basement of the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Kovler Lion House, stole zookeepers’ walkie-talkies and left a ladder in the moat of the zoo’s tiger enclosure overnight, officials said

Too bad the lions didn't get to him/her

Well, we know who's paying for that...and who's not.

As an open post, I will take advantage of bemoaning a problem out of state retirees face when dealing with the Department.
I have a "new style" retiree ID card which shows my dates of service on the reverside side.
After a number of year now it has become worn.
I contacted the Personnel Department seeking a replacement and was told that the civilian supervisor/manager in charge had an apparant personal policy that no replacement cards will be issued thru the mail and only will be replaced with a retiree presenting themselves in person at Headquarters.
Many of us have left town for a warmer climate and live thousands of miles away.
Somehow, along with a $15 money order, a copy of our present drivers license, a copy of a pension check, and the original id card that needs replacing, being sent through the United States Postal System as registered mail is not sufficient proof of authenticity of the retired officer.
From what I understand this is a policy of a person and not Department policy.
I hope that someone in a position of power and authority recognizes the problem and institutes a system or process for the replacement of id cards by mail for retirees.

I glimpsed the start of this on the TV news just now.

It strikes me that their squeamishness about using the traditional blank starter's pistol certainly fits anti-gun Daleytown to a "T."

They use one of those little hand-held disposable air horns instead.

Now that I think about it, it probably carries farther than the "pop" of a .22 crimped blank, but still...

Is anyone from ssc going to talk about Gene Williams, a leading candidate for Superintendent? Facts...
National head of N.O.B.L.E. As Commander of Narcotics- he brought over 81 officers, 79 were African American.
Why did Phil Cline dump him to 015? because he was warned several times to bring in whites, hispanics, and asians. He refused. But what no one is saying and everyone knows who has ever had contact with him- his main objective on this job is to advance as many African American officers as he can. And he has been very successful in doing this. As Commander of 15, who did he promote? Not one non- black. Not one. Spend any time in that district and it's incomprehensible how that was possible. Once again these are facts. Trust me, a black Superintendent would be great, as a matter of fact it's probably about time. How about Al Wysinger, or Jimmy Jackson? It would be a shameif this wasnt brought up. Thanks scc.

Also, for those that voted for Sid Davis, Mike has removed him as Recording Secretary and put his own guy that lost the election in.

Why bother to have an election?

You are obviously someone that has had little participation in union affairs during your time on the job. Or little knowledge.

Sid Davis is NOT out as Recording Secretary. He still is the elected Recording Secretary.

What he no longer is is part of the full-time FOP staff.

The FOP President gets to designate to the city who is to be detailed to the FOP staff (Unit 541). It is the Prez's decision. It's called "to the victor go the spoils"

What this means is that Sid will still do recording secretary stuff, just he will do it on a part-time basis. And do it for the $700/mn stipend instead of D-8 (Captain's) pay. Plus each committee he chairs and meeting he attends, he gets additional $.

Mike Shields is entirely within his rights to put who he chooses in the office. He has political favors to re-pay.

Why the concern? So many people were unhappy with the old FOP regime that they voted them out. Now they complain about them being removed??

Mark Donahue gets a $70K/yr job as lobbyist by the nature of his being the Immediate Past President. He gets this until Mike Shields is unthroned, then it goes to Mike.

Much of what FOP does is done behind the scenes down in Springfield. Mark has over the years built up a considerable rapport so why let that die and go to waste? Now is the time we really need that.

Illinois governor made the bet, now he should pay the debt

If I didn't know better, I'd say Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is trying to get out of fulfilling the bet he lost over the Packers-Bears game.

It's baseball season now, and we're still waiting for the Democratic governor to get up here in his mortifying Packers gear and volunteer at a Wisconsin food pantry

To the post about Gorgeous Gene- he is not a supporter of blacks either! His only claim is that he's stepped on the neck of every person he's worked with or for regardless of race or gender. Oh he'll help you but only if he gets the credit. Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him! As for the other candidates- Al is the only one of integrity. Thanks for pointing this out.

I cut some shopping short and just came home today after the sky clouded from horizon to horizon between 3 and 4 PM. No big thing, got a lot done today anyway.

Sat here and watched the stuff come in on us on the weather radar, looking really bad -- and then, as it so often does, saw it split in two on our urban "heat island," half going to the north and out over the lake, and the other half going to the south.

The thing has now gone by us, recombined in the southern suburbs, and looks like it's going to deliver a real pasting to everyone but us as it heads southeast. All kinds of lightning in the mix.

We ain't getting nothing but humid; just took the winter cover off the room a/c, cleaned the filter, opened the vent, and away we go.

Gotta see the homicide totals for Sunday into Monday, though -- it's gonna be something.

Have a good time, shitcagoites. Those downstate from you are celebrating spring. We do not care what you are going through, because for years you have been shitting on us. Suffer through the warm times, with the wildings, and think, "maybe, if we hadn't tried to dump our failures on downstate, they might support us."

If you want to even things out, get rid of Daley (that means all of them, permanently), along with all of the Chicago mob. We may be willing to give you a lot of leeway if ALL of them are GONE (i.e. DEAD). Otherwise, suffer the fate that being under the worst of the worst has given you. Some of us have escaped Shitcago and Illinois.

12.22am You may be too young to remember this, but 018 caught a man humping a cow at The Farm In The Zoo back in the early 80s.

The morning radio guys had a field day with it, Johnny B wrote a song about called "Moo, Moo, I Love You"

The idiot was charged with Damage To Property and brought before Judge Hoffenburg in Br 41 on 2nd floor of 018.
City to cops: No place like home

August 31, 2008
BY FRANK MAIN AND ANNIE SWEENEY
Staff Reporters

...Bruce Rottner also has a tale of two cities, but the department never filed a residency case against him.

Rottner, the former Rogers Park District commander, was promoted this year to deputy chief of the Belmont Area.

Rottner said he and his wife gave her parents legal custody of their two daughters in 1987 so they could attend school in nearby Lincolnwood, where his wife's parents lived.

He said he continued to live in West Rogers Park. But his wife split time between the two homes and the girls came to Chicago on weekends.

Schools a factor
Rottner said he and his wife, who are Jewish, were uncomfortable with Chicago's public schools in the '80s. They tried a private, non-denominational school, but it had limited classes and activities. They ruled out Jewish schools in the city.

"As parents, education was important to us and that was the only reason we did what we had to do. It was a hardship living separately from my children," Rottner said. "Today with [Chicago Public Schools CEO] Arne Duncan, I'd feel very comfortable sending my kids or my grandkids, if I ever have any, to public school.''

The Rottners inherited the Lincolnwood home in 2003. Rottner said he continues to live in the city in an Edgewater condo. One adult daughter lives in the Lincolnwood home and his wife still splits her time, he said.

"We didn't use a phony address,'' Rottner said. "We had a legal way to set it up and do it. I always lived in the city. I never spent one night in that house."

See, it's legitimate. Just ask him.

Since you're throwing insults around, let's educate you.

It doesn't take IAD six months 'to catch you'. There are rules about residency investigations. They don't find you in violation of residency if you stay someplace for three days (although they do convert a complaint to a real investigation after three positive surveillances in the suburbs).

They watch you. They follow you. They determine where you spend the BULK of your time and where you exit wearing your uniform or work clothes.

They get your utility information, your phone info, your car registration. Any litigation? At what address? Etc, etc.

Anybody who wants to beat it can get around it. Anyone who is so arrogant they don't even bother to try to beat it, deserves what happens. Investing a small amount of effort is all it takes.

A word to the wise. Don't share your status with the neighbors (be a public relations guy with a downtown firm and never, ever take your uniform to the burbs). Don't tell girlfriends, ex-wives, soon-to-be ex-wives, drinking buddies, your business. They get mad, stupid, careless and jealous, and they drop a dime.

And, if you think you'll be slick by putting the house and car into the wife's name, prepare for your divorce. She already owns two of your most valuable assets.

Six months is the minimum for residency cases. Why six months? To prove the point. If you're there for six months, you ain't visitin'.

That last post about the iad guy busted should be a lead post maybe scc?
Then all of those he has screwed can know and get to the fop to take action.
AW formerly of 024 should be held accountable for his screwing of coppers for a long time. Even the good iad folks know he was always shady!

Just got to say, you must be the a-hole that works in confidential that posted this. Why did it take you six months to catch him. You guys couldn't do real police work if you tried, i guess that's why your in the clout heavy investigation section of iad.

Do you think this was an easy thing to do? DO you think it was fun? Do you think it was a knee jerk reaction? Perhaps the reason it was six months was because every opportunity to DISPROVE the allegation was given to the accused? Yet, it was not disproved during that time.

Now Confidential are the "A-holes"? Grow up. "Real Police Work"? Really? Are we going to go there? Sorry, there are are not separate standards for us. He wasn't tipped off. That alone should show how seriously it was taken by every person who knew about it. I wish him the best, but for him to feign innocence is silly.

"The clout section". Like you're in IAD because of your outstanding personality...please.

Yes, I do believe it was easy for you, and believe it or not some of the people (p.o.s) that work in iad applied, and were interviewed. Not like you ass kissing seargents who got there by clout and can't investigate your way out of a box.
