Homicides Up, then Down

  • Homicides dipped slightly in Chicago in March after having increased the previous month by 18 percent, according to statistics released today.

While homicides dropped across the city by 1.4 percent, 10 police districts saw a double-digit drop in homicides, the department said.
Which means that 15 districts saw an increase? Or is the media not getting the full set of numbers to compare everything?
  • Total crime dropped by 8.1 percent across the city -- the 27th consecutive month there has been a decrease in violent and property crimes, police said.

While property crimes dropped by 7.5 percent, motor vehicle thefts increased by 21.3 percent compared to last year, police said.
After two-and-a-half years of dropping, crime should be nonexistent. But auto theft went up, not just by double digits, but BIG double digits. Since we don't have an auto theft division anymore, that would be something that Rahm wants his people to look at.

Hillard is spinning this for the new administration already:
  • Interim Chicago Police Supt. Terry Hillard said the decrease shows the importance of patrols in fighting crime. Hillard noted that more than 70 officers were recently placed back on patrol.
Yeah, those 70 cops hit the street what? Eight days ago? Big impact we're sure.

But of course crime is down - the city's population dropped over 200,000. The number of police is at an all time low. Response times are increasing and we don't know about everyone else, but we haven't noticed any slacking of the backlogs.

If the citizens get sick of waiting for the police to show up and/or they get sick of sitting on hold for 3-1-1 and hang up, then they aren't reporting crime. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, it just means it isn't tracked.

I support you all and this is not your fault but our city and the people who run these departments.

After getting shot at 2x on the orange line around the same rime/stop, calling 911 and filing a detailed report on clear path. No response from the department.

Tonight when I got home once again there is blood. Bloody handprint on the wall and a trail of blood leading to the same people. Called the police and waited.

Nobody at the top gives a dam unless you have something to offer them. The shit rolls from the top all the way to the bottom.

J-fled had it all backwards telling the boys in the hood that he'll tow their cars.

See the stats?

They show that all these punks really want is a car to drive and when you take it away they start shooting and beating on people.

Hey, figures don't lie. Auto theft up and violent crime goes down

I suggest that we set up free motor pools in the high crime districts so people will have cars to drive and see what happens.

We could do like Ohpra at the next park district get together.

"You get a car and you get a car and you get a car..."

More carrot and less stick ya know what I sayin'? Reach out to the community with a set of car keys.. That's all..

Later Brah.

OT - Here's a crime that's growing by leaps and bounds... WILDING!

Gang Beats, Robs Man On Near North Side

The robbery took place about 8 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Wabash Street and Chicago Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

The group approached the victim and tried to take his cellphone. When he refused to give it up and began to struggle with the men, they beat him, Perez said.

The man suffered lacerations to his face, arms and body. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition has been stabilized, said Perez.

Hey, why not handle it like some cities try to handle their homeless problem and give them one way airline tickets to some far away state?

I have two words for you: per capita!

Check the crime rate per resident and find the true crime rate. We lost 200,000 residents. Doubt crime is dropping using that method.

OT: What's up with the radios? The last couple of days on zone 10 the transmissions sound like shit. Lots off feedback and officers' getting cut off. Does this have anything with switching to the narrow band? And is this happening on other zones? When the shit hits the fan you won't be able to know where the officer needs his help.

the police department doesn't want real police roaming the street--- the police department wants revenue generators, " one armed bandits " hammering the citizens with tickets and anovs and tows and anything else that will make them a buck--- the police department doesn't make a whole lot of money when you lock someone up--- working coppers also rack up a lot of overtime on late pinches and going to court, plus payouts on lawsuits---- they took away the mag lights, seriously restricted the vehicle pursuit policy, started the trr program, and mess with guys who are always making the late pinch--- the reason was to discourage real police work and get people to just go with the flow and generate revenue--- I try to not get down on working coppers but the deck is definitely stacked against you--- when you are standing in front of that police board fighting for your job all the honorables, commendations, and part one pinches won't mean a fucking thing, you will be standing there all by yourself wondering what you are going to do if the job is gone....

I'm just curious if you compare crime statistics to knew population statistics, has crime really gone down or has it stayed even? I could probably answer my own question.

10 years ago Englewoods population was 20% larger. So we take the crime rate 10 years ago and compare it to the population 10 years ago I wonder if the crime rate would be the same as it is today. I'm guessing yes.

You know, given the relatively small number of people who are really killing each other (which is why "predictive analysis" fooled people), monthly stats are useless. The sample size is too small, and the circumstances of murder don't necessarily repeat by month.

In other words, February 1929 had at least seven murders (Valentine's Day massacre). If February 1930 only had two does it mean anything? Not really . . .

The ONLY reason that homicides was down was we went 2 days with NO SHOOTING do to the blizzard. Then that was followed by more snow a few days later & then real cold weather. So there was roughly 1 week of very little action due to "Tom Skilling" slowing down the process. But don't worry last Sunday saw a HUGE spike in shootings with 17 in a single 24 hr period. And 6 was jumping big time on Sunday durring the nice temps.

Here's another one from today...

Man stabbed on Near North Side street

A man was stabbed and seriously injured on a Near North Side street this afternoon, authorities and a witness said.

Chicago Fire Department emergency crews were called to the intersection of Wabash and Chicago avenues just before 5 p.m. to treat a person stabbed, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

One woman who said she saw the stabbing said a group of men jumped on another man a little before 5 p.m., and at least one of them stabbed him.

We can just as easily proclaim that crime is down due to shortshank's Chicago handgun ban being overturned by the supreme court right?

Yeah.. I think so!

Now lets get concealed carry passed and watch it drop further.

Concealed carry is currently up for vote downstate. Start taking names, calling, and vote the people out that vote against it.

This is Mayor Daley's legacy of a "world-class city" that was going to have a handle on the "terrorist threat" and run an Olympics.

Pfft.

AAAhahaha.

Baby steps first...
