Weekend Heat?

  • The latest cold spell is expected to come to an abrupt end this weekend with temperatures in the 80s -- prompting the National Weather Service to warn that the sudden change could spawn tornadoes.

"Concern is growing that a widespread and potentially significant severe weather outbreak, including the potential for tornadoes, is possible somewhere in the Midwest or Great Lakes region Sunday afternoon and evening," the weather service said in a statement.

While the weather service is forecasting highs in the lower 80s Sunday, WGN-TV's Tom Skilling predicts it could top out at 88 degrees, close to the record high of 90 degrees set in 1930.
Tommy's Crime Reduction ribbon may be in serious jeopardy. Who's got the line on the over/under for maimings, woundings and wildings?

Yup, you know you're in Chicago when you can use the heating system and the a/c in the same day.

Gonna be brutal out there. Only thunderstorms can save us from a really ugly death toll this weekend.

Tornados?!!!!!!! There isnt even a basement in the new station! Where should we go if one hits? The cheap bastards(shortshanks) should have built stations with basements. Dont they know how many poor prisoners could be killed if one strikes? Oh, the loss to humanity that would be!!!

I know that you were trying to be funny, but that was way more accurate than anything the Crystal Ball Unit has come up with so far.

The new stations don't need a basement for tornado shelter. Just use the parking garage.

Harkening back to the previous SCC post "Newspaper Comments", the trib just disabled the comments from this story about a man who was shot in the neck during a drive-by on the SW side last night.

http://tinyurl.com/44lvumz

(but they neglected to permanently delete any comments already posted
http://tinyurl.com/3f28avt)

The comments were disabled after these questions were asked:

Did the man shot live on the 3800 block Pippin St?

Are the Latin gangs taking over a neighborhood that is less than a mile from Daley College, the Ford City Mall and Bogan High School?

The story was pretty skimpy on details. Is it not allowed to ask for more information?

Anybody who has a loved one wanting to join the Military or has anybody in the Military should watch the HBO Documentary Wartorn 1861-2010. Then the next time you think it is too cold or too rainy or you do not have the time to go out and vote, or you take for granted the basic freedoms that you enjoy everyday because of the men and women who have fought and who continue to fight for our freedom ... remember what you saw. Then hug that loved one and thank God you can. War Torn comes out on video 17 May 2011, you can pre order it.

I LOVE IT!

OEMC can broadcast this over the emergency speaker system that doesn't half work, using Mayor Daley's frantic Porky The Pig voice to spread panic.

You guys must be talking about sunday only & not counting the west side at all. Hey last sunday it was only about 70 & 17 were shot on Sunday. Most of them in 6.

It's hard to pick on how many get to see "Chalkie". The shooters have shitty aim & the paramedics and medical staff at the hospitals are getting better & better.(they sure get a lot of practice) But there will probably be 40 shot from Fri afternoon til Mon morning.

I going for a higher casualty rate over homicides. I predict 14 shot with 2 dead. One person stabbed. At least one person will be shot by the Police...Sting will claim self defense.

Watched Jim Ramsay tonight on Ch. 9, he says he doesn't want to scare anyone, but the stuff blowing up over Iowa right now has over 13 tornado reports already. Real extreme of cold air/warm air meeting here; he says keep your eyes on the sky, stay near weather info, and start expecting stuff maybe 6 PM, on into the evening to midnight, when it's expected to hit heavy.

The latest here --
