$400,000? Hahaha!!!!

Instead of waiting for the shoe to drop, Ramsey - by accident or by design - withdraws from the field of battle:
  • Philadelphia police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, who was a front-runner to become the next Chicago Police superintendent, is no longer a candidate — and money was a key reason.

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel, who takes office next month, has praised Ramsey, who formerly was a deputy superintendent with the Chicago Police Department and chief of the Washington, D.C., police. Ramsey had said he was interested in the Chicago job.

But a source said Ramsey was asking for a compensation package of more than $400,000 and Emanuel found that unacceptable.

J-Fled got $330,000 a year for three years and he had never run a police department, nor served in municipal law enforcement, in his life. Ramsey probably asked for pie-in-the-sky numbers (again, on his own or at Rahm's direction) to withdraw somewhat gracefully.

At least now he's just a greedy man instead of an Emanuel patsy.

$400,000 PLUS I heard the bastard also wanted a pension out of it.

HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE... knowing this clowns past practices he probably has a "squeeze" in Philly so he really decided to stay there.

Ramsey would have to suspend his CPD pension payments while serving as superintendent, so he probably asked for that amount (maybe $75,000/yr?) OVER what JPWeis was paid.

That equals about $400,000/yr.

I like Ramsey, but I just don't see any supe being worth that much money. JPWeis was being paid for doing two jobs, when he ended up only doing one of them, so even $300,000/yr is too high for a superintendent imho.

Well, he has now. He ran the CPD. Ran it pretty much into the ground.

Don't forget to factor in our most recent "bad apples" who've done us this latest dishonor of providing a few more proverbial nails to drive into the CPD coffin. For some reason, these assholes always seem to have the uncanny ability of atrocious timing when it comes to breaking scandals which further destroy our morale, not to mention tarnish public perception of what used to be the finest department in the country.

Future editions of Webster's Dictionary will define "Rogue Officer" by: "See CPD Scandal of 2011". Ramsey nixed any aspirations (whether half-assed or otherwise) of applying for Supernintendo when he realized that he'd inherit what is surely going to be a scandal of historic proportions. If he was on the fence for any reason, the boys in 023 made his decision a whole lot easier.

Self preservation in this current atmosphere isn't just for the working grunts.

Good for him I guess. $400,000 is a hell of a lot of money. It is nice that he has the option to bow out gracefully.

However I might suggest, as a non-cop, that Mayor Rahm Emanuel look into the department. I am sure there are some qualified people in the department who have no allegiance to any alderman or other political entities. I think that might be the best way to clean up the tarnished image of the police department, especially in light of the recent scandal involving a few officers.

Ramsey wanted an amount closing in on 400K to also pay back into his Chicago pension for the years of his absence.
I'm sure he also threw in the shot that they paid JFled 330K and he wasn't even (close to being) the police so based on that, he deserves more.
Finally, while he knew Rahm would never go for it, it also got him a 30K raise in Philly for sticking around.
Nice move either way on his part.

Ramsey was making about 195k and almost 100k with Chicago pension. So about 300 a yr. If he left and came back, the pension income stops. He would be taking a pay cut unless Rahm would compensate and pay Rsmsey 300 plus to relocate. Ramsey is smart to ask for 400 (which is reasonable after what Weis was getting) and maybe agree to meet Rahm in the middle at 350 that's if Rahm would pay that much. But none of us would give up 300 and take a pay cut to run this dept. In the end he got 225 from Philly plus he keeps his Chicago Pension. Not too bad if you think about it. Smart play

We dodged a bullet on this one – RAMSEY LOOKS TOO OLD AND TIRED.
Rahm – do your homework and find a qualified candidate within CPD. It shouldn’t be that hard if your goal is clear: find a competent administrator with ethics, integrity and leadership skills. The hardest part is sifting out all of the people who look good on paper or who talk a good game (majority of current exempts, but not all). You will need people within CPD who can give you a scorecard on all of the players. If you lose focus and start thinking about any other factors (politics/race/ or a lapdog yes man ala Weiss)) it gets way too complicated. Yes, I know, I ran a small unit and race is sometimes a factor –but it should not be the main factor in this instance.
This could well be your most important appointment. So do yourself, CPD, and the city a favor. Put in the time and effort and give CPD a quality Superintendant.

OFF TOPIC: I just want to let everyone know that we just concluded a major federal civil rights case at the federal building where my husband was wrongfully accused of beating up an arrestee. The case was very complicated, and the offender wanted a lot of money. It was a very stressful experience; but, in the end, we won, and the offender and his greedy attorney went home with nothing. NOTHING.

The corporation counsil team did a phenominal job defending my husband, and they did a wonderful job discrediting the offender's many lies- lies on top of lies. The corporation counsil team was excellent in every way. They truly did a great job.

As stressful as the whole experience was, it was great to see the City fight this case, as opposed to just giving them a settlement, which only rewards future bad behavior and the infinite greed of their attorneys. GOD bless our CPD, and our City.

Signed,

"...we canceled all our newspaper subscriptions and only read them free online. These people can't go out of business fast enough to suit us."

They are driving themselves over the edge; too many clever twentysomething "website developers." Candy-apple-red metalflake paint job and gold rims, but no engine.

Pioneer Press -- now owned by the Sun-Times -- recently killed the Edison Park/Norwood Park local paper I used to buy every week. Now, on their second revamp of the classified ads software, it's still so cumbersome to navigate that I've given up on trying to use it. Who has time to click on every individual ad, and then "click here for more info" -- like a seller's address? It should take minutes -- I don't have hours.

I just tried to tell them this, but the rest of the web site is just as dysfunctional; "500 Internal Server Error, cannot process your request" repeatedly. More time wasted.

The Chicago Tribune drove itself from 175 paid ads per week in one category down to almost nothing; I see Pioneer going down the same road.

All this clicky-zoomy-watch-the-video web s__t -- how exciting and trendy when it simply doesn't work.

Oh -- don't worry about all this being "outsourced to India." Only about three out of 100 of their "tech graduates" are actually fit to be hired for even "customer service."

im sure you all know by now but finnegan, herrerra, delbosque and e olson were all charged with civil rights violations by the feds. But wouldnt you know it.... all charges have been dropped in the home invasion/armed robbery charges in state court. Whats interesting is that the case fell apart so much that the only thing to charge them with and fall back on is the civil rights charge. Im predicting finnegan will plea to 7 years, hererra plea to 3 years at most or possibly home confinement for 18 months with e/o and delbosque who were charged with misdemenors will get 12mths probation. they went from looking at 40 years in prison for the 15 different class X felonies in state court to a Catch all civil rights charge in federal court... I dont forsee this going much further because when the feds indict they sweep down at once to make the biggest splash. Im willing to bet J blake, suchocki and the rest of the crew will be safe... These guys said they intend to plea guilty and if they dont plea they are the biggest idiots in the world. From what I heard from a buddy(CC ASA) The case of the home invasions/robberies only fell apart within the past 9 months so it was immediatly passed to the feds for the civil rights charges. They will all get something but not much.

ummmmm thats it? The feds got four civil rights violations out of this whole sos thing??? Four? The feds dont indict in waves or gradually indict. The feds get all of the ducks in a row and indict all at once and this is what they got? Two felony indictments that included the one snitch who gave the whole thing up and finnegan? Then two misdemenors for guys who are not even with the department anymore... wow, well finnegan you dodged a bullet here. Civil rights violation is pretty much the last ditch effort by the feds to get you. Clearly they didnt get indicted for all of the other stuff like home invasion kidnapping etc and just charged them with civil rights. The MAXIMUM that these guys can get is 10 years for the violations they are charged with...10 years? wow, did you ever get lucky jerry. I hear they are all taking plea deals(smart) and I also hear all state charges were dropped because the criminal case completly fell apart a while ago.. Any bets on the pleas they will take?? Hererra was the informant so Im gonna go with 2 1/2 years and jerry pleading out to 8 years and not getting the maximum 10 years. the two getting the misdemenors I will say 6 months each or maybe even federal probation. I guess everyone else can breath a little easier... Trust me, its over... the feds dont indict until everyone is ready to be brought in.. what a joke even though the entire state case crashed and burned these guys get charged... if hererra didnt talk it would be a different story today and the headline would read... "Today all charges were dropped against former members of the CPD Elite sos unit." But no, little keith had to run his mouth.

Pat Camden was at HQ yesterday to see Supt. Hillard. I hope he's coming back to run News Affairs. The Lt. in that unit is learning that being "cute" got her there, but you have to be a good administrator to run the place, and in that battle she is unarmed.

Off topic I know, but the Sun Times says that Finnigan, Herrerra, Olsen and DelBosque plan on pleading guilty to Federal charges. Olsen and DelBosque to misdemeanors, and Finnigan and Herrera allegedly will plead to one count of felony Civil Rights conspiracy and filing a false income tax return. Seems awful light for all of the things that they were alleged to have on him. Either most of the case fell apart, or maybe Jerry is talking. If so, certain bosses both still working and retired might have something to worry about? Guess we will see.

CloutFest -- US Steel South Works Site To Become New City Concert Venue

First the fireworks show broken into three separate "keep 'em where they are" shows -- north, central, south -- and now this.

A frantic last-ditch effort to save the Loop from the growing "flash mobs" and "wilding" by shunting the crazies off into the wasteland while still making the cash register ring?

We just heard this reported on Channel 9 news, and a music web site backs it up --

"The Dave Matthews Band Caravan will raise its tent at the mouth of Lake Calumet, on the former grounds of U.S. Steel's South Works mill. It's where 87th hits lakefront. The concert...runs July 8–10...

"It initially seemed as if Matthews would pick nontraditional venues to avoid the Ticketmaster/LiveNation machine. However, at a press conference this morning on the South Side site of the festival, representative of LiveNation were on hand to announce the big gig, alongside strange bedfellows Jam Productions and others (Chicago Lakeside Development, Starr Hill Presents and Chicago Aldermen Sandi Jackson, 7th Ward, and John Pope, 10th Ward).

"The event site is being dubbed Lakeside. And it could change the face of Chicago's growing summer festival season.

"DMB will headline all three nights of the fest. The rest of the bill is impressive: David Gray, Ray LaMontagne, Kid Cudi, O.A.R., The Flaming Lips, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Amos Lee, Emmylou Harris, Ben Folds, G. Love & Special Sauce, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Gomez, Drive-By Truckers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, the Jayhawks, Soja, Soulive, the Wailers, Blind Pilot, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, TR3, Vieux Farka Toure, Alberta Cross, Mariachi El Bronx, Bobby Long, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Jeff Coffin's Mu'tet and Gary Clark Jr.

"That looks like stiff competition for Lollapalooza, which has yet to announce any acts."

I'd take a look at Chief Ed Flynn in Milwaukee. He might be a breath of fresh air. I know he did have an extra-marital affair in the news a couple of years ago, but survived it and learned from it which could make him an asset in dealing with the media circus that is laying in the weeds waiting for news of the two Town Hall Charlie Harpers.

Whether he would have been good or bad is one question, but as to salary, why not shoot for the moon? Rahm thought that that was too much to pay, but why is Ramsey getting beat up for asking? The department is a mess, new scandal gets more interesting every day, morale sucks, the equipment and infrastructure are a mess, we are shorthanded and directionless. If I were him looking at what he's walking into, I'd ask for a ton of dough too. Rahm says yes? He comes for the big dough. Rahm says no? Ramsey stays where he is at, doesn't have to move and doesn't get involved in this mess. I don't blame him at all for taking a shot.

But now what?

Signed,

A Cop's Wife

The only problem here for Rahm is that the firefighters union has langage in their contract which states how many houses, companies, & men are to be in service everyday. And it is locked in until 2 yrs AFTER their contract expires. Which allows them to negoiate a new contract for 2 yrs without having to worry about those issues. I was told that the city can't even bring the issues up in nogoiations until then.

My hunch is that this guy used this whole courting process to his advantage, as a negotiating tactic for a new contract.

I'll bet you that before he publicly turned down the CPD job and it came to light that he was asking for $400,000, he told the powers that be in Philly that he had a solid job offer and suggested a raise that was less than his asking price in Chicago, but more than what he was currently making in Philadelphia.

He probably knew all along that he had no intention or desire to return to Chicago, but realized he had some leverage with the interest Emanuel was purportedly showing in him.

You or any other dues paying member of the FOP can stop by the hall Monday through Friday to ask if the dinner was paid with FOP funds. The answer is no. Grow up and try to be a professional. OT-

SCC mentioned in another thread --

"India projects an image of a nation churning out hundreds of thousands of students every year who are well educated, a looming threat to the better-paid middle-class workers of the West. Their abilities in math have been cited by President Barack Obama as a reason why the U.S. is facing competitive challenges."

Wrong.

4/07/2011 01:39:00 PM

You my friend are 100% correct when it comes to the quality of Indian graduates. I should know because I am an Indian and have relatives in India.

The good news for us is that out of 100 Indian engineers, nurses, accountants, etc.... Only about 1% to 5% are capable of doing the same job as their Western counterparts.

Now comes the bad news for us. Only recently now their education system is being revamped. Rote learning is out and now there are some colleges and universities in India that are employing Western style educational pedagogy.

I can honestly see a future that is not too distant in where white collar workers will have to compete with their counterparts from many parts of the world.

I would like to see someone from within promoted. If they were able to withstand the Jodi Weis nightmare and take the huge pay cut, plus all the bullshit with no personnel and no resources, I say go at it.

If you are retired, took a leave of absence or resigned, stay where you are! Mayor Elect, it will hurt morale even more if you go outside when we have good bosses right here. I can go on and bash bosses left and right, but what I will say is select someone that has very little baggage. We can't live through another scandal. It is time for us to move on.

People like ASA Cuello who should have been placed on leave due to her legal woes with a drug dealer and gun runner was bad enough. Dealing with people like Debra Kirby who has never been a District Commander, knows nothing about being the real police and once she was made Deputy Superintendent, she went back and hit everyone hard that she could who pissed her off at one time or another. I think we are all forgetting that both of these women were Jfled's puppets for all three years. They were right by his side through all of the horrible things they did. They should have gotten rid of those two also when MM and BR got the boot!

How long will the Feds stay on the payroll? Each day they stay, they get closer to digging into our pension. They are also costing the city over half of a million dollars each year. Let one of our own do those jobs. The city will also save major bucks with salaries.

I think it is a given that people like Ernie Brown, Constantine Andrews, Michal Shields who is now screwing up CPS, Dana Alexander and people like Roussell (another Jodi puppet) would do with scandal and stupidity. I just really cannot believe that Michael Shields was even considered. He has more sex beefs and sex issues, let alone is bi-polar and always off of his meds and finally, EVERY EXEMPT would retire if even came back to this job as an Exempt, let alone being Superintendent!
